Our income during this period was over $12,000. Funds from dues, Garage Sale and Passbooks made up 50 percent of this amount. The remaining 40 per cent was from other council fundraisers. The income was achieved through the hard work of our members and the support of St. Joseph parishioners. On July 1, the Council was able to pay mandatory expenses, such as Supreme Per Capita, Supreme Culture of Life, Supreme Catholic Advertising and State Per Capita. Other expenses paid were items required for the council to operate during the year; such as post office box cost, stamps, website fee, paper, ink, Wives Appreciation Dinner, Clergy Appreciation Dinner, and, youth Softball game and dinner. Just as important was support to the many charities the Council donates to during the year; such as the Hike for Life, Bishop s Pro-Life Dinner, scholarships to our future priest and nuns, Birth Choice, White Rose, St. Vincent de Paul, Good Samaritan of Garland, and Network of Richardson. Charity begins at home and over $4,000 was distributed to St. Joseph expenses and ministries. Financial Secretary Report (Cont.) Continued from page 1 accomplished all this even though 80 members failed to pay their dues. Can you imagine how much more we could have accomplished if these members had paid their dues? The 2015 Annual Survey of Fraternal Activity again highlights our hard work and dedication to St. Joseph, our community and our Catholic Church. The total charitable (church, community, Culture of Life and Youth) disbursements were over $25,000. The total number of visits to the sick and bereaved were 350. The total number of blood donors was 28. The total estimated hours of fraternal service (church, community, youth, Habitat for Humanity, Culture of Life, Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service, Food for Families, Special Olympics and other miscellaneous volunteer services) was over 24,000 hours. Thanks to all the brothers who submitted their volunteer hours with their 2016 dues payment. So when Supreme announces the total millions of funds donated and millions of volunteer hours by the Knights our Council's contributions are included in their numbers. To those brothers who s time, talent and treasure contributed to our numbers, God Bless you. To those who for whatever reason were missing, please join us in making 2016 the best year ever for our Council. 2

H. Tooley III L. R. Tooley Tom Westendarp VA gets New Coffee Maker During the regular monthly visit of our Knights to the VA, it was observed that the recreation room did not have a coffee urn. The previous urn was honorably discharged and VA does not provide coffee or urns to the veterans. This lack of a coffee pot in the recreation room prompted two of our monthly attendees, Ms Eileen Endress and Ms Melba Smith, who are members of the Circle of Friends organization decided to take action. They were able to get funds from the Circle of Friends Organization to buy a coffee urn and delivered the urn to the hospital. After some research they found a bargain coffee urn which they purchased and delivered by Dart train to the VA Hospital. Needless to say, the veterans were very happy to be able to enjoy coffee again. Eileen and Melba were even able to save money on train fare. While purchasing tickets for the train, they were approached by a kindly gentleman who said he had some unused tickets available at a saving. The tickets were found to be counterfeit, but that is another story. Ms Eileen Endress and Ms Melba Smith posed with their coffee urn donated to the VA Hospital. They delivered the urn for the Veterans via the Dart Train. 3

4 Council Annual Lenten Fish Fry Very Successful The Fish Fry filled the dinning hall with happy diners all complementing on the service and the quality of the meal. T 400 pounds of raditionally, at St. Joseph, the Council has Atlantic cod was served the parishioners with a Fish Fry on the sliced into fillets first Friday of Lent. The event this year was and breaded. held on February 12 and was managed by Brother John Rodriguez and his outstanding group of volunteers. Plates are prepared with fish filets, cole slaw, and french fries to serve to the hungry crowd. From the breading station the fish was transferred to the frying station where Brother Guerrero ensures that the fish, hush puppies, and potatoes are fried to perfection. Pulling off a fish fry is no easy task. Every item on the menu must be procured. Months in advance, negotiations begin to insure that the tastiest and freshest fish is available. Volunteers must be obtained to insure the success of the evening. Volunteers are needed to set up the dinning hall, to prepare the fish, to cook the meal, to serve the meal, and to complete the massive task of clean up after the patrons have all gone home. John and his group of volunteers are commended for their service and the efforts involved in hosting a great fish fry. Thanks to their efforts the Council has demonstrated its professionalism and can-do attitude in support of the parish. Talented wait staff from St. Joseph School deliver the prepared plates to the guests. They also brought the beverage and dessert. John Rodriguez and his family relaxing at the end of a very successful Council fish fry. 4

Am I grateful for the things I have? Or, am I always wanting more? Why? Am I a good steward of the earth and its resources? When am I wasteful? Do I litter? Recycle? Buy only what I truly need?
