Amen. That s exactly what we re called to do as the church in this time and place. We re called to tell stories that enlighten minds and give new life. Some of those stories are found in our scriptures, some in our history and some in our everyday experience. As we share these stories we gain new insights. In this Easter season we re remembering the stories of Jesus resurrection appearances to his disciples and friends in the 40 days following Easter and his appearances to us now as we prepare to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. What story is your favorite? The Doubting Thomas story? The Road to Emmaus story? The Picnic on the Beach? How do these stories enlighten you? How might these stories enlighten others and invite them to experience new life? We ve all had our own experiences that have shaped our faith and given us new life. What stories do you have to share? Come and share them with us at Hedding as we learn and grow in our faith together. Blessings! Pastor Kim

3 Page 3 Greetings Hedding Family, Spring is here and that means the Post Office Letter Carriers food collection (May 13th). As in past years we are in need of some volunteers to help us here at Hedding UMC food shelf. I am in need of a couple of drivers that can pick up the food at the post office and bring it to the church. I'm also in need of a couple of dock workers that can be at the post office helping to get the food on the truck. About people will be needed here at the church to help sort and put food on the shelves and in storage. This event starts about 11am, but I will need the dock workers and drivers by 9am. If you can only help for an hour or two that would be great. Those that can stay all day will be treated to a pizza lunch. Please let me know as soon as possible if you can help with this important ministry. I would like to thank Vermont Creamery for organizing a food drive that will be delivered on Friday, May 12th. Thank you, Phyllis Azotea, for heading this up. In line with the food shelf we also will need folks to volunteer helping with the community gardens in front of the church. We are always looking for people that like to cook for our Friday night community suppers. If interested please let me or Pastor Kim know. Grace and Peace; Rev. Renny Hedding has been chosen AGAIN for the Hannaford Cause Bag program! During the month of May, for each Fight Hunger Reusable Bag sold at the Hannaford store located at 456 South Barre Road, Barre, VT., Hedding United Methodist Church will receive $.25!
4 Page 4 Leona N. Garback, 86, of Barre, Vermont, died April 20, 2017, with peace and grace at home with her loving family and caregivers by her side. Immediate family survivors include her loving husband of 65 years, Rudolph Milan Garback; two daughters, Sue Garback-Morton, of Barre, husband Robert Morton and their two sons, Jeff and Eric, and Gloria Garback, of Essex Junction, close friend Randy Parker, and Gloria's daughter Alison Cooley. Other family members include Leona's sister, Jeanette Culver and husband Jim of Lebanon, New Hampshire, as well as other family relations, including numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her feline companion, Oliver, who was always by her side until the end of her life. He continues to sleep where he always has and will miss her as we all will. Leona was born at home in Calais on March 26, 1931, daughter of Robert Converse and Alice Slayton Converse. She grew up on the Converse farm, riding her horse to school daily, something she enjoyed doing for many years. She graduated from Montpelier High School in She met her lifelong sweetheart, Rudy, during her senior year. They eventually married on Sept. 28, 1952, at the Old West Church in Calais. Leona and Rudy lived many years on Barre Street in Montpelier. During that time, they had their two daughters, Susan and Gloria. They eventually purchased the Alpine Motel in 1969 and ran that until they sold it in 1987 and built their home in Barre where they had resided since. Leona worked most of her life as a secretary for the Vermont State American Legion headquarters in Montpelier. She worked hard, managing the motel, working and raising her children. She was an active member of the Rural Carriers Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary and Hedding Methodist Church. Favorite times for Leona were spending time at the family camp in Lake Elmore, going out dancing with Rudy and friends and travelling to Florida during the winter months for many years. She also loved playing piano, gardening, cooking, knitting and animals, of which she had many over the years. Her main priority, however, was caring for her husband and daughters, and later, spending time and spoiling her granddaughter, Ali. A natural gift Leona had was her kindness and being a natural caregiver to others, from injured birds she and Rudy would rescue, to family and friends. On Sunday April 23, we welcomed two new members to our congregation: Cynthia Green and Joyce Rowe. Cindy has been worshiping with us for a few years now and sings in the choir. She helps with the annual Christmas Dinner and at Chicken Pie Supper. Cindy lives in East Montpelier with her husband Donn Melcher. Joyce grew up in central Vermont and attended many churches over the years but was never baptized. She was baptized on Sunday and took her membership vows. Joyce is a widow and lives in Montpelier. Her friend Dorothy Lamb invited her to church last year and she has been faithfully attending worship. Dorothy Lamb sponsored both Cindy and Joyce, promising, along with the congregation, to support them and hold them accountable on their journey of faith. A meeting of the Vermont District UMW was scheduled for Saturday April 1, 2017 in West Danville. Ten ladies from Hedding planned to attend but unfortunately the event was cancelled due to bad weather. A fall meeting will be held at the Grace Methodist Church in Essex Jct. The next meeting of the HUMW will be at Monday May 8 th at 6:30pm. We welcome visitors and new members!

John 21:15-19 Hedding is operating a food shelf twice a week on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3-5 pm and with the down turn in the economy we have been serving more and more families. If everyone could bring in at least one canned food item a week, it wouldn t take long to fill our shelves. Spaghetti sauce, tuna, peanut butter and canned fruit are some of the things we need most. So as you shop for yourself, please pick up an extra can for our food shelf. Remember, every little bit helps! Thank you and God bless, Rev.
