Monica Gould Members of Presbyterian Church USA Message from the Pastor We are off to a great start! In September we launched our fall programs with a chili cook-off at NMPC. Worship in both congregations is filled with energy and the sounds of children. World Wide communion was a blessing to have so many participating as we celebrated the joy of the body of Christ all over the world. Now that the weather surprise of flood waters has receded and the autumn leaves are falling we can focus our attention on the many activities for this month and the months to come. We will be looking to you in the weeks ahead. Your gifts and talents are important to us and the life of the church. We want each of you to feel that you have a special place to serve. We want each of you to have the opportunity to be asked where you would like to share your gifts. If you do not know your gifts or if you feel they might not match the needs of the church we have a gifts inventory survey we can offer you to take and it can help you discover some of the amazing gifts God has given you. We are so excited about our future together and how we are growing in God s name for God s glory. Your presence is truly a present to us. Don t forget to read all the way through the Glad Tidings. 2 SESSION DIGEST from Clerk of Session NMPC... The Session met September 22nd. Nuts and bolts: The session is still investigating the possibility of providing internet access in the church. Several proposals have been received and reviewed. The session will continue to review various other options to ensure we have the most cost effective solution. The Session voted to have the second story windows of the church clad in vinyl to reduce the ongoing maintenance effort and cost. Cost of project is approximately $ per window. Mission: The church is sponsoring another blood drive on September 23rd. Presence: Rev Monica reported that Rally Day and the Chili Cook-off were successful. Youth education began well with excellent attendance. The new Youth Group called IMPACT has begun with a positive turnout and the hope for continued interest. Youth Sacrament classes will begin along with a Baptism class and perhaps an affirmation of faith class. There has been some confusion about handling birthday recognitions and what is the proper venue to observe them. Rev Monica will develop a plan for the future. Rev Monica will be communicating the structure and purpose of our standing committees. Community: The Shepherds have been activated 2 times in the past month. Meals were provided to Addie after her fall. Laura and Rhudy have conducted 11 Healing Touch treatments in August and September. Yoga/TaiChi have continued this summer with Rhudy Naylor leading the class. Toni Nelsen will return at the end of September. Hospitality: The committee is planning a Spaghetti Dinner on October 16th and will share the proceeds with Habitat for Humanity. Communications: Pam Nielsen has volunteered to head a new Communication Committee Moderator's Report: The new Strategic Planning Group will start to meet in late October. The church has received 5 new members in Treasurer: George reported that our cash position is steady for the month with the plate income close to budget. Expenses are just over budget. A review of our insurance will begin. New Business: Tom Nielsen has been asked to prepare an indemnity certificate for outside groups using our facilities. The Market Street sign is in need of serious repair or replacement. The Nuts and Bolts Team will look for options. Nuts and Bolts will also look at Rev Monica's church office to reconfigure it for the dual use by the Treasurer. Next Session meeting is scheduled for October 20th at 4:30 pm Rev Monica Reports on her Activities Rev Monica will be attending the next meeting of PEVA on October 27th. Monica assisted Priest Cameron Randle at St James Episcopal Pet Blessing on October 10th. October 2015 Newsletter Page 2

3 MPC News... Phase two of the Fence Project is underway, thank you to all who have contributed to this project. Session will meet October 21 st at 5pm. BLOOD DRIVE on September 23rd You were invited and you came to the second of our annual blood drives held on September 23rd, We collected 32 pints! Thank you to all the volunteers who took care of the building, registration and "after giving" snacks and refreshments. NMPC received a note of appreciation from the Red Cross and their teams rated NMPC one of their favorite locations to do a blood drive! Great going NMPC. Faith Meets Life Men's Group The newly formed "Faith Meets Life" men's discussion group has been meeting for several months with genuine success. We have averaged between 5 and 8 men who are meeting towards the end of each month on a Friday at 9:00 A.M. This is a Christian men's interactive group where there are often Bible verses to set the tone and then open by-play between those present. We have even had men from other churches attend. No topic is incorrect for discussion, and it has been very interesting how the flow of topics, reactions, and ideas have developed and intertwined. All men are welcome to attend; the general time is from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00, with flexibility the key. The topics and the reactions stay with the participants, and the talk has been lively. The next meeting is on Friday, October 30 at 9:00 A.M. Joe's Gang Joe's Gang continues to meet on a regular basis; the usual time is 9:00 A.M. on the second Tuesday of the month. Our goal is Christian fellowship while performing tasks that save the Church money while adding to the value of the physical plant. On a given Tuesday, we might work outdoors at the manse, clean up the grounds at the Church, prepare class rooms for a new Sunday School year, or clean carpets. All members and friends are welcome to participate, even for a brief time. We usually begin our day together with coffee and donuts, socialize, then spend a few hours at varied tasks. It is an opportunity to aid the Church and its programs while enjoying fellowship. Youth Sunday School topics for October October 11th Jesus and Disciples take a boat ride... 4 Up Coming Special Events IMPACT Youth Group will be meeting... October 10th October 18th November 1st November 15th All sessions will start at 6 pm and end by 7 pm Check with Rev Monica for details Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction will be held Friday October 16th from 5 pm until 7 pm. Sign up sheets are in the Makemie Room. Our supported mission for this dinner is Habitat. Advent Halloween comes to NMPC on Saturday night the 31st. You are welcome to donate some candy, come and help Rev Monica - in costume, or just drop by to say hello. Last year we had 100s of youngsters come for their treats. On November 22nd a community Advent Workshop, a Sunday of make it then take it activities to use with the family during the Advent season. Lessons and projects for all ages. Look for signup sheet.
