2 Zion News monthly - June W. 8th St Davenport IA page 2 From the Pastor.. Lord, Jesus, you shall by my song as I journey; I ll tell everybody about you wherever I go: you alone are our life and our peace and our love. Lord Jesus, you shall be my song as I journey. ELW# 808 The next several weeks of our church year will be the Sundays after Pentecost. This year on June 8 th, the day of Pentecost, we will be welcoming four young people through their Affirmation of Baptism. In that rite we will hear them promise to continue in God s covenant, wherever they go. Each one of us can renew our baptism with them, promising to: live among God s people, hear the Word and share in the Lord s Supper, proclaim the good news, serve all people, and to strive for justice and peace, wherever we go. Living these promises is how the Christian tells everybody about Jesus. Renewing our baptismal promise will be a great way to send us into the summer months. Many of us will have family reunions, vacations, day trips, fishing outings, camp weeks in these next three months. These days offer us additional opportunities to tell everybody about the one who is our life, our peace and our love. Wherever this summer finds you, there will be someone who longs to hear the song of Jesus. The power of the Spirit will tune up your voices, stretch out your hands, strengthen your feet, and open your hearts so that Jesus will be your song on your journey. While you are here at home we will be singing Jesus as our song in worship every Sunday at 9:00 a.m. Come and join us! and from our Synod Assembly Delegates... Dear Zion family, With the theme Led by the Spirit, the 2014 SE Iowa Synod Assembly was held May 30l June 1 in Coralville IA.
