Last spring we decided as a group to start the fall ADAH season by attending the Living Well with Diabetes classes in September & October and then start back with the normal ADAH programs in November. These classes are for everyone! Some of us want to avoid diabetes, some of us are caretakers of people with diabetes or prediabetes. Some of us may have diabetes or prediabetes. All are welcome to attend the classes. The speakers need to know how many people will be attending so they can order the right amount of materials. It is important for you to call Dave Klingler at (208) to register for this free class. Please see the attached poster elsewhere in the Blast!

4 Special Thanks to all who helped during the Eclipse! Although we won t know the final figures from the past few days for a couple more weeks, none of it would have happened without all the effort from everyone. This includes those who made the signs, who hauled food and water around, who served food, who cleaned up, who donated items, who helped make it a big success. Thanks to everyone!!!!! Attention All Bakers- Please bring your very best tasting gluten-free bread on Rally Day, Sept. 10th, where we will vote with our pocketbooks. The bread with the most votes in the jar next to it will possibly be the recipe used for communion. RCCM Churches, Thank you so much for your support! We are in need of some new volunteers to help fill out our schedule We know there are some folks who are available only seasonally (winter or summer) OR can volunteer twice a month but not weekly. We welcome those schedules as well and would gladly train and work you into our schedule. We love our volunteers! 11 Building Beloved Community at Trinity Why restore the church? It is an historically significant building that should be preserved It is a living asset in the community. (Our spiritual gift to the community) It is our spiritual home. It holds our history and friends and our future. History and Architecture Trinity roots date back to 1834 when the first Methodist preachers and missionaries, including Jason Lee, passed through the Rockies. The history which laid groundwork for Trinity is intertwined with the early roots of Idaho Falls. Our church cornerstone is dated 1916, and the historical grace of the current sanctuary includes the original organ, pews, and stained-glass windows. The National Historic Landmark registry states that Trinity Methodist Church is a massive rusticated stone structure in the Tudor-Gothic style. Constructed of local rhyolite stone quarried north of Heise There is a stone Celtic cross in the gable. The front, clerestory, and aisle windows are stained glass. Stone buttresses and pilasters provide the vertical thrust in the design. Decorative stone panels with Gothic motifs are placed in the towers and above the main entrance. The Trinity Methodist Church is architecturally significant as the best example of the Tudor-Gothic style in Idaho. Hillgreen-Lane Company of Ohio made the church s organ. This early electro-pneumatic organ has one thousand pipes and was the most pretentious organ of its period in Idaho Falls. Asset to the Community Trinity is a home to numerous organizations that benefit the community, such as: Boy Scouts Troop 6, Girl Scouts Troop 60, 3 addiction recovery groups, Regional Council of Christian Ministries (which oversees several social service groups), and Community Partners. The building is also used by theater and choral groups because of our extraordinary acoustics. It is our spiritual home For the past 100 years our stained-glass windows have been silent witnesses to the sacred moments of the life of Trinity. As couples have recited their marriage vows, as infants and adults have been baptized, and as we have celebrated the lives of those we love but see no more this place has been our spiritual home. Following Methodist tradition we bring Good News of hope and an open Communion Table to all who worship at Trinity UMC.
12 Building Assessment In 2017 Myers Anderson Architects were engaged to conduct a full assessment of the building including structural, electrical and HVAC considerations. Their report provides a road map for the restoration of the building. In summary, Trinity UMC is in generally good condition with a few significant items and conditions that should be addressed. There are areas of the exterior stone masonry that have soft or missing mortar on the upper walls and parapets caused by water infiltration. The restoration will include repointing upper walls, parapets, some windowsills and exposed horizontal trims where mortar is missing. The restoration will include the removal and replacement of the roofing systems on the sanctuary and parlor sections of the building. Current flashings and roofing systems are past their life spans and require significant repair or replacement to prevent further damage. Due to leakage, current maintenance often includes expensive repair of ceilings and walls. The building does not provide adequate handicap accessible restrooms, nor are the existing restrooms numerous enough to meet the facility s occupancy load. The renovations will include doubling the restroom capacity, adding family/handicap accessible restrooms on the main level, and adding showers on the lower level. Another need being addressed is the increased demand for functions with meals serving 50 or fewer people such as small funerals, wedding receptions, community organizations and after-church events. The parlor is perfect in size and location for these events but the parlor kitchen is very small. We could offer many more events to the community if we had an adequate adjoining kitchen in which to prepare and serve food. What will it cost? Trinity has begun a $483,900 capital funds campaign for restoration and renovation to ensure another 100-years in this beautiful building. The project includes: New mortar to secure upper stonework - $78,000 Replace roof over sanctuary and parlor $104,000 Double current restroom capacity $181,900 Expand and upgrade parlor kitchen $120,000 Where will the money come from? The money will come from donations from the congregation, the community and the National Fund for Sacred Places who will match campaign donations. (For every $2 we raise they will match with $1) How Can I Help? Between now and mid-september, you will be contacted by a Trinity member of the campaign team to arrange a private meeting to talk about your support. Thank you for being an important part of Trinity s history, present and future.
