We have been so blessed to become a part of this church. We have been welcomed with open arms. We are excited to be a part of the Dundee UMC family. It is hard to believe that the summer months are almost over as Labor Day comes next week and school begins again for the children and youth in our community. With this comes the beginning of another new season as we begin with Rally Sunday on September 9 th and Sunday School resumes along with other activities. We look forward to having families back in church after the summer vacations and time with their families and friends. Aimee and I too have enjoyed some time away over the last few weeks while in Ireland but it is always nice to come back home again. In my message last week, there is a direct connection between the sheep that we saw in Ireland and the sheep that Jesus talked about in the stories he told. We are the sheep that Jesus spoke about and we like real sheep tend to wander off away from the other sheep (brothers and sisters in Christ) and their shepherd (Jesus). Sometimes our wandering lasts a few days or a week, other times it may be a month or even years. It is not uncommon for sheep to get lost and wander away. They keep taking one more step toward what seems to be greener grass (whatever that may be) and before long they have lost sight of the others. Jesus, in the parable of the lost sheep, tells us that the shepherd will leave the 99 and go in search of the one lost sheep. I am sure that we all know of at least one person who has wandered away from the church and maybe even God. I believe that Jesus in telling this parable, is telling us to go in search of the lost sheep and bring them back into the fold and protection of the Good Shepherd. It is there that we find grace, healing, mercy, peace and wholeness. Invite someone you know what hasn t been in church in a while, a long time, or maybe never. We as disciples of Jesus Christ are to be in the business of seeking the lost sheep. God bless, Pastor Brad

2 Now that you re planning your schedule for the fall, here s a preview of what s going on at church...come join us! Sunday School Rally Day is September 9th! The Sunday School teachers are looking forward to the beginning of another year of learning about God s great love for us. Sunday School will begin at 9 am and finish at 10:15 am. The teachers will be planning different activities throughout the year for all to enjoy. Meridith Baugher will continue to send s to the families of the Sunday Schoolers. If she does not have your address and you would like the information, please provide it to her. See you all on September 9! Confirmation Class We will be holding a confirmation class for all sixth through eighth graders starting after the first of the year and running until Easter. In the confirmation class the kids will journey together toward their first profession of their intent to live as faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. Classes will be held Sunday mornings at 9 am in place of Sunday School. More information and a parent's meeting to come later in the fall! United Methodist Women (UMW) We meet the second Thursday of most months at 7 pm at the church. We try to have an activity each month that the whole UMW can participate in. This might be a Saturday breakfast, getting together to pack Valentine boxes, or preparing the Swiss Steak Dinner. Our main goal is to work towards missions that we support through out the year. All women of the church are invited! Church Choir The Dundee United Methodist Church choir presents worship music from September through May. We welcome adult singers of any musical ability, and high school aged singers with choral experience. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary. Contact Betsy Rothrock, Director of Music, at rothrock481@yahoo.com if you have any questions. Praise Team Our Praise Team presents contemporary praise and worship music about once each month. Vocalists and instrumentalists who read music, or play well by ear, are always welcome. Rehearsals are arranged to accommodate performers schedules. Contact Dawn Wyse at wyse_dawn@yahoo.com. Chime Choir The chime choir shares their music with those in worship approximately once a month. Practices are held on Mondays beginning at 6:45 pm. Everyone is welcome, no musical experience required, just a willingness to work and an open mind to learning new things! Come join us on Mondays beginning Monday September 10. Questions? 3 Touch Letter Ministry So far in 2018 you have signed 81 touch letters which have been sent to members and friends of our church! Thank you so much for participating in this ministry and demonstrating to others that Jesus cares for those who are hurting and shares in their joys as well. If you would like a specific person or family to receive a letter, please contact JoAnn Wilfong with their name and mailing address. May God continue to bless and unify his people. Joy Stair from the UM Foundation was here and presented the 2018 Wayne C. Barrett Steward Leader Award to our church during the service on Sunday July 15th. The award consisted of this plaque and a check for $2500. This grant may be used to purchase a new laptop and/or equipment for the church. We are grateful for this generosity and support! God Cares! BABY BOTTLE DRIVE Baby Bottle Drive Heartbeat of Monroe is currently holding their Baby Bottle Drive. Heartbeat is a Christ-centered, pro-life, non-profit Pregnancy Care and Resource Center providing FREE parenting classes, infant care instruction, lay counseling, pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, resources for low-income housing, diapers and clothing for children, formula baby food, car seats, and other baby equipment. All of this is freely provided through volunteers and the generosity of local congregations. To help us, please take home an empty bottle (they are in a clear plastic bin in the narthex of the church) and return it with check, cash, or coins by September 30. Donations will help Heartbeat of Monroe serve needy families in your community. Visit or call for more information about what we do.
