1 In the Name of Allah The Most High A n - N a a j i A collection of 70 Durood Tunjina Durood come in many various forms and are related by many different people. The durood which have a great virtue are those mentioned directly by the Holy Prophet salallaho alayhi wa sallam, and such durood are termed masnoon durood because they were taught by the Holy Prophet salallaho alayhi wa sallam. Then there are some durood which were composed by the Sahaba (ra), the Noble Companions (ra) of the Holy Prophet salallaho alayhi wa sallam. Then there were durood which were either composed by the Awliyah, the Pious Friends of Allah swt, or the durood wordings were revealed upon them through the medium of dreams or an impressing thought that Allah swt placed in their heart, or Allah swt caused the wording of the durood to be recited from their lips which they wrote down. Some Awliyah have seen the Holy Prophet salallaho alayhi wa sallam in dreams and he taught them to recite durood in a particular manner to achieve a particular need. Such durood are termed as ghair masnoon but their virtue is still the same as the masnoon durood. The reward for reciting both types of durood is the same, the masnoon durood though carry the additional virtue that they were taught by the Holy Prophet salallaho alayhi wa sallam. A very famous ghair masnoon durood is the Durood Tunjina or commonly known as Durood Tunajina. This durood was revealed to a pious Wali of Allah when the ship he had boarded got caught in a storm. The incident goes that Hazrath Musa Zarir (ra) was on board a ship and it got caught in a terrible storm. Suddenly he fell unconscious and in this state he saw the vision of the Holy Prophet salallaho alayhi wa sallam who taught him this durood and instructed that the people on the ship recite it 1,000 times. As quick as he fell unconscious he again awoke and informed the people on board about the durood and they began to recite it. They hardly reached 300 recitations that the ship pulled through and made it out of the terrible storm to safety. Ