It s not too late! If you know of a worthy and well-qualified Brother Mason who would like to attain more light in Masonry, there is still time to petition to receive the Scottish Rite degrees during the 2013 Fall Reunion. 3 November / December his Fall has started off with a big T bang! At our September Stated Meeting our Knights of St. Andrew held a Knighting Ceremony on three Squires who had completed their obligations as Squires. All were knighted as full fledged members of the Tucson Clan. Also knighted were five new Squires. The future of the Tucson Clan of KSA is very bright. On October 5th, the Orient of Arizona came together to recognize those members who had been voted on by the membership to receive the rank and decoration of Knight Commander of the Court of Honour and Inspector General Honorary of the 33rd Degree. Over 200 members and guests joined us for the Investiture Ceremony and a wonderful lunch served in Atchley Hall. Following lunch, the ladies program was held in the Ochoa Dining Room while the Coronation of the Inspectors General Honorary of the 33rd Degree was held in the Drachman Room. Well over 100 members and family members joined together for a brunch at the Tanque Verde Guest Ranch on Sunday the 13th of October. A great time was had by all. Oh yes, the food was great also. Those who attended the Feast of Tishri at the October Stated Meeting, were treated to a completely different Feast. We hope everyone enjoyed the program. The Fall Reunion is in a couple of weeks and there is still time to bring in Candidates. Remember, the success of the Scottish Rite is in its members. Supreme Council has now produced the Master Craftsman III which deals with the Blue Lodge Degrees only. You can order the program on-line from Supreme Council or purchase it at our office. If you purchase the new program at our office, the cost is $67.00 which includes tax and shipping. If you haven t been to the Cathedral since May you need to stop by and see all the changes which have been made. The money received from hosting Special Events is being used to pay outside contractors to restore our Cathedral to its original state. The carpeting on the stairway and lobby area leading to the Drachman Room was removed and the original wood flooring restored. The stage in the Red Room is also back to its original wood floor. Take a good look at the walls in the Red Room mahogany paneling has replaced the red burlap which surrounded the lower portion of the walls. All of this has been done without reaching into Scottish Rite funds. We are very fortunate because without our Special Events, we would be like other Valleys around the country putting our Cathedral up for sale and watching it being turned into condos. There are still projects which need to be done such as remodeling our kitchen, purchasing new lighting in the Red Room and the curtain in the Red Room needs to be replaced. You too can help our Cathedral is a 501(c)3 foundation which allows you to make a donation on your 2013 Federal and State income tax return. If you are looking for a tax write-off, please consider donating to the Cathedral Foundation. The Donation Form is printed on the back cover of the newsletter. I Ill.. J. Michael Atchley, 33º, G..C.. Personal Representative Valley of Tucson was recently reading a blog from a well-known clergyman. He wrote of visiting a nearby church and hearing a sermon from the pastor whose message was as follows: If you aren t a Christian, you are going to hell for all eternity. By Christian, wrote the blogger, the pastor meant a Christian as he, the pastor understood it; his brand of Christian. It was a troubling message to that well-known clergyman and blogger, but it is a message that is heard far too often today. It is, said the blogger, a message that is tearing apart Africa and the Middle East a message that brought us the Crusades and the Holocaust. It is a message that fosters slavery and apartheid a message of hate wrapped in the language of love. I recalled the tolerance preached in Blue Lodge and the message of the 30th Degree of the Scottish Rite the Knight Kadosh, where we are taught to battle Spiritual Tyranny which seeks to decide for man his earthly and spiritual fate. I was grateful once again for Masonry and again impressed with the need to help spread its teachings in the world. The well-known clergyman then concluded that we need to spread the idea that the Way and the truth and the life are for everyone; that living that Way is doing justly and loving mercy, a way of non-harming, loving neighbor and stranger alike and being a blessing to all families of the earth human and otherwise. It is, he said, imagining a God so big as to love everyone whether they believe or not. That s an idea worthy of spreading around. Begin with Blue Lodge and carry it on to Scottish Rite. Start as soon as you can! Bro.. Gilbert A. Schlierer, 32º Membership Director

5 November / December Dues Notices were recently mailed to all members. Supreme Council voted to increase our per capita per member, over four years. In turn we were forced to revise our dues structure to accommodate their changes. This year s dues will be $ It is a small jump, but necessary. I have said many times, the strength of our Fraternity is in its members. I ask each of you to continue your support of our Valley with your 2014 dues payment. Please remember Make your payment Directly to the Tucson office. We accept all forms of payment check, cash or any major credit or bank debit card. Menu Tossed Salad w/vinaigrette Dressing Haggis Scottish Oatmeal Bread Roast Chicken w/bonnie Prince Charles Sauce Tatties and Neeps Trifle Coffee, Iced Tea and Punch A couple of weeks ago, we honored those members named by the Supreme Council to receive the 33º Inspector General Honorary and the 32º Knight Commander of the Court of Honour. Congratulations to those honored Brothers! My term as Venerable Master is almost over. It has been a fleeting year for me. The Valley has continued to be very active and we have been fortunate to have many dedicated members to share the work. This is the end of a 15-year journey to the East including many years in the Rose Croix line in Chicago which started 44 years ago in the Valley of Southern Illinois. Over the years, I have been fortunate to know many extraordinary Masons. One of my old DeMolay friends became the Sovereign Grand Inspector General in Louisiana and introduced me to another DeMolay named Ronald A. Seale who also became a Scottish Rite leader you may have heard of him along the way. They, like our own Sovereign Grand Inspector General, Illustrious Robert F. Hannon, 33º, are good and decent men who labor day after day to help the Scottish Rite grow and prosper in difficult times for fraternal organizations. I see in some areas reluctance for Brothers to recruit new men and it seems they don t want to dilute their own circle of friends or perhaps erode their own status. Brothers, share the word! Freemasonry is a tremendous group of men. Scottish Rite is a great group which through our degrees, teaches more lessons in a different format which may be easier to understand. Share the opportunity to learn with your Masonic Brothers. My sincere thanks to all who have helped, supported and mentored me along this epic journey. Bro.. Stanley L. 6 6 November / December 2013 Thank You to everyone for making the 2013 Honours Celebration a tremendous Success!
7 November / December MASTER CRAFTSMAN STUDY GROUP Franklin Quotes enjamin Franklin once created a B list of 13 virtues to live by. This baker s dozen included silence, order, resolution, frugality, industry, sincerity, justice, temperance, moderation, tranquility, cleanliness, chastity, and humility. You will see these virtues emphasized again and again in these quotes, many culled from Franklin s Poor Richard s Almanack. Did Franklin himself listen to Poor Richard s advice? Sometimes. Sometimes not. Eat to live, and not live to eat. Three may keep a secret, if two of them are dead. Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise. What is serving God? Tis doing Good to Man. He that lieth down with Dogs, shall rise up with Fleas. God helps them that help themselves. Keep your eyes wide open before marriage, half shut afterwards. House guests, like dead fish, begin to smell after three days. Who has deceiv d thee so oft as thy self?
