1 Trip 1 Week 3 Dear Parents, Thank you to those of you who sought us out on visiting day. We so appreciate the opportunity to give you nachas reports in person and to receive feedback from your impressions. Sunday night we enjoyed a great illusionist performance with lots of camper participation! Monday, bunks 8-11 headed out on an orienteering experience, where they got to work together to find a way out of the 'wilderness.' Color war is here, color war is here!!! Red Aish! Blue- Mayim! Girls got to shine as they cheered and sang and flash mobbed. The 'Lifetime memories' competition gave our girls the opportunity to memorize brachos and tefillos to earn points for their teams. Lifeguards, Leah Steinberg and Miri Welz with TCs Sara Hartman and Batsheva Steinberg led the blue team with superb spirit and energy! Lifeguard, Aliza Feder and Sports counselor, Rochel Mandelbaum with TCs Eliana Antosovsky and Ilana Jacobson, led the red team with organized fabulousness to a narrow victory! Thursday was 'Spa day.' Relaxation abounded. The TCs were off to Palisades, and some of the older division struck out on a beautiful sunset hike which lasted into the wee hours of the morn. Friday had us dressing up as our favorite people, continuing the theme of 'Favorite things.' We're moving into the last full week of Trip one! So much to do...so little time!!!! As we enter into the Shabbos before Tisha B'av, we are reinforcing extra consideration. 'Warm Fuzzy' notes are overflowing as campers continue to take notice of outstanding kindnesses. 2 Cardio Fun Arielle Sheinbein The girls are getting really good at aerobics and pilates and definitely have more stamina and are able to do more moves. I love hearing how the activities inspired them to do the moves in the bunkhouse with their friends. Some girls can even touch their toes for the first time ~ what an accomplishment! We will keep pumping them up with exercise and stretching them out. They will be so much stronger when they come home! ** Sports Stars** Naomi Agbashoff GO RED GO!! Congratulations to the red team on winning color war this week. We had some great competitions this week between the blue team and the red team. We played kickball, softball, basketball, and had a great TC/ staff Machanayim game that was enjoyed by all. We had a camp wide apache relay race on the second day of color war!! ART STUDIO Renee Schneier Snap crackle pop! The electives completed their pop art paintings in bright vivid hues on canvas. While the younger bunks bead azzled themselves painting glass vases and beading colorful flowers to bloom inside. Next up duck, duck, duck goose? No, it s duck tape (duct tape, really) Drama Elana Greenspan ( Staff members are hard at work preparing a meaningful Cantata to put the camp in the proper frame of mind to observe Tisha B'Av. In the works are beautiful choirs, touching drama, and even stirring dances set to beats, all put together by our talented staff. The Wild Side Chaya Phillips On Monday, bunks Ches, Tes, Yud and Yud Aleph headed over to the Pocono Environmental Education Center to run their orienteering course. Each team worked together to navigate their way through the forest and locate the control marker. The winning time was 1 hour and 7 minutes! Everyone had a fun time. Thursday, as the bus entered Stokes State Forest, the campers in bunks yud bais and yud gimmel were anxious and excited as they waited to begin their Sunset Hike. After a challenging climb up the mountain trail, we were rewarded with a spectacular sunset. Everyone enjoyed a delicious grilled cheese sandwich dinner made on our campfire. We ended our day with yummy s mores and a kumzits.

3 Culinary Arts Director Naomi Nachman This week s featured recipe is brownies. The girls put in Oreos, chocolate chips, and sprinkles and when they were ready, frosted them with icing. For electives one of the groups helped develop and create a new recipe for us to use in camp - Garlic pull-apart bread. Brownies 2/3 cup oil 2/3 cup cocoa 4 eggs 1 ¾ cup sugar 1 tsp vanilla ½ tsp salt 1 tsp baking powder 1 cup flour Mix until smooth Pour into 9x13 pan Bake for 40 mins at 350 Top with whipped cream

5 PERSPECTIVES FROM CAMP MOM..cont d Being Camp Mom is quite like being a regular Mom, only a more intense, condensed version and for over 325+ girls. I love being here with your daughters and am genuinely honored to be your stand in for these few weeks. As with real parenting it is not without its challenges and tribulations. I have found some helpful guidelines while navigating these waters that I'd like to share with you. Our children's character is shaped by experiences with people and situations. Character education requires presence that demonstrates and contact that communicates. We want our children to be a mentsch, an individual with compassion, commitment and courage. A person whose life is guided by a core of strength and a code of fairness. - Dr. Haim Ginott (Between Parent & Teenager) 1 Parenting takes skill and practice. Girls come to me with many issues and concerns, all of which are normal and apropos in this setting, for their age and concerning peers. My role is to help facilitate their growth in navigating these situations and feelings. Guiding them to resolution themselves. Below are some approaches we use in these situations. 1. Be Aware of Your Own Feelings AND the feelings of Others 2. Show Empathy and Try to Understand Another Point of View 3. Keep Your Cool, Use Humor & Follow the Golden Rule (treat others as you want to be treated) 4. Be Positive and Be Goal & Plan Oriented 5. Use Your BEST Social Skill in Handling Situations (BEST = Body Posture, Eye Contact, Saying the Right Words, Tone of Voice Emotional Intelligence (also referred to as E.Q ) is a set of skills that we develop which leads us to greater mental and physical health, better academic and professional functioning and excellent social awareness. It is what we strive for in our adult lives and what we'd like our children to have as well. Have a Wonderful Shabbos and a meaningful easy fast.
