1 The Bard September, 2016 Tim Casey, Editor From the President I want to send my deepest condolences to our many Brothers and Sisters in Blue who have made the ultimate sacrifice. My heart also goes out to the many wounded Officers and their Department and personal family members. We must be strong, unite and persevere. We must be dedicated to our mission and the constant challenges that we face, in keeping our communities, partners and families and ourselves safe. We must be vigilant now, more than ever. As you know there have been several recent death threats towards Law Enforcement from ISIS, gang members and local hate groups. These threats have been corroborated by the FBI and Department of Criminal Intelligence. Think about the simple things to keep yourself safe, such as police stickers on your personal vehicles or wearing a police t-shirt without a gun. Have a plan and discuss the issues with your family. They are scared too! There are too many people pitting us against each other. We must rise above and be an example for the greater good. Be safe, train hard and #1, return home safely after your shift. Blessed are the Peacemakers! May Angels fly with you wherever you roam, and guide you back safely to family and home! So, I am sure the #1 question on your mind is when is the party?? Most of you do not know that I have been battling some health issues. I have won my battle twice with ovarian cancer but have had some recent repercussions from it, although my most updated news is promising. I have also been helping my mother with her battle with cancer, COPD and heart failure. She has been hospitalized multiple times and is going through treatment which requires a lot of care, so Madison has become my second home. The dates that I could find care for my Mother, did not work with The Bard, September, 2016 Page 1
2 the venue. So, I am seeking other means or locations for a party. If anyone wants to step up, please let know. I do feel bad but my Mother is first at this point. Thank you for understanding. Social Media: For those with Facebook accounts, please like us on Facebook at Emerald Society of Wisconsin. Irish fest is upon us! With that said volunteers are needed! A meeting will be held August 14th at Dugout 54. If you cannot make the meeting but wish to volunteer, please contact Julie Smith. Next meetings: Our next meeting is September 12 at 7PM at Dugout 54 located at 5328 Blue Mound Road. The Board Members will meet at 6PM. We will have a lot of new members hopefully attending. Please make them feel welcome! Slainte, CarolAnn A WEE BIT O IRISH HUMOR One night, Mrs. McMillen answers the door to see her husband s best friend, Paddy, standing on the doorstep. "Hello Paddy, but where is my husband? He went with you to the beer factory". Paddy shook his head. "Ah Mrs. McMillen, there was a terrible accident at the beer factory, your husband fell into a vat of Guinness stout and drowned". Mrs. McMillen starts crying. "Oh don't tell me that, did he at least go quickly?" Paddy shakes his head. "Not really - he got out 3 times to pee!" Gallagher is in Boston on a busy street crossing and he is waiting patiently, as he watches the traffic cop. The cop stops the flow of traffic and shouts, 'Okay pedestrians'. Then he allows the traffic to pass. He did this several times and Gallagher is still standing on the sidewalk. After the cop has shouted 'Pedestrians' for the tenth time, Gallagher approaches him and says, 'Is it not about time ye let the Catholics across?' The Bard, September, 2016 Page 2
3 Kieran O'Connor always slept with his gun under his pillow. Hearing a noise at the foot of the bed, he shot off his big toe. 'Thank the Lord I wasn't sleeping at the other end of the bed,' Kieran said to his friends in Donegal's pub. 'I would have blown my head off.' Late one night, a burglar broke into a house that he thought was empty. He stealthily crept through the house and stopped dead in his tracks when he heard a loud voice clearly saying, 'Jesus is watching you!' Silence returned to the house, so the burglar crept forward again. 'Jesus is watching you', the voice rang out again. The thief stopped dead again. He was frightened out of his wits. Frantically, he looked all around. In a dark corner, he spotted a birdcage and in the cage was a parrot. He asked the parrot, 'Was that you who said Jesus is watching me?' 'Yes', said the parrot. The burglar breathed a heavy sigh of relief and asked the parrot: 'What's your name?' 'Ronald', said the bird. 'That's a stupid name for a parrot, 'sneered the burglar.' What idiot named you Ronald?' The parrot said, 'The same idiot who named the Rottweiler Jesus.' Father Casey gets pulled over for speeding. The police officer sees an empty wine bottle in his car and smells alcohol on his breath. "Father, have you been drinking?" asks the officer. "Only water, my son." replies the priest. "Why, then, do I smell wine?" questions the officer. The priest, looking at the wine bottle, replies, "Oh my Lord, He's gone and done it again!" Padraig, a veteran officer with 18 years is running radar on a street of a rural town. Along comes a young driver in a new sports car doing 48 mph in a 30 mph zone. The officer stops the young man and explains the violation. The driver becomes belligerent, telling the officer his badge didn t mean a thing. The driver tells the officer to write the ticket because his father knows people that will make the ticket "go away". While the officer completes the ticket the young driver continues his barrage of insults. Without flinching the officer completes the ticket and hands the young driver his copies. The Bard, September, 2016 Page 3
4 The driver looks at his copies and becomes very agitated and says "What the do you think you are doing!?! I thought you said I was doing 48 in a 30. You wrote 88 in a 30?" Without hesitating, Padraig said "48, 88, what s the difference. Your dad is going to make it go away anyway." The Bard, September, 2016 Page 4
