Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me "Let There Be Peace on Earth" Jill Jackson and Sy Miller The UM Hymnal, No. 431 Hedding Herald Volume 34, Issue 3 November 2018 Dear Friends, These words have been running through my mind the past few weeks as we ve been overwhelmed with news of hate crimes. I feel so helpless, but when I stop and think about the words of this beloved folk song, I realize that peace does begin with me, and also with you. At our interfaith vigil following the attack on members of the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, we were reminded that we each have a responsibility to stop the hateful rhetoric that has become all too common place these days. It may be awkward and uncomfortable, but we must say something. Many people simply repeat what they ve heard without realizing that when they do, they may be engaging in hate speech. So please grant me grace in the coming days as I begin naming what I hear and suggesting there are other ways to speak about our differences and work together towards peace. This is not simply a matter of politics or preference, this is about how we respect one another despite and because of our differences. God created each and every one of us in God s image. Let s remember that. 3 November 2018 Page 3 Greetings Hedding UMC family, Well now that the chicken pie supper is over we can start polishing our snow shovels. November usually brings colder weather and that WHITE STUFF! With that in mind please remember those folks who can not find shelter during the cold nights because of past issues. I understand the Hedding United Methodist women will be collecting warm socks, hats and mittens to give to the folks that are trying to stay warm. So please give as you can. Also any donation of cranberry sauce, turkey gravy, green beans and instant mashed potatoes would help us provide some holiday fixings to our food shelf guests. Soups and pasta sauce are always in demand during the colder weather so any donation would be a blessing. 4 November 2018 Page 4 The HUMW will reconvene on Monday, November 12 th at 6:30. We will be meeting in room 3 at the church. Cooler weather is here and we will be putting together some no sew fleece blankets. No experience necessary! Come join us for a fun evening with a great group of ladies. The HUMW has been taken off the regular rotating schedule of the Friday night dinners. Marie M., Cindy G., Dorothy L. will be working on them every six weeks and anyone interested in assisting will be welcome. Please see or call Marie MacDougall. The next dinner date will be Friday, November 23 rd. Cooler and damp/rainy weather means wet cold feet for those that are homeless. We are again asking for donations of women and men s warm socks. Donations of hats and mittens would also be appreciated! There will be a box in Epworth hall for all donations. Dear Hedding Family, What a delightful surprise to come to worship on October 14th and discover a cake and card of appreciation! It touched my heart deeply. I only wish there were a "Congregation Appreciation Month" so I could celebrate you and the many ways you minister to each other and the community. It is an honor and a blessing to be your pastor. John 21:15-19 Hedding Bread of Life Community Food Shelf Hedding is operating a food shelf twice a week on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3-5 pm, and with the down turn in the economy we have been serving more and more families. If everyone could bring in at least one canned food item a week, it wouldn t take long to fill our shelves. Spaghetti sauce, tuna, peanut butter and canned fruit are some of the things we need most. So as you shop for yourself, please pick up an extra can for our food shelf. Remember, every little bit helps! Thank you and God bless, Rev. Renny Alfeo Al Brusetti, 96, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2018 at the Woodridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Berlin. Al served in the Air Force for 5 years active duty, then an additional 21 years in the Reserves. Al was a master shape carver in the Barre Granite industry, originating the Deep Rose carving in stone in the 1950 s. Al married his wife Doris in Hedding UMC and they have been longtime members. Al was a longtime leader of Boy Scout Troop 95 in Barre and was recognized many times by the Green Mountain Council for his dedication and instrumental leadership in these boys lives. A service to honor and celebrate Al s life was held on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. Daylight Savings Time Ends November 4! Don t forget to set your clocks back one hour on Saturday night, November 3. Please extend your sympathies to Al s wife Doris, and their children Carl, Richard, and Carolyn Brusetti. He also leaves behind two grandsons, a granddaughter, and four great grandchildren. Memorial contributions in Al s name may be
