For we are God s servants, working together; you are God s field, God s building. According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building on it. Each builder must choose with care how to build on it. Dear Siblings in Christ, (1 Corinthians 3:8-10) In the Autumn of 1917 our beautiful building was dedicated. None Pastor s Perspective of the folks who did the planning, the fundraising, the actual construction, or the commissioning to ministry of our sanctuary are alive today. Yet through you, the dreams of our predecessors who brought Trinity United Methodist Church into existence are alive and well. You, the current generation of the Body of Christ, who worship in this building are carrying on the tradition of loving God and neighbor. We worship, learn, serve in the community and welcome the community into our sacred space as God has asked us to do. It is al- Page 1

2 so our responsibility to care for this awesome building! For many months we have been whispering about raising funds to secure, restore and renovate our cherished building. NOW is the time to begin speaking out loud! On Sunday, July 23rd we will launch the Building Beloved Community capital funds campaign to cover a total project cost of $483,900. The full scope of work to be done includes a brand new roof for the sanctuary, more than doubling the current number of bathrooms, adding 2 showers, and expanding the upstairs kitchen facilities. The trustees have already been working with Myers Anderson Architecture to make sure that each step we take honors the historic nature of our building while making us ready for the next 100 years. We will be able to secure at least $161,000 from Partners for Sacred Places and generous donors have already given over $75,000 towards this project. You can help by giving money (I bet you never saw that coming!) If you write a check that you would like to go to Trinity restoration, be sure to put that on the memo line. However, your capital fund campaign steering committee is not expecting to raise ALL of this money from current members within Page 2 the church, so equally important is for you to keep giving to support the current church budget. We also need you to help us contact folks who have moved away from regular attendance at Trinity. These may be family members or even friends whom you know still love this building. There will be building plans displayed in the parlor that outline the work to be done. You will get regular updates about fundraising and hints about how you can help. And of course you can ask Nancy Stewart (our trustee chair) Mike Bean (our campaign chair) or me about any questions or concerns you might have. Let me leave you with one more scripture: O Lord our God, all this abundance that we have provided for building you a house for your holy name comes from your hand and is all your own. Blessings, Reverend Ruth (1 Chronicles 29:16 NRSV) Wow! We are on a mission from God. So very excited to share the following: Capital Funds Campaign Building Preservation - Board of Trustees The Sacred Places (Fundraising) Feasibility study determined that we have the capacity to raise money from the congregation and out in the community. On July 23 we will kick off the Capital Funds campaign to raise the remaining $247,600 needed to reach our goal of $483,900. To date we already have ~ $75,000 in donations and we believe we will receive a $161,300 matching grant from Partners for Sacred Places. Mike Bean is our Capital Campaign chairman and he is working on the visual aids from the Myers Anderson Facilities Assessment (see copy in Sanctuary, Parlor or Nancy for an electronic copy). Nancy is drafting a Fundraising Case Study for our donors to understand our history and our needs for the campaign Idaho Heritage Grant Work We have already completed the high priority preservation work for This included removing the tar (bituminous paper that trapped water in the bricks), permanently securing the capstones on the building, checking the roof drains for function and removing the debris from the drains. The paperwork to obtain the Idaho Heritage matching grant was mailed in early June and we hope to receive the $8,750 matching grant to pay Highlander Masonry for their work with the capstones. The Trinity funds we used in this matching grant have been on the books for several years as Capital Reserves Restoration and Roof Repair Funds. These donors truly made a difference in preserving our building. We hope to receive another Idaho Heritage grant in the future and stated in our paperwork that our handling of this phase of the project provides proof that we are capable of properly managing our money and completing the project in a timely manner. Thanks so very much to the project managers Michael Croson, Barry O Brien and Robert Denkins who organized and followed the work. NOTE: We haven t forgotten our stained-glass windows need restoration and our Facilities Assessment lists their restoration in the 10-year plan.. Nancy Stewart Page 3

The crew is still meeting on Wednesdays at 6:30pm all summer. By Robin Stewart Boy Scout Troop 6 Scout Camp is coming up the last week of June at Camp Bradley near Stanley. Canoe training has started for the troop's upcoming Henry's Fork float trip. The scouts are learning the SUPER important Pry and Draw strokes which are essential for maneuvering on the river. Upcoming highlights include how to un-swamp a canoe using a buddy boat or dragging it to the shore. Several of the scouts from the Troop 6 earned the Electricity and Energy merit badges at a recent scramble. They received their awards at a special court of honor at City Hall in the council chambers. Good job guys. Recycle for Education in Nicaragua - NIRDA Recycle for Education in Nicaragua - NIRDA (Nicaraguan Rural Development Agency) has not been as active with Mission Work in Nicaragua the past few years. However we are still assisting some worthy students with scholarships for education. We continue to recycle aluminum cans and encourage everyone to put cans in the recycle bin near Mary Dawson Hall or get them to Jim and Betty Anderson. Many drink cans are used in the summer months so please assist us and recycle aluminum cans. Page 7

