We have gone on an expotition with Pooh and then met gloomy old Eeyore. Now we are going to visit a while with every child's favorite tiger, Tigger. Tiggers are wonderful creatures, because as you know tiggers BOUNCE! The wonderful thing about Tiggers is Tiggers are wonderful things. Their tops are made out of rubber, their bottoms are made out of springs. When Tigger first comes to the 100-acre wood, he shows up howling in the middle of the night at Pooh's house. Pooh asks him to be quiet and sleep and in the morning he could have a bowl of honey. Tigger said, "That's what tiggers like best!" But in the morning, when Tigger tastes the honey, it turns out that tiggers don't like honey after all. So Pooh and Tigger walk over to Piglet's house to munch on some of Piglet's favorite food - haycorns (acorns). Well Pooh walks Tigger bounces. Tigger says, "Haycorns that's what tiggers like best!" But when he tastes a haycorn, he finds out that tiggers don't like haycorns after all. Right away, we learn that although Tigger may not be the sharpest tack in the box, he is always happy, always positive, always confident. He's hungry, but that doesn't keep him from bouncing. 3 August 26 Pentecost 14 - will be another joint service with Stony Plain United at Stony Plain. This will be a unique Paper-bag Communion service. Please come and join in the worship experience. Service begins at 10:30 am. Walk In Policy St. Andrew s now has a policy which applies to how we provide assistance to Walk Ins. (those individuals who come into the church looking for a helping hand) We will collect gift cards. We will avoid giving out cash. We are looking for gift cards for the following: Gas Grocery Stores Restaurants Boston Pizza, TIMs, McDonalds, A&W, and the like. If you wish to donate cash, we will purchase needed gift cards. 4 Family Ministry Coordinator Katilynn has submitted her resignation as Family Ministry Coordinator effective immediately. She is returning to school in the fall and will be helping out in our Sunday School program in a volunteer capacity only. We are thankful and appreciative of the services she has provided and wish her well as she pursues her career. 5 Coffee and Conversation Many of us enjoy the coffee and conversation after church. This is done with the assistance of volunteers who set up the coffee ahead of time and more volunteers who do the clean up. Summer is here and we are serving lemonade and cookies in the Narthex. So, it s even easier for you to stay and visit. Volunteers are needed to keep this going. Please consider sharing your time and talents with this favourite form of fellowship. Please check the HUB (Narthex volunteer board) where our roster sign-up is posted. Any questions our contact person is Margo McGann. Thank you for your support. Pastoral Care Taking Care of the Flock Our team of Lay Pastoral Visitors on the Pastoral Care Committee is always trying our best to keep track of the St. Andrew s flock, but sometimes we miss out on important news about members and friends. If you are aware of happenings that you think our pastoral care team could respond to, you can pass on the news (in confidence) to Rev. 7 The Rev. Richard Bott Elected 43rd Moderator of the United Church The United Church of Canada has elected the Rev. Richard Bott, 49, from Vancouver as its 43rd Moderator from a field of 10 nominees. Meeting in Oshawa, ON, over 300 commissioners (delegates) from across the country gathered to decide on a wide range of church business that included the election of the Moderator, who will be the church s spiritual leader for the next three years. The Rev. Bott recently served as the minister for Pacific Spirit United Church in Vancouver and was in the process of moving to a new congregation. But that changes now that he has been elected Moderator, which is a full-time position in the church. Born in Marathon, ON, the Rev. Bott has served churches in Ontario and British Columbia. He is well known for his skills as a leader, writer, and educator. An early adopter of social media, he manages a Facebook group of over 700 United Church ministers. Looking ahead to the next three years, the Rev. Bott says, I am excited about the possibilities that are in front of the church and hopeful that we are going to live into them together. Unlike leaders in other denominations, the Moderator does not set policy or doctrine. Those decisions are arrived at by committees of clergy and lay people in the church who bring them to one of the triennial General Council meetings, where they are voted on by people chosen from all regions of Canada and from Bermuda.
