1 The Monthly e-newsletter of First United Methodist Church of Mont Belvieu Beginning Sunday, June 3rd FUMC MB is stepping into a new, 2 month test collaboration with The Pathway Church of Mont Belvieu. Pathway is a new church start in its 4th year of worshipping here in the Mont Belvieu area. Led by Pastor Chris Bradford, Pathway began by worshipping in the homes of members and then moving to the Recreation room at The Eagle Pointe Recreation Center. For the months of June and July, The Pathway Church will be worshipping in Fisher Chapel of First United Methodist Church of Mont Belvieu Sunday mornings at 10:45 a.m. Pathway will also be utilizing Room #5 & #7, and several classrooms on the second floor from 10:45-12 noon on Sunday mornings for their children s small groups. FUMC MB will be continuing with our regular Sunday morning worship schedule this Summer with 9 a.m. Casual Worship in Fisher Chapel and 10:45 a.m. Traditional Worship in the Sanctuary. Both Congregations will be viewing these 9 weeks as a time of discernment, to prayerfully determine if this partnership might be beneficial for our worshipping communities for a longer period of time. In 1st Corinthians 12:12, Paul says, For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. WEEKLY PLAY DATES: Tuesday mornings at 9 a.m. June 5th-July 24th Grab a swim suit and the family and join us at the Mont Belvieu City Park Splash Pad (10900 Eagle Dr, 77523) Tuesdays in June and July at 9 a.m. YOUTH VIDEO GAME DAY: Calling all youth 6th grade and up to join us Sunday, June 10th at 12:15 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall for an afternoon of Family Friendly Group Video Games! Children kindergarten and up are welcome with a parent or guardian. Lunch will be provided. MONTHLY KIDZ HOUSE CLUB HOUSE: Wednesday evenings from 6-7:15 p.m. on June 6th & July 18th Calling all kiddos age 4-5th grade: Join us in the Fellowship Hall at FUMC MB at 6 p.m. on June 6th and July 18th as we enjoy a mid month gathering! We ll gather at 10:15 a.m. in the lobby at FUMC MB and caravan over to St. James. We ll help Pastor Melody lead chapel and visit the residents. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL: Sunday July 29th-Thursday August 2nd 6-8:30 p.m. Calling all kiddos ages 4-5th grade to join FUMC MB and our Rolling River Rampage Vacation Bible School as we embark on the Ride of a Lifetime with God! Kids learn Jesus is with them all the time, even in the rapids. Rolling River Rampage VBS takes kids on an action-packed white-water rafting adventure to experience the ride of a lifetime with God. 5 celebrating 2018 graduates Brandon Duckworth, graduating from Barbers Hill High School, is the son of members Jeff and Charlotte Duckworth--and brother of member Lauren Duckworth. He is one of the recipients of the $750. scholarships awarded by FUMCMB's United Methodist Women. His favorite activity in high school was band. Brandon has already earned his Eagle Scout status, with his awards ceremony planned for this month. His Eagle Scout project was the beautiful landscaping at the side entrance to the church. Gavin Fraysur, son of member Stephanie Fraysur and grandson of member Marilyn Fraysur, has attended Barbers Hill High School all four years and is graduating along with his twin sister, Gabby Fraysur. Gavin enjoyed "theater" during his high school years. His favorite pastimes are playing video games and practicing accents! He is contemplating a career as a video editor--but he'd also like to work as an interpreter for the American Sign Language organization. Gabby Fraysur, four hours older than her twin brother, Gavin, will also be graduating from Barbers Hill High School. She has attended there all four years and lists English as her favorite subject. She also enjoys art, especially working with watercolors. She has enlisted in the US Navy and will be leaving for boot camp in Illinois in July. Jody Moore, who is a member of FUMCMB along with his parents, Clayton and Mindy Hall, is graduating from Barbers Hill High School and has been awarded one of the $750 scholarships sponsored by FUMCMB's United Methodist Women. Jody names "band" as his favorite school activity. He plays the trombone. Jody plans to attend LAMAR UNIVERSITY in the fall where he will major in music education. Brittany Lowery, granddaughter of members David and Kathy Sailer, is graduating from Sterling High School in Baytown where she has attended all four years. Brittany's favorite subject is "government," which she says helped her choose and prepare her for her military career. She has joined the UNITED STATES ARMY and will leave for boot camp in Iowa July 20. She plans to work on her college degree while in the military and would like to study medicine.

7 families spotlight family Jernigan Family Fourteen years ago the Jernigan Family moved to Mont Belvieu and became members of FUMCMB, where they have served with dedication and enthusiasm ever since! Following a military career (Master Sergeant, US Air Force) for Woody, the Jernigans were living in Pearland with Beth employed as a school principal in nearby Alvin. She accepted a job as a principal in the Goose Creek school system, thus the move to Mont Belvieu. Both had grown up in the Port Arthur area and were Methodists from childhood. Beth describes herself as a "born and bred Methodist!" Her background has served her well as she has taken on leadership roles at FUMCMB--Staff Parish Relations Committee, Choir, and several successful terms as United Methodist Women President. Woody has long been associated with the church's finances, serving terms as Finance Chair and Church Treasurer, his current position. He has also served on the Committee on Nominations & Leadership Development. Their family includes Grandson Camden "Cam" Wilson, who resides with them. Supporting Cam's high school activities, including band and academic leadership, helps keep Woody and Beth young! They are also active in the care of Woody's 91-year-old mom, who lives in Kirbyville. A son, Lt. Commander John Jernigan, wife Sheila, and granddaughters, Faith and Mollie, currently live near Seattle, WA. Through the years, as a military family, the Jernigans have lived in England, Germany, Kansas, California, Colorado, and have had SEVEN Texas military base assignments! Beth and Woody are both retired now and happily settled in Mont Belvieu. by Janelle Harvey, Membership Secretary profession of faith Barbers Hill ISD graduating senior Gabrielle (Gabby) Fraysur offered her Profession of Faith on Sunday, May 20. Gabby has a twin brother, Gavin, who is also graduating high school this month. Her mom is FUMCMB Member Stephanie Fraysur, and her grandmother is member Marilyn Fraysur. Gabby has already joined the UNITED STATES NAVY and will leave for boot camp in Great Lakes, Illinois July 24. We wish her well in her new military career!

It is also a great time to honor our Heavenly Father, and to show our appreciation for all He has done for us. What gift could you give to Him to show your love and appreciation? By becoming a Court Appointed Special Advocate, or CASA volunteer, you can help keep abused and neglected children safe, giving them a chance at finding happiness. CASA volunteers are individuals from all walks of life who speak up for a child s best interests in court. You are not a foster parent you are a voice making a real difference at a critical turning point in the child s life. What do CASA volunteers do? CASA volunteers get to know the child and gather information from everyone involved in his or her daily life, including family members, foster parents, teachers, daycare providers, doctors, lawyers, social workers and other relevant persons. You spend quality time each month with the child, gaining his or her trust. CASA volunteers use the information gathered to report to the judge, advocating for the child s needs while in the foster care system. As a volunteer, you commit to represent a child s best interests until the child reaches a safe, permanent home.
