On one celebrated occasion, when God pronounced his own name, he repeating it in the hearing of Moses. Moses wrote an account of that event that has been preserved in the Bible down to our day. [Exodus 34:5] God even wrote his name with his own "finger." When he had given Moses what we today call the Ten Commandments or Decalogue, God miraculously wrote them down.the record says: "Now as soon as [God] had finished speaking with him on Mount Sinai he proceeded to give Moses two tablets of the Testimony, tablets of stone written on by God's finger." [Exodus 31:18] God's name appears eight times in the original Ten Commandments. [Exodus 20:1-17] Thus God himself has revealed his name to man both verbally and in writing. So, what is that name? Do Jehovah's Witnesses Really Have Respect for the Divine Name? God's name, represented by these four consonants, appears almost 7,000 times in the original "Old Testament," or Hebrew Scriptures. The name, according to the official Jehovah's Witness world wide web site, is a form of a Hebrew verb HA-VAH (He (#5) Vav (#6), He (#5) = #16 - Being a Guide/ Returning to the Root; I-Ching : H28 - Excess; Mystery : #75 - Failure), meaning "to cause to become" is the name Chavvah given to Eve as the 'Mother of all living things' and lifegiver as a derivation of "to live; by implication (intensively) to declare or show". Thus, God's name identifies him as the One who progressively fulfills his promises and unfailingly realizes his purposes. Only the true God could bear such a meaningful name. However, if one does mention a Divine name, the words are considered an oath even if one does not say that they are an oath. Therefore one should not say, B emeth (in truth) this is so, for Emeth is one of the names of God: "Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform your oaths to the Lord.' But I say to you, do not swear at all; neither by heaven, for it is God's throne; nor by the earth, for it is his footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. Nor shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black, but let your 'Yes' be 'Yes' and your 'No', 'No'. For whatever is more than these is from the evil one." [Matthew 5:3-37 (NKJV)] Why is an oath viewed with such awe? In essence, when someone makes oath, he is comparing the accuracy of the statement he has made to the truth of God s existence. Therefore if a person violates his oath it is as if he has denied God s very existence. For this reason, our Sages say that at Sinai, when God pronounced the prohibition of swearing falsely, the entire universe trembled." Here the thesis {ie. Yod (#10) = A} and synthesis {ie. Vav (#6) = M} are seen as opposites, representing tension and equilibrium. Antithesis {ie. He (#5) = U} is then the midpoint connecting the two. 5 And might, in the circumstance, be otherwise considered equivalent in form to the philosophy of Number/TAO {ie. I CHING, TAO TE CHING or T'AI HSUAN CHING} as Decade and Kabbalistic Tetragrammatic (& Hexagram) Yin/Yang metathesis. [Revelation 13:16-18] Why We Must Know God's Name "Everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah will be saved." [Romans 10:13] With these words the apostle Paul stressed how vital it is for us to know God's name. His statement brings us back to our original question: Why did Jesus put the 'hallowing,' or 'sanctifying,' of God's name at the very beginning of his Model Prayer, ahead of so many other important matters? To understand this, we need to grasp a little better the meanings of two key words. First, what does the word 'hallow,' or 'sanctify,' really mean? Literally it means: "to make holy." But is not God's name already holy? Of course it is. When we sanctify God's name, we do not make it more holy than it is. Rather we recognize it as holy, set it apart, hold it in the highest esteem. When we pray for God's name to be sanctified, we are looking forward to the time when all creation will respect it as holy. 