2 There existed a kindhearted soul in the famous group of Shadab, Nazli Manji, Shabnam Dara and Seema, all known for their outspokenness in the Batch of `79. Fair complexion, immaculate shave, spick and span dressing, hair always cut, styled and brushed, sugary character and an exclusive narrator. This description fits into none else but Mohammad Abdul Mullick, alias Mullick Sahib or Mullick Bhai.

3 He was highly respected by the girls of the group, rather his corporal presence was a source of solace for all. The way Mullick Sahib conversed was unique. Daring, spontaneous, thunderous and every sentence tuned to call a spade a spade. Four girls at one end and Mullick Bhai at the other to balance the act. Mullick loved desi food and had an obsession to frequently visit Delhi Kali Hotel in the afternoons near Dow.

4 House job started after graduation. This was time when everybody was thinking of the future post-graduation prospects in Pakistan and abroad, joining or running away from compulsory armed forces assignments, clandestine journeys to England via Malta. But Mullick cultivated an entirely different notion: marriage plan; and that too as soon as possible. By noon everyday he disappeared on the secret mission to search for a matrimonial proposal. One day he broke the news of his success and got married.

5 Time flew briskly and Mullick reached Iran to earn a living. A few years later he returned to Pakistan and started hispractice asa diabetologist.

6 Time witnessed his beard growing and proclivity towards Tableeghi Jamaat was imminent. For decades his whereabouts were not known. It was only a couple of years back when his name appeared on the list serve and it became apparent that he is serving in Saudi Arabia. Mullick took no time to reinstate relations. He now visits Pakistan very regularly and the reason is very simple. He wants to get his progeny to get married without wasting time. The pitiless history is very fond of replicating itself.

7 Mohammad Abdul Mullick is a very down-to-earth character. He never dreamed about becoming an academic icon or a man with vision to accumulate mounds of worldly possessions. His greatest assets being honesty of purpose, hard work, perseverance and pragmatism: the elements indispensable for happy living.

Your pictures highlight the fact that Mallick got married to Bushra and forgot every body else. he has returned to his mates recently. He has not changed a bit except for over grown beard. He remains soft spoken and very friendly. he is blessed with a very good family. i wish them very best for the future. The pic I posted was in no way a subtle reminder of Mallick's youth. kind regards ifti Dear Shoaib Thank you for writing about Mullick Sahib. Good to see so many of his recent pictures. Wish him lots of success. Funny but accurate, both in English and in Urdu, that is how one can describe the narrative. Memories of Class 79 are no doubt the best. But we missed one of the most successful ladies of our class, mashallah, from our batch. That is Khalida Nasreen. Be it practice or post-graduation or children or laughter for that matter, mashallah she did it all. From Qazi Wasiq to Munnawar to Aijaz's, enjoyed everybody's narrative a lot. Impressed by Shamim's non-ending list of articles, mashallah. Wish I had known more people in our class. Good to see Samina and Salma; Iffat and Ghazala in pictures. Anyway, Nazli wants to join the group. What do I tell her? Maybe Javaid can let me know one more time. It was so good to see the UK reunion on listserv this week. Some old faces looked new. 13 PERSONALITY UPLOADED ON 02 TH OCT 2010 Mullick Bhai, congratulations for being POW Another unique gem of Dow79 batch...a true friend indeed...decent,soft spoken and pious personality. met last year at karachi gathering...found him pleasing personality as ever... unfortunately could not attend Wedding ceremony of his son despite his forceful invitation by card and phone, due to my father's illness...still regret. my best wishes for him &his lovely family QW Dear Shoab and Arshad Saeed, Salam First of all I feel sorry for being away from this lively forum for the main reason that during the last few months I was exceptionally busy in arranging ceremonies in connection of my only son's wedding and engagement of my last daughter. I would like to express my shock finding myself as the personality of the week.i never thought that I at all may be introduced so pleasantly.i deeply appreciate and offer my greatest thanks for your lovely presentation.it makes me feeling something which I believe I may not deserve.
