(Luke 1:30-35) Once a boy opened a big box under the Christmas tree and found a life-sized Action Figure. When sat upright it was taller than the boy. Later, his parents noticed that the figure was lying on the side, while their son played with the oversized box. Many of us, like this boy, do the same at Christmas; we become distracted by the wrapping and discard the Focal Action Figure! In Gabriel s announcement to Mary, let s focus on four things about the focal figure : 1. His name JESUS (v.31) is Greek for Joshua which means Jehovah saves or Salvation of Yahweh. In His name we see the suffering He would endure, the salvation He would bring, and the splendor He would display. The name JESUS speaks of His mission to seek and save the lost! (v.33) 4. His nativity Is one of Christianity s deepest and holiest mysteries! Jesus was born through divine conception", without any human intervention! It was through a virgin who knew no man! (v.34). Gabriel explains: The Holy Ghost will come upon you, the power of the Highest shall overshadow you and He shall be called the Son of God! (v.35). Let us not forget or discard the Baby born at night, whose purpose was to shine in darkness with God s love, giving His life to bring, ON EARTH PEACE, (and), GOODWILL TOWARD MEN! (Luke 2:14).
