A SPECIAL WELCOME TO OUR GUESTS: We extend a warm welcome from Bethel Presbyterian Church! We are glad you have chosen to worship with us this Christmas Eve. May you experience the warmth and love of Christ on this special night. When we pray the Lord s Prayer, we say sins sin against us rather than debts... or trespasses

P: To us is born this day in the city of David a Savior, the Messiah, the Lord. L: This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped in cloth and lying in a manger. P: Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace!
Lighting of the Advent Candles Reader 1: We light the Christ candle to symbolize God s promise fulfilled. Reader 2: For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace to all on whom his favor rests. All: Blessed be the name of the Lord. Prayer of Invocation Let us pray: Living God, on this holy night we gather to stand with shepherds, amazed at your glory; to sing with angels, rejoicing in your work; to wait with Joseph, trusting in your promise; to sit with Mary, cradling your love. May the good news of the night inspire us to tell the world of our great joy: for to us is born a Savior, the Messiah, the Lord. Glory and praise to you forever! Amen. * Hymn No. 119 HARK! THE HERALD ANGELS SING MENDELSSOHN * Call to Confession In Jesus Christ our Lord the grace of God has appeared, bring light to us all. With confidence and joy, let us confess our sin. * Corporate Prayer of Confession Great and glorious God, through Jesus Christ our Savior you have shown us that the blessed age of grace has appeared and the hoped-for time of salvation has come. Yet we cling to the glories of the present age
worldly passions and impious pursuits, self-indulgent, crooked, and ungodly ways. We choose to walk in darkness, unwilling to see the evil your light exposes. Cleanse us and free us; break the yoke we choose to carry through Christ, who gave himself for us, so that we might be your people, holy and whole. Amen. * Sung Response No. 551 LORD, HAVE MERCY LAND OF REST Lord, have mer-cy; Christ, have mer-cy; Lord, have mer-cy up-on us. Lord, have mer-cy; Christ, have mer-cy; Lord, have mer-cy up-on us. * Declaration of Forgiveness Hear this good news of great joy; in Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Thanks be to God! * Response: Refrain from ANGELS WE HAVE HEARD ON HIGH Glo---ri-a in ex-cel-sis De--o! Glo---ri-a in ex-cel-sis De--o! ANTIOCH Joy to the world, the Lord is come! Let earth re-ceive her King; let ev-ery heart pre-pare him room, and heaven and na-ture sing, and heaven and na-ture sing, and heaven, and heaven and na-ture sing. * Prayer of Dedication Let us pray: We give you thanks, Holy One, for the world of wonder you have made forest and field, sea and sky, and for the gift of grace that you have given a little child, lying in a manger. Receive these gifts of tenderness and love, of gratitude and praise, and use them for your glory; in the name of Jesus Christ, the child of Bethlehem, we pray. Amen. Invitation The Great Prayer of Thanksgiving The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God, It is right to give our thanks and praise. How can we thank you, O God? For sun and moon and stars, for breath and life and all things good, for your steadfast promise and your faithful love, for the day that is surely coming when all things will be made new. With saints, with angels, and with the whole creation, we join the ancient and eternal hymn: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. We give you thanks, Holy God, for Jesus, who came to be your living Word, to baptize us with Spirit and fire, to feed the hungry, to humble the mighty, and to announce the good news of your coming realm. With thanks and praise we offer ourselves to you, sharing this holy meal, remembering Christ s dying and rising, and praying: Come Lord Jesus! Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again. Pour out your Holy Spirit upon us this bread, this cup, these people Christ s body and blood, given in love for the world. Make us one in the Spirit, one in the church, and one with Christ our Lord.
Make us gentle, joyful, thankful people, serving our neighbors, worshipping you alone. Keep us in the peace of Christ until you gather us at your table in glory. Through Christ, with Christ, in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor are yours, almighty God, now and forever. Amen. The Lord s Prayer (sins/ sin against us) Words of Institution Distribution of the Elements Prayer after Communion Let us pray: God of grace and peace, as you have shared your life with us through the child in the manger and this simple meal together, let us share your life with others as the body of Christ in the world; through Jesus, bread of heaven. Amen. Hymn No. 122 SILENT NIGHT, HOLY NIGHT STILLE NACHT As the music plays, a candle lighter will come to the end of your pew. The candle of the first worshiper in each row will be lit and they will light the candle of the person next to them, in that way the light of Christ is passed from person to person. (To avoid spilling hot wax, please keep your candle upright allowing the person next to you to light their candle.)
After all the candles are lit, we will stand to sing Silent Night * Si-lent night, ho-ly night! All is calm, all is bright, Round yon vir-gin moth-er and child! Ho-ly In-fant, so ten-der and mild, Sleep in heav-en-ly peace, Sleep in heav-en-ly peace. Si-lent night, ho-ly night! Shep-herds quake at the sight, Glo-ries stream from heav-en a-far, Heaven-ly hosts sing: Al-le-lu-ia; Christ the Sav-ior is born, Christ the Sav-ior is born. Si-lent night, ho-ly night! Son of God, love s pure light Ra-diant beams from Thy ho-ly face, With the dawn of re-deem-ing grace, Je-sus, Lord at Thy birth, Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth. Si-lent night, ho-ly night! Won-drous star, lend thy light; With the an-gels let us sing, Al-le-lu-ia to our King; Christ the Sav-ior is born, Christ the Sav-ior is born. * Benediction Go into the night, glorifying and praising God for all you have seen and heard. May Christ be your light, this night and forevermore. * Benediction Response GO, TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN African-American spiritual Go, tell it on the moun tain, o-ver the hills and ev-ery-where; go, tell it on the moun-tain that Je-sus Christ is born! Down in a low-ly man-ger the hum-ble Christ was born, and God sent us sal-va-tion that bless-ed Christ-mas morn. Go, tell it on the moun tain, o-ver the hills and ev-ery-where; go, tell it on the moun-tain that Je-sus Christ is born!
* Postlude At the conclusion of the Benediction, please extinguish your candle and deposit the candle/holder in the receptacle in the Gathering Area May the peace and joy of this Christmas night go with you!
