3 In the Name of Allah, The Beneficent, The Most Merciful Dear Parents: INTRODUCTION Welcome to the new school year at the AIA Weekend Islamic School. We are committed to provide quality Islamic education and excellent services to your children. We are excited to build on our successes from the past by implementing what worked best for us and learning lessons from our mistakes. We have a very competent group of dedicated teachers who are willing to offer their services despite constraints of their social and family obligations. Please note that children 5 years old and above on September 1, 2017 will be enrolled in school. Please note this year school will be starting on Sunday, September 17 th. Please fill out the Enrollment form and return to AIA by August 20, It can be mailed in or dropped in the AIA School black drop-box outside the Main Office door. Please note that enrollment after that date will include a late fee of $100 per family, and only if space is available. We expect the parents and students to take AIA School seriously. We will be implementing strict rules in the School to keep discipline and achieve high standard of education. We expect to start each class on time. It is the parents responsibility to bring their child to the School on time. Tardiness by more than ten minutes will result in denial of attendance to the class and those students will be sent to the Principal s office. Attendance is absolutely necessary for children to keep a sense of commitment to the Islamic School. Regular attendance helps in continuity and keeps the children focused on topics under discussion. If the student is absent for more than three days, without permission, a disciplinary action will be taken against the student. Children must be picked up by their parents within ten minutes of completion of Dhuhr prayers. Children are expected to observe Islamic dress code and show Islamic code of conduct while on AIA premises. Children must remain in the compound during School hours and go to the class at its start time. Students are expected to respect the teachers and elders. Eating and drinking is allowed only in the banquet hall dining area. Abusive language, running or littering in the hallways and class rooms are all prohibited. No disruptive behavior will be tolerated from students. All boys and girls are expected to remain silent in the prayer hall and not to run around. Students are expected to turn in all homework assignments on time. Parents are encouraged to work with their children ahead of the classes and work with them after the classes. Homework assignments will be counted in the grade determination. Parents are requested to inquire children about their home work. Disciplinary action will be taken if the assignments are not completed on time. Student are expected to bring all required materials to the class. This is especially applicable to bringing class materials distributed by teachers, and their own pen, pencils, note books etc. Textbooks will be supplied to the students on the first day of school. We look forward to welcoming our new and returning students to our school, where the school motto is: Excellence in Education, Worship and Character! May Allah reward you! Sincerely, Abdul Khalique, Ph.D. Principal Khalid Mozaffar Associate Principal Effective 09/01/2017 Page 3

4 Attendance AIA WEEKEND SCHOOL POLICIES Attendance is absolutely necessary for children to keep a sense of commitment to the Islamic School. Regular attendance helps in continuity and keeps the children focused on topics under discussion. If a student is absent for more than three days, without permission, a disciplinary action will be taken against the student. Tardiness Each class is expected to start on time. It is the parents responsibility to bring their child to the School on time. Tardiness by more than ten minutes will result in disciplinary action. Late comers will be sent to the Principal's office and required to get a permission slip to enter the class. Security and Safety of Students Students must remain in the AIA compound during school hours and go to their classes at its time. Front door will be locked a few minutes after the start of school hours and will remain locked for most of the time. Anyone arriving late after the doors have locked will have to buzz in at the entrance and someone in the office will unlock the door for the student/visitor to enter. Students will be allowed to play outside under the supervision of adults during lunch break. Students must be picked up by their parents within 10 minutes of completion of Dhuhr prayers (around 1:50 pm). No student will be allowed to go outside and wait for the ride. Parents must come inside the building from front door to pick up their child. Home Work Each student is expected to turn all homework assignments on time. Parents are requested to work with their children to get the assignment completed. Homework assignment will be counted in the grade determination. Disciplinary action will be taken if assignments are not completed on time. Class Supplies Every student is expected to bring all required materials to the class. This is especially applicable to bringing class materials distributed by teachers, pen, pencils, note books etc. Teachers will advise students regarding books and other reading material. It is preferred that students take notes in class and make a separate section for each class in a spiral note book. Weather Emergencies In cases of inclement weather of serious nature, principal will announce cancellation of classes for the day. The teachers will make every effort to catch up with the scheduled material for the canceled class. Emergency Drills The School will conduct emergency drills once or twice a year to train the staff and students what to do in case of an emergency. There will be three types of drills. In case of a TORNADO, everyone will be sent to the basement Banquet Hall. In case of a FIRE, everyone will be trained to evacuate the building and head outside to the Safety Gathering Area near the picnic area. For INTRUDER LOCKDOWN situation, everyone will be trained to hide inside their own class rooms. Effective 09/01/2017 Page 4

5 Competitions AIA Student Handbook In order to keep the parents abreast of their children's progress, stimulate learning and motivate students, competitions will be held from time to time and prizes will be awarded to the winning group of students. Examinations Mid-term and final examinations will be given to students to test their learning. All major exams will be preannounced but pop quizzes will be given unannounced to test ongoing learning and retention of knowledge. Complaints and Questions If a situation occurs where a parent feels something wrong has been done, they are encouraged to talk to teachers first if it is a direct class related problem but if the problem is concerning the system itself, they should discuss the problem with the principal. All concerns, misunderstandings or miscommunication problems must be resolved in an Islamic way without involving persons not concerned with the issue. Personal egos, unhealthy competition, or desire to control events must be avoided under all circumstances. This code of conduct is expected from students, teachers, parents and all those involved with the Islamic school. Parents Involvement Parents participation is very important in their children's activities. Parents interaction with their children outside the classroom helps them to do better in the school. Please do not simply drop off your child and expect everything will be taken care of. If you have any suggestion or comments regarding school, please send them to the principals in writing. Dress Code AIA Islamic school is an institution dedicated to teach our children Islamic morals, manners and personal conduct. It is important that we follow strict Islamic guidelines to achieve these objectives. Students are required to adhere to the Islamic dress code.
