Lee Banks, Superintendent Pastor s Reflection WHEN LOVE DISCIPLINES...his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not. Samuels 3:13 Today discipline is a touchy subject! The common belief and legislative laws says hitting and in some cases even touching a child can lead to legal action which may include jail time!! I believe we have confused discipline with abuse! A child needs to be chastened, punished, spanked or whipped when they have disobeyed! Some type of action that corrects bad behavior needs to be taken, however, some of us have conviently called it time out! This should not be taken to the extreme of physically injuring the child, but things like denying certain privileges, TV., online activities and etc.! Discipline must begin at home in love! In the text, Eli was a good man who served God and his people as a priest. But, he failed to discipline his own children. He knew his sons were doing wrong, and he restrained them not! When we fail to restrain our children from bullying, cussing, disrespect, lying, or stealing, it not only affects the child but also society! These actions can lead to jail time or the morgue! Eli s failure to restrain his sons is a forewarning for us and all generations to come because judgment and doom came to Eli the Priest, his family and the nation of Israel! Look at the condition of our nation, not to mention the world!! Today instead of parents restraining their children- the children are filing restraining orders on their parents! That is a Godly shame! God is concerned with the discipline of our children! And the true motive of Christian discipline is love! Heb. 12:6-8 (NIV) tells us the lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastens everyone who accepts his son..if you are not disciplined, then you are not true sons and daughters at all. There is no love that does not include discipline! Our children know when they are loved! They know the love of their parents does not end with discipline! Later they will recognize your love for them! 1 Cor 13, says love never fails! Last weekend the theme of our Family and Friends Weekend (fantastic time) was We are Family Well a part of being a solid family unit involves discipline. When done in love our families unite and communities stand strong; let s demonstrate this type of love to our children! Dr. Dale A. Lawson, Sr., Pastor Deaconess Elaine Harris, Asst. Superintendent

USHERS ANNIVERSARY The CTBC Ushers will be celebrating their 58th Anniversary on Sunday, September 17th at 3:30 p.m. Their theme is Willing to Do Service for the Lord Ephesians 6:7 Our own Rev. Craig Wilson will bring a dynamic message and your presence in requested. Please plan to come out and support the Ushers on this very special day. Sis. Gwenn Jackson, President Sickle Cell Disease is an inherited red blood cell disorder that causes the shape of the cells to change and become shaped like a crescent moon or sickle. Having this disease means a lifelong battle against the health problems it can cause such as pain, infections, anemia, and stroke. By learning proper management, people are able to live a very good quality of life. CHURCH COVENANT HAVING been led, as we believe by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, we do now in the presence of God, angels, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ. WE ENGAGE THEREFORE, by the aid of the Holy Spirit to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this church, in knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations. WE ALSO ENGAGE to maintain family and secret devotion; to educate our children religiously; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger; we engage to abstain from all drugs, food, drink and practices which bring unwarranted harm to the body or jeopardize ours or another s faith. WE FURTHER ENGAGE to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember each other in prayer; to aid each other in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, and mindful of the rules of our Savior, to secure it without delay. WE MOREOVER ENGAGE that, when we remove from this place, we will as soon as possible unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God s Word. And now unto him, who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, be Power and Glory forever. Amen

Our focus will be on self-control and managing our emotions Galatians 5:22-23 reminds us that as Christian women we are responsible for our responses as we interact with one another (And the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance, against such there is no law). We will continue with the Women of Faith series, using the study guide Managing your Moods, foreword by Mary Graham. There is a limited supply so if you are interested please secure a copy by signing the list located in the Davis Library.
