2 INTRODUCTION At Noor Academy Sunday School, it is our objective to provide a healthy and rewarding learning environment for Muslims students. The school will meet once a week, nine months a year. If summed up, it amounts to about thirty days of classes in a year. Within this short time, we are committed to do the best to provide a sound Islamic education. Our children are growing up in the U.S, as Muslim Americans, and are facing diverse challenges and conflicting pressures at schools and in friend circles. They are constantly influenced by mainstream youth culture. Excessive consumerism, peer pressure, media culture, Internet, and technology confuse the youngsters minds about their ideal objectives in life. Although parents are the main source to instill morals and values in their children, we believe Islamic schools have a responsibility to instill Islamic principles and moralities in our youth. Again, Islamic schools can only do so much. It is a tough job to help them balance their Islamic identity with their American identity. We hope Noor Academy Sunday School (NASS) will be able to help Muslim students appreciate and understand Islam its rich heritage, principles, values, and teachings. We believe NASS will be able to provide a stepping-stone for our youngsters, so that they understand and accept Islam as the chosen way of their lives. Our success will be measured years later if these youth grow up and say: Thank you, you made a difference in my life! We are striving to reach this goal! This guide is designed to help parents, teachers, and students better understand the expectations, goals, and curriculum of the school. Our request to the parents Please invest in your child. They are precious! M arif Mohammad Arif Principal Noor Academy Sunday School (NASS) - 2 -

Placement of a student in Qur anic Memorization and Qur anic Reading classes may not follow the regular school grades. Regardless of the age of a student, based on the proficiency in these subjects, he or she may be placed at a higher or lower grade. The Principal, in consultation with the class teacher, will make the decision about such placement. If needed, such placement will be reviewed and approved by the Operation Committee of NASS. Curriculum The school will follow a systematic, comprehensive curriculum. The objective of the curriculum is to provide a broad understanding of all aspects of Islam as envisaged in the Mission Statement.
