Our Church wardens are: Craig Orr, Brian Pratt and Andrea North Churchwardens are parish lay officials in the Church of England. Holders of these positions are leading members of the parish board, the Parochial Church Council (PCC). It is usually a voluntary position for which the rights and responsibilities are laid down by Church Law. The office of Churchwarden is one of the earliest forms of recognised lay ministry. As far back as the 13th century Churchwardens were custodians of the fabric and

2 furniture of the Church. Even today, they are the legal guardians of the church s moveable furniture, plates and ornaments of which they are required to keep an accurate and up-to-date inventory. Thank you to our Church Wardens! We appreciate you! Portobello Community Forum Food Hampers 2018 Please support the PCF with St Helen s, St Paul s and Sandal Methodist Church providing Christmas hampers for local families in need. Each hamper will provide 2 meals and chocolates for a family in real need. The cost of the hamper is 35, however all donations welcome. Please make cheques payable to Portobello Community Forum. If you could help by delivering/distributing hampers on Friday 21st December it will also be greatly appreciated. **Please contact Pam Payling Tel **

3 Hi Everyone. Sarah is going to be preparing all the hampers to be delivered to our lovely clients over the Pre- Christmas period. It would be a great help if as many volunteers as possible could come to St. Helen's Church on Thursday 6 December, any time between 11 am and 5 pm, to help pack and decorate the hampers. Even if you can only spare an hour, that would be much appreciated. If you can let Sarah know if you will be available, please call or text her on Thank you so much for all your support. God bless. Sheila Wakefield Soroptimists Over the past few months we have been working closely with Dreamtime Creative on a project to raise awareness of the Forgotten Women of Wakefield, and have now sponsored a Blue Plaque for Florence Beaumont. She was born in Wakefield and an enthusiastic suffragette. The plaque will be unveiled in March on International Womens Day. Her unmarked grave is in St John's churchyard, alongside that of Louisa Fennell, another 'forgotten' Wakefield woman. Several of our members spent a morning cleaning Louisa's grave stone and planting bulbs around it. We have recently become involved with the Red Box project to supply students with sanitary products - it appears that many girls cannot always afford to buy them and then cannot attend school. Wakefield Soroptimists have sent many packs of reuseable sanitary wear to Africa so it seemed fitting that we should continue this project more locally.

4 CAP in Wakefield has recently asked for donations for their Christmas hamper appeal and we will be supporting them this year. Our next meeting is on Thursday 22nd November at St Paul's in Walton, when we are having a social evening to support an International project in Kenya. There will be a quiz, plants for sale and food! Everyone welcome, but some ideas of numbers would be welcome. Please contact me for further information. Linda Phillips
