6 Magda A different ending (from line 160 on): Scratch began to cry: "Why did we do this? It was wrong, wrong. I'll go to the police!" - "No Scratch, wait a minute," I said, "what if the police don't believe us? What if we have to go to prison? That would be terrible!" He looked me into my eyes and nodded, slowly but he did. I thought it was right, but then suddenly I was shocked. I killed a man. That couldn't be right! I recognized that Scratch had some kind of craziness in his eyes. I ignored it and said, "Ok, you were right. We are supposed to go to the police, so let's go!" Scratch didn't move, he just looked at me, with his starring eyes. Suddenly his fist flow into my face, now I was really shocked. Automatically, I punched my fist into his stomach. A fight began and in the end Scratch lay below myself and I gave him the final beat. He was dead. His body was lifeless. I ran away as fast as I could. Madeline - What would you do if you were Alex? First of all, I would like to say that I don't agree to hop a train, because it's illegal and too dangerous and normally I try to avoid trouble like this. Otherwise, it's difficult to say what I would do if I saw a half-dead man who was lying on the tracks. On the one hand, I would call the police and the ambulance because I would like to help the security guard and maybe there was a little chance that he survived. On the other hand, I would panic because I was the one who had caused the accident. So I would receve a punishment and in the worst case this would have some bad aftermaths for my future. But all in all I would call the police because I wouldn't want to live with feelings of guilt for the rest of my life. Florian A different ending... Hey, Scratch said to me. Wanna hop a train? Why should I hop a train?, I said. Because it is cool and you are new here and new skaters at Paranoid Park have to go for a dare, said Scratch. And what happens if I don't do it? If you don't do it you have to leave Paranoid Park! In this moment Scratch's friends formed a circle around me. I was nervous but stayed cool and said: Ok let me go now I don't want to hop a train! But if you go now you will never come back again, you understand? I said nothing and walked away. At home, I called Jared and told him everything about my meeting with Scratch and we decided never to go to Paranoid Park again. Fabian A different ending... I couldn't let that happen. Without thinking I ran towards the security guard and rammed the front of my board into his ribs. But it was too late. Scratch didn't breath any longer. Now I started panicking. I ran away to search somebody for help. The security guard followed me. But it was night. There wasn't anybody around. But suddenly I saw a man and I ran towards him. Then I realized that it was Jared. I shouted his name. He recognized immediately that I needed help. So he started to attack the security guard but he had his stick and so he had an advantage. During the fight I ran to a telephone set to call the police and explained what happened. The police arrived very fast and put the security guard to jail. Now I am living in a diffrent city in order to start a new life but I will never forget Paranoid Park. Tabea - Who would you be if you were Alex? If I were Alex, I would pretty much do the same things but before telling anyone about what happened, I'd try to find Scratch and ask him what to do, since I'd be kind of afraid of him, he'd probably get really mad at me for telling somebody about it. If he didn't mind telling the police, we'd most likely do that, or maybe I'd wait for the police to find me, because they'd find hints which lead to Scratch or me anyway, so even if I tried to hide

7 everything, it wouldn't work out. But the best idea, at least in my opinion, is to tell the police before Scratch does, so there's this little chance that they'll think I'm the good guy, maybe the hopeless coward, who doesn't even know how to handle it all and Scratch will get all the punishment. Sebastian If I were Alex... If I were in Alex situation I would go to the police and explain to them that it was an accident and that it wasn't my fault. My only criminal action was to jump on the train and that I had just defended myself. I think if the security guard hadn't started to hit Alex the story would have taken a different ending. So the security guard was the criminal. Can If I were Alex... If I were in the situation Alex was in, I would probably call the police and wait for them. As soon as they arrived I would tell them the truth about what had happened. I would tell them that it was a horrible accident and that I am really sorry for it. Maybe they wouldn t believe me but I would feel a lot better saying the truth than telling a lie. If I ran away I wouldn t be able to sleep with a clear conscience. I mean, I would have killed a security guard! That s not the same as stealing a pack of chewing gum at a kiosk. That s pretty serious. Maybe I would have been sent to prison. Perhaps my parents would have to pay a lot of money or I would have to go to an orphanage. Maybe then they wouldn t be too angry because I told the truth and they would allow me to go home and everything would be all right. Of course, I know that there would be huge consequences for me. Nevertheless I would call them and take responsibility for my actions. Karlotta - If I were Alex... If I were Alex, I would report to the police. I could never live with the feeling of having killed someone. I would talk to my family or my friends and ask them to support me. I would also try to find Scratch and to persuade him to report to the police. Then I would got to them and try to explain that it was an accident and not my intention to kill the security guard. I would hope that it would be seen at self-defence and otherwise I would also accept a punishment. I would just do everything to live without the feeling of having killed a man. Tom A different plot... The security guard spotted us immediately. He was big, not fat exactly, but he was kind of waddled in his uniform. Scratch climbed farther up the metal ladder. When the security guard reached us, I thought he would yell at us or tell us to get down. I figured we'd hop off and walk away, but Scratch had other plans, he stayed on the train while I hopped off, and tried to escape. The security guard followed Scratch and the train and I didn't know what to do. Suddenly a big bang could be heard and I just looked at the train and saw Scratch's body falling down hard. I thought he was dead but I couldn't prove it. The security guard looked at him when he came near, and Scratch tried to move slowly, but the security guard just took his nightstick and hit Scratch's head twice. I was frightened of the things I saw and just ran away. After a few days some police-officers came into our school in quest of the second train-surfer which was seen with Scratch at Paranoid Park. I was afraid of this and tried to remain cool, when someone asked the police-officer where Scratch was. The Police-officers sayd loudly: "He received the right punishment, for what the thought he had done. And when the Security guard wanted to stop him he fell down and died immediately, so we couldn't do anything for him." This sentence made me angry, and I gathered all my courage and screamed:"the security guard killed Scratch, I saw it with my own eyes, you lousy liar!" The policeman answered: OK, we'll take you with us. You know that it is illegal to stay at Paranoid Park. Svenja A different ending... At the parking lot I saw my mum s car and ran to it. My mum looked at me and asked me what had happened, but I couldn't speak. She said that I should climb into the car and when we were at home, I would tell her about

8 it. Slowly I opened the door oft he car and went inside of it and I began to cry. When we were at home my mum poured an apple tea an wanted to know what had happened. I thought that I could trust her, so I told her everything. Then she said: My dear, after the tea we will go to the police and tell them everything, All right? Yes, mum. And I ll never go again to Paranoid Park!, I said. Stefan A different ending... from line 175 on: Suddenly another police car arrived and I thought: What should I do? Should I run away. No I must tell them what happened and that it was an accident! Two huge and tall police officers came towards me. At that moment I felt so nervous. One officer asked me, where the police officer was who had been in that car. I thought about really telling him the truth and that it was not my fault. Ehhm, it was an accident I said. What exactly was an accident? asked another police officer. I began to stutter. Then I told them the whole story about the accident. One huge officer told the other one that he should look for the dead person. And he also phoned the police station. Then he said to me: And you have to go with me to the police station and I will call your parents! I hoped that it was right, what I did. I climbed into the car, then we drove away..
