2 Z ION S O UTPOST NEWSLETTER [F.Y.I. continued from page 1] VOLUME 29 N O. 11 P AGE 2 News From Raeann Edson: Life's been pretty busy. I got a job at Modine Manufacturing as a Manufacturing Engineer. I've been working there since mid July. They make EGR's (exhaust gas recirculators) for diesel engines. I run the line that makes the interior fins which basically are congregated sheets of steel. I'm on call 24/7 which is sometimes annoying but I've made several improvements so it's not been near as much of a problem lately. Wedding planning is going well and got the major details planned, just working on other details now. My craft room has wedding and Christmas presents exploded all over it. Nicholas and I have been looking for a car so I can have something that gets around in the snow better than my car; we ended up purchasing a 2007 Chevy Tahoe. We both absolutely love it. We are also searching for land so we can start building our future home. So far we haven't had much luck on either end but I'm sure we will find something when the time is right. International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church: IDOP is a global day of intercession for persecuted Christians worldwide. Its primary focus is the work of intercessory prayer and citizen action on behalf of persecuted communities of the Christian faith. We also encourage prayer for the souls of the oppressors, the nations that promote persecution, and those who ignore it. This year IDOP is Sunday, November 2, honor this important call to prayer. [from: Operation Christmas Child: The season for creating and giving shoe boxes for the Samaritan s Purse ministry program is upon us. Brochures and prayer cards are waiting for you on the table in the sanctuary. Remember ZO collection ends Sunday, November 23. See page 6 in this newsletter for info on how to pack your shoebox. Contact Gary Whiting with further questions. The following is a quote of an the Newman s received from Samaritan s Purse: When We Pray, God Works Continue earnestly in prayer Colossians 4:2 Prayer is at the heart of Operation Christmas Child as we work to share the Gospel with children all over the world. As faithful people like you pray for the project, the Holy Spirit prompts people to pack shoeboxes, pairs those gifts with just the right child, and softens hearts to the Good News of Jesus Christ. Join thousands of prayer partners by signing up to pray during National Collection Week as we lift up every aspect of this Samaritan's Purse program, from the shoebox collection and processing to distribution, asking the Lord to prepare children around the world for the life-changing message of the Gospel. As the Apostle Paul reminds us, God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us (Ephesians 3:20 NKJV) National Collection Week is November 17 24! Visit our website to find everything you need to share good news and great joy with children around the world, including how to pack a shoebox, and where to find your nearest drop-off location. You can discover the destination of your gift by making your shipping donation online, download free resources from our resource hub, and learn more about The Greatest Journey, Operation Christmas Child s follow-up discipleship program. Pine Ridge Indian Reservation Collection: A donation box is located at the back of the sanctuary for anyone wanting to bring items for the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. On page 6 is a letter from Sister Pam Burford with detailed info and suggested items to donate. Please contact Sister Pam if you have questions. Remember, ZO collection for Pine Ridge also ends Sunday, November 23. Branch Thanksgiving Potluck Lunch: Please join us on November 16 for a traditional TG meal with trimmings. Contact Sandy Whiting to coordinate the meal. Hanging of the Green: November 30, following the 11am service we will decorate the church in Christmas decor. All ages are invited to join the fellowship of both decorating and then eating soup or chili [food will be provided]. Notify Debbie N. of your intended attendance and any dietary needs. All Adult Advent Fellowship: The Women s Dept. invites all men, high school grads and older, to the Newman s home, Dec. 7 at 6:30pm, for fellowship in worship and refreshments. For details, contact Debbie N. ZO Branch Directory: A new branch directory will be printed in December. Please notify Debbie Newman by November 30th of all listing corrections and additions of names, etc. that need to be made to the existing directory.

3 Z ION S O UTPOST NEWSLETTER Calendar Quote continued from page 1: Latter Day Saints to build upon that rock. To build upon the rock that God is provided for us in Jesus Christ requires that we exercise faith and obey Him in all that He says. Even if things do not seem to make sense to us, the rock is the only safe place to be. There are no shortcuts or substitutes to being in a right relationship with God and obeying His commandments. This is all the more important now as we come into the latter days and the second coming of Christ approaches. The storms that will challenge the Saints and the world around us will be very intense. Zion will be those who have built their homes on the rock. Only this rock can be the foundation of Zion. It is the only safe ground upon which we can build. When God issued this admonition in section 6 it was as encouragement and as a warning to the Saints so it is for us today. Therefore fear not little flock, do good, let earth and hell combine against you, for if ye are built upon my Rock, they can not prevail. Doctrine & Covenants 6:16a Hymn for November: How Firm a Foundation, #351, The Hymnal, Copyright 1956, HERALD PUBLISHING HOUSE, Independence, MO, Ninth Printing, November, How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord, Is laid for your faith in his excellent word; What more can he say than to you he hath said, Who unto the Savior for refuge have fled; Who unto the Savior for refuge have fled? In every condition, in sickness, in health, In poverty s vale or abounding in wealth, At home or abroad, on the land or the sea, As thy days may demand so thy succor shall be; As thy days may demand so thy succor shall be. Fear not, I am with thee; Oh, be not dismayed, For I am thy God, and will still give thee aid; I ll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand, Upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand; Upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand. The soul that on Jesus still leans for repose I will not, I cannot desert to his foes; That soul, tough all hell should endeavor to shake, I ll