6 Trinity in Local Mission By: Marilyn Taylor Total Eclipse of the Sun Interfaith Community Service Project Each year on the 4th of July, we participate in the Interfaith Community Service Project. Hunger and need are a 365 days of the year affliction and we believe that we can be the heart and hands of the Lord in the rescue effort for His children. Kindness in words creates confidence, but kindness in giving creates love. We are looking for donations of clothing, bedding, paper goods, cleaning supplies, school supplies, food items, diapers/pullups, bath towels, personal hygiene items, sleeping bags, and cash donations. Please note on your check or offering envelope Interfaith Community Service Project. You can take items to the July 4th parade and give them to the project float as it goes by, or place them in the donation boxes in the church office. Targeted Charitable Institutions: The City of Refuge Shelter & Meals The Haven Shelter Women's Shelter The Idaho Falls Soup Kitchen Meals The Idaho Falls Community Food Basket Friends in Service Here (F.I.S.H.) St Vincent de Paul and Thrift Store Hospice of Eastern Idaho Mothers Day Blanket Totals It is exciting that over $686 was given for Mother s Day blankets!!! Thanks to the generosity of many!!! I think that one important thing in the blanket program is that the blankets are made from wool produced by people who need an income, so people other than the recipients of the blankets are also helped by this program. To raise funds for the restoration project, Trinity is going to serve food for the three-day Eclipse weekend (August 19-21). There will be thousands of extra visitors in town that weekend and activities at the Museum of Idaho will draw people that need to be fed. We will be serving breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday and Sunday. On Monday we will be serving breakfast and a late lunch to the visitors that will be headed out of town. The menu will be a simple breakfast, hamburgers, hotdogs and pulled pork for lunch and???????? for dinner. We will need volunteers to help with the cooking, serving, cleanup and water sales in the front yard. This is a great opportunity to raise money for the restoration project and to keep Trinity in the middle of the action in Idaho Falls. Please let Rev. Ruth know how you would like to be of service. Father s Day Tools of Hope So far we have received $ 265 for the World Church Services Tools of Hope program. Tools of Hope empower people and bring a better tomorrow. Join us for lots of FUN, FEL- LOWSHIP and FAITH as we meet Jesus while Camping! Betty Anderson, Coordinator Trinity to Host at Little Church in the Pines July 16th Trinity Choir at LCITP on July 10th 2016 July 16th is Trinity s Sunday to host the service at Little Church in the Pines in Island Park. We will be providing a choir, refreshments and ushers for the service. It takes about 2 hours to travel the 87 miles from Idaho Falls, so be sure to leave early to make it to the 10 am service. The trustees have been busy and are trying diligently to spend our money wisely. The dedicated funding projects are moving forward. Sanctuary Video Screens This last month we met with an electrician to plan the installation of power and video cables for the two new display screens in the front of the sanctuary. The screens have been purchased and are waiting for the wiring before they can be mounted Sanctuary Lighting Project: To provide more light for the pews in the rear of the sanctuary we have ordered 3 theatrical type floodlights. They are being made and should be shipped to Idaho Falls by July 14. Parlor Organ: The parlor organ was not getting much use and took up a lot of space in the parlor. The trustees arranged for its donation and we would like to thank Trustee Lynn Seymour for paying to have it moved to its next location. An upright piano has been donated and will be put in its place. Pew Spacing: We have had requests to increase the spacing between the pews to make it more comfortable and allow people to Trustees Corner by Nancy Stewart turn around and greet the people sitting behind them. Don Rohde developed a plan to increase the legroom in the center section by 3. We will complete the spacing changes this summer. While we are moving the pews Rob will reattach the seat backs to the seat bottoms where the 100 year old nails have allowed a gap to develop. Organ Tuning: The organ has a set of lower right keys that are out of tune so we will need to adjust our annual maintenance schedule for our Hillgreen-Lane organ. Heating System: Rocky Mountain Boiler replaced a condensate return float. Platform Handrail: The railing has been reinstalled near the organ and a new railing will be completed later this year to protect the gap from the alter area to the organ. Overall, Trustees have been busy working together and serving our congregation. Page 13
