1 We are going to read through and study the entire old testament in one school years time. We will plan on 180 days of instruction, Monday through Friday. We will start in the beginning and read through the entire old testament this year. Every day we will also read one chapter of Psalms and then one chapter of Proverbs subsequently. Here is a summary of the book of Psalms: The book of Psalms is a collection of songs and poems that represent century s worth of praises and prayers to God on numerous different circumstances and themes. The book of Psalms is the longest book in the Bible. David is the author of 73 different psalms. His son, Solomon wrote two of them. Moses wrote another one. The additional authors were priests or Levites who were responsible for providing music for sanctuary worship during David s reign. Here is a summary of the book of Proverbs: The book was written to teach wisdom to God s people. Proverbs are short clever explanations which are easy to remember. King Solomon is the principal writer of Proverbs. The book is filled with wisdom for many different situations in life: personal conduct, sexual relations, business, wealth, charity, ambition, discipline, debt, child-rearing, character, alcohol, politics, revenge, and godliness. Knowledge is nothing more than the accumulation of facts, but wisdom is the ability to see people, events, and situations through the eyes of God. He reveals the mind of God in numerous situations of life. Here is a summary of the first book of the bible: Genesis Genesis is the first book of the Law and also the first book of the entire Bible. It was written by Moses. It was written to record God s creation of the world and to demonstrate his love for all that He created. It begins with early mankind and will go into the Period of Patriarchs beginning with Abraham. 1