never, no never, no never forsake, I ll never, no never, no never forsake! V OLUME 29 NO. 11 P AGE 3 A Family Prayer of Thanksgiving Our Father, with grateful hearts we come to thee in fellowship. We thank thee for the joy of life, for the love of one another, and for our friends, near and far. We thank thee for seed, soil, sunshine, and rain, and for the harvests. May our gratitude for thy abundant gifts to us lead us to help thee meet the needs of others. May we, like the Pilgrim Fathers, express our faith in thee through the sincerity of our worship, through the study of thy Word, through friendships, and though a purpose to live according to thy way. May the greatness of our nation be founded upon goodness and dedication to thy purposes. Forgive us when we have been unkind to others, when we have been careless of thy gifts, and when we have been slow to live as helpful neighbors to all peoples. In sincere thankfulness for the gift of thy Son, Jesus, we would prepare for Christmas, the holy time of his coming. May the light of the Bethlehem star lead us to Jesus. Amen. 4 Z ION S O UTPOST NEWSLETTER Women s Department V OLUME 29 NO. 11 P AGE 4 Dear Sisters in Christ, Thank you for your prayers during the week of the U.S. National Conference, I know they made a difference! Those that gathered for the conference were anxious to learn more of how we can enhance & encourage our families and thus strengthen the church family. Many qualified saints presented classes on various topics that encouraged us to do more than we have been engaged in. Read page 5 for a fuller report of the conference. All of the classes are, or soon will be, available to watch on the JCRB website: The women at conference gathered on Saturday morning while the priesthood quorums were meeting. To start with several women offered prayer for the conference, specific needs and for the body of restoration women as a whole. Sister Barbara Giertz presented the RWM committee members and then she asked for comments from the body of women; regarding ways women can support each other, what has been helpful to them, as well as particular needs the women have. Before we closed our session together, I presented the RWM suggested women s study for 2015 that the committee is presently working on. As mentioned in the October ZO NL, the theme for the 2015 study is Choose Eternal Life. We are in the final stages of preparing the study and I ask for you continued prayers. If you do not presently receive our women s yearly study but would like to, contact me and I ll see that you do. When we are united in study we can gain strength and unity. The November WD meeting will be at Sister Laurie Drope s home on the 10. Elder David Newman will present our last lesson for 2014, By His Power I Will Stand. Please keep in your prayers as he prepares for this lesson. I hope this study, The Power to Become has been helpful for you to realize and rely on His power that is radiant in our lives that enables us to become His servants and daughters of our Heavenly Father. Your servant & sister in Christ, Debbie Newman Zion s Busy Bees: The last two quilt meetings for 2014 are scheduled for November 11 and December 9. They meet at the church at 7pm. Contact Sandy Whiting or Martha Van Nordstrand for more details of present and future meeting dates and projects. 5 Z ION S O UTPOST NEWSLETTER VOLUME 29 N O. 11 P AGE 5 Report on 2014 US National Conference Of the Joint Conference of Branches By David Newman The theme for the conference: Enhancing and Encouraging Our Families Fourteen (14) member branches sent 46 delegates. Branches represented with delegates included Cross Timbers, Dallas, Devon Park, Dixie, East Gate, Forefront, Independence, Saints Haven, Keosauqua, Mount Ayr, Nauvoo, Zarahemla, Zion s Outpost and Zion s Witness. In addition there were 74 registered members at large from member and non-member branches and 1 registered member of the Remnant Church. All meetings and presentations were well attended. We had two short business sessions, one on Thursday morning and one on Saturday afternoon. The general conference (GC) officers are elected by the affiliated members throughout the world and have acted, by the approval of the US National Conference (USNC), as USNC officers. The budget set by the GC was being funded in the USNC. The JCRB was originally incorporated by the US conference as JCRB and needed to give up its rights and interests to the General Conference so that it could receive, hold and disperse funds, etc.. USNC Resolution was passed by the USNC to rectify this situation and will need to be acted on in the GC of The Saturday business session consisted of reports by the committees of the GC of Dean Falconer and Chuck Perry are working on an Organizational Analysis of the GC to help the conference determine who we are and what we are. A final report will be available before the April conference. The organizational issues will be a focus for the April 2015 General Conference. Seventy Frank Frye reported that the process of translating the Book of Mormon into Swahili was recently finished. Publishing the Book of Mormon in the Swahili language will help make the fullness of the gospel available to a large number of African people. This important work was a joint effort of 5 teams of African priesthood, Africa Restoration Ministries and Frank Frye of the JCRB. There were several presentations made on Thursday and Friday. The following were the topics and presenters: Family Management by Sister Roxana Fishel Family Relationships by Patriarch Fred Green Family Preparedness by Sisters Barbara Jordison and Kathy Williams Church Family by High Priest Alan Smith Church Family by Elder Kent Pedersen and sister Chari Pedersen Family Finance by High Priest Bob Giertz and Sister Barbara Giertz Extended Family, (care for the family when men are away from home for extended priesthood ministry) by the Seventies in attendance Friday evening there was a music concert featuring a number of performers. The MC was Rolland James. Saturday morning the conference families ate breakfast together prepared by Kelly Canfield with set up and clean up by the youth. Saturday evening we sat under the preaching ministry of Elder Jonah Bates. Sunday began with a prayer service followed by a Communion Service with the message brought by Patriarch Fred Green. Parting is such sad sweet sorrow and many lingered, talked, said goodbyes, helped with clean-up and pack-up as families do. Duane Newman and Audio/Visual staff, Paul, Lisa, Kyle and others were the first on the scene at the beginning of conference and last to leave at the end.
