Resurrection Sunday Children & Youth Sunday Our morning begins with a sunrise service on the Labyrinth. Then, everyone is invited to adorn our cross in the sanctuary with fresh cut flowers representing new life in Christ. Please bring your flowers as early as 9:00 am before you go to Sunday school. Our celebration of Christ s resurrection will culminate at the end of the worship hour with a live butterfly release on the Labyrinth. Children will enjoy an egg hunt on the church front lawn after the release. This year, our children and youth will help us explore the day s lectionary passages in creative ways. Using themes, images, and truths found in Psalm 116 & Luke 24, the children and youth will guide us to explore what it means to walk with Jesus, to have our hearts and eyes opened to his call, and to not waste a minute of our lives. They are currently preparing skits and musical selections for worship. Children will continue to practice on Sundays at 9:15am and youth at 12:15pm in the choir room (No practice Easter). We hope you will join us in worship on this special day. Make plans to stay for a potluck meal after worship, followed by the Big Bake Sale/Auction! This is always a fun event and raises money for our children and youth programs. Money raised goes toward youth summer programs and scholarships for children in our church to attend camp this fall. Please see Katelyn or Rebecca about donating baked goods for auction. April 16th We celebrate because Christ the Lord is risen! Christ the Lord is risen indeed! 2 Millbrook Ministry Updates Millbrook Baptist Preschool - by Suzanne Holleman Millbrook Baptist Church and Millbrook Baptist Preschool will host a Spring Fling on April 23 rd at 4:00 with games and bounce houses. This is the only cost of the evening. So please bring cash and a healthy appetite. A silent auction will be taking place all evening; therefore, we are also looking for silent auction donations. The Preschool can provide a contribution letter for taxes. Thank you for your help. Registration for the 2017/2018 school year has already begun! We would love for you to spread the word about our fantastic Preschool program to neighbors and friends. We have also started enrolling for the summer camp program! All are invited to hear from Rev. Dr. George Fuller, founder and CEO of Silver Compassion, to begin life planning. 3 April Cook s Kornor - by Angie Hoomani This year Easter comes late. I know we are all looking forward to an end to the cold weather. We will begin the month with Meat Loaf on the 5 th and our Middle Eastern meal of Saffron Chicken on the 13 th, Maundy Thursday. We will have a break the week after Easter before ending the month on the 26 th with Chicken Parmesan. As most of you know, due to a major fall in August, I injured my right side and had knee replacement surgery in October. Now I need to have shoulder replacement surgery on April 18 th. Please whisper prayers that all will go well with my surgery and it will be as successful as my knee replacement. Our team will continue preparing meals during my absence until May 17 th. Also, members of our team are beginning to feel our age and feel that we can no longer cook every week next year. We will need other members to help with some of the cooking in the future. Our deacons are working on a new plan for next year that will involve different teams sharing the cooking. Please keep these changes in mind and consider helping in the kitchen next year. It has truly been a great pleasure to serve in this capacity for the last ten years and I hope to have time to help in some other areas as well in the future. You will hear more from the deacons in the near future. We look forward to seeing each of you during April when you join us for our mid-week meals of Food, Fellowship and Fun! Honduras - by Debbie Crumpler Meet Family 2 House #14: Mother: Rosa Morán Mejía Grandmother: María Luz Morán age 81 Brother of mother: Carlos Humberto Morán Daughters: Nancy 8, Karla - 3 As you can see, this family consists of five persons. The sole income for this family comes from the sale of homemade bread, which totals a little over $34 a month. By providing a house to them, this money no longer has to go for rent--it can be put to good use for food, clothing and medical needs. Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper - by Katelyn McWhorter Sizzle! Sizzle! The griddle was hot! We had the biggest crowd for our Shrove Tuesday festivities that I have seen in my 7 years at Millbrook. It was a great evening of pancakes, games, and Syrup Awards! Fantastic cooks provided us with such a variety: plain, blueberry, chocolate chip, and secret recipe pancakes! Everyone went home happy! They come in strawberries, blueberries, chocolate chips, too. Pancakes make me happy when I am sad and blue. Golden brown and warm on the inside and out! Pancakes make smiles out of tears and pouts! After a few trips to fill up our plates with pancakes, the games started. Children and youth put pancakes in their mouths and said, I love Millbrook. I thought stuffing in more pancakes would slow down their words, but man was I wrong! The more they had in their mouths the more passionately they stated, I LOVE MILLBROOK. It wouldn t be Shrove Tuesday without a Pancake Toss. This year s Syrup Award Winners for the toss were Mackenzie Crockett and Wyatt Pearce! We ended with a game of Hot Syrup. Winners were holding the syrup when the music stopped. Congratulations to winners Cher Moss, Lucy Gray Pearce, and Kelly Pearce! (Sounds like we need to head to the Pearce s for breakfast!) Although this event is always free, this year, donations were given to the Duke Cancer Society in memory of Davena Rice. If you didn t make it this year, don t worry! There is always next year and we would LOVE to have you

6 Letters to MBC Dear MBC Family, If you look at Millbrook s website, you will read that Millbrook Baptist Church shares God s love by being an open and inclusive community of faith. These past few weeks, you all have proven that time and time again as you have surrounded the Campbell/Pennington Family with love and kindness. You all have nourished and encouraged them constantly. Thank you so much for your kind words, heart-felt prayers, support with a fund raiser both financially and physically, a labyrinth walk, and so much more. You all are some good, good people. Thank you! The Campbell/Pennington Family and Katelyn McWhorter Dear Millbrook, I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude. Thank you for remembering me during my recent surgery and recovery. It was so nice that many of you took the time to share a smile, send a card or prepare a warm meal. Your thoughtfulness has made my recovery easier. I am very humbled by the warmth and giving spirit of our church. Thank you so much!