'Knowing God's name' means more than merely having head knowledge of the fact that his name is Jehovah Second, exactly what is the implication of the word "name"? We have seen that God has a name, Jehovah, and that his name appears thousands of times in the Bible. We have discussed, too, the importance of restoring that name to its rightful place in the Bible text. If the name is not there, how can the psalmist's words be fulfilled: "Those knowing your name will trust in you, for you will certainly not leave those looking for you, O Jehovah." [Psalm 9:10] But does 'knowing God's name' involve merely an intellectual knowledge that God's name in Hebrew is YHWH, or in English, Jehovah? No, it means more than that. When Moses was in Mount Sinai, "Jehovah proceeded to come down in the cloud and station himself with [Moses] there and declare the name of Jehovah." What did this declaring of the name of Jehovah entail? A description of his qualities: "Jehovah, Jehovah, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abundant in loving-kindness and truth." [Exodus 34:5, 6] Again, shortly before his death, Moses said to the Israelites: "I shall declare the name of

6 Jehovah." What followed? Mention of some of His grand attributes, and then a review of what God had accomplished toward Israel for the sake of His name. [Deuteronomy 32:3-43] Hence, knowing God's name means learning what that name represents and worshiping the God who possesses it. [cf: Why We Must Know God's Name, Jehovah's Witnesses Official Web Site] The Pythagorean (c BCE), also seeing they could not clearly explain the first Forms and Principles in discourse (those being the most difficult to understand and express) had recourse to Numbers for the better explication of their Doctrine, imitating the Geometricans recourse to a description of figures. Pythagoras therefore advocated two forms of Number Theory. The Sciential whereby even and odd numbers are understood to be expressive of three insensible principles and the Intellectual or Onomantick kind of Arithmetic which assigned particular number to the sun, moon and visible planets (which Pythagoras regarded as Gods), letters of the Alphabet, days of the week and signs of the zodiac. Which comprised the eternal substance of Number as the notion of God and the principle most Providential of all Heaven and Earth and the nature that is betwixt them: "For if the Nature of the Unverse be defined according to the Reasons and Proportions of Numbers; and that which is produced, and increased, and perfected, proceed according to the Reasons of Numbers; and the Decad comprehends every Reason of Number, and every Proportion, and all Species: Why should not Nature itself be termed by the Name of Ten, the most perfect Number? Hitherto Moderatus." [Thomas Stanley 1970, Pythagoras, His Life & Teachings -- Ninth Section of the 1687 CE Edition of The History of Philosophy, 524] Whilst Philo of Alexandria, in 'De Opificio Mundi' (On the Creation) subscribes to an equivalent Pythagorean Onomantick view of Number and deploys compatible terminology when he ascribes to the first day of Creation the appellation of 'LIMIT'. That when 'Moses says also 'in the beginning God created the heaven and the earth' he is here taking the beginning to be, not as some men think, that which is according to time, but rather according to number--that 'In the beginning he created' is equivalent to 'first of all he created the heaven'. [Philo, De Opificio Mundi, para 26-27] He understands it according to Number where each is comprised of a Tetragrammic hierarchy comprising constituent elements. And therefore in terms of a practical rhetorical syllogism (viz. Kant's major premise: Yang/Heaven/Male/Form; minor premise: Yin/Earth/Female/Matter; and the conclusion: Zhun/Sea/Son/Offspring--as representing an understanding of the canonical law of Nature. Whereby in expressing existing things suggests 'the odd number is male (being formative of the substance as seed), and the even number is the female (who receives it); accordingly, of odd numbers the first is the number three, and of even numbers the first is two.' [Philo, De Opificio Mundi, para 13] From the enigmatic and symbolical use of numbers proceeded a multiplicitious variety of names, attributed to them by Pythagoras and his followers as the cosmological basis for a system of world governance: "By Number Pythagoras understands the Mind--a Symbol not improper--in Incorporeals nothing more Divine than the Mind, in Abstractions nothing more simple than Number. The Divine Essence therefore, existent before AEvum (Eternity) and Age, (for it is the Age of Ages) the pre-existent entity and unity of existence, substance, essence, nature, was by Pythagoreans called 'one'" or LIMIT. [John Reuchlin ( CE)] Pythagoras assigned to number ordinals a 'HETEROS hymeneal mystical and symbolic based dialectical interpretation, rather than the alternative homoiotic {ie.
