Our Saturday volunteer, Mr. Dan Flynn, wrote to me about his conversation with Mark and Linda Brown of Mercer during their visit to the Memorial and Heritage Center on June 3. Mr. Flynn provided me with Mercere's Memorial Day web site which I have just perused. It is heartwarming to find an entire community that still appreciates what America's armed forces' personnel have sacrificed to ensure our liberty and to bring liberty to other nations in this world. Thank you, Mercer, for an excellent tribute to all these fine men and women. Arlington, VA jhsheffield@comcast.net Daniel Flynn Sunday, 6/4/06, 8:25 AM I volunteer at the United States Navy Memorial in Washington, DC and while on watch on Saturday the 3rd of June I had the happy occasion to meet Mark and Linda Brown, who told me of your attemts to keep Memorial Day alive in the minds of the people, especially the young ones. I applaud your efforts and invite the whole town of Mercer to come visit us at the Memorial. We are located on the nations main street, Pennsylvania Ave., halfway between the White House and the Capitol, across from the National Archives. Look for our run as it will come through Mercer that day also, because of our own local losses. We will be holding an event for our local heroes who have paid the ultimate Price for Freedom and all the others along the way. Their Families will be honored also while we are here. Please do come out and support this event, it is the least we all can do to show our support to "Our Fallen Heroes and Thier Families". Thank you for your support of our troops and our veterans. Thank you for putting the time and effort into helping us remember the sacrifices of our predecessors. In today's controversy over the events in Iraq, many Americans have forgotten the veterans who have kept our homeland safe and our ideals alive throughout the years. Whatever your feelings about the Iraq war, it is important to remember who bought your freedom with their own lives.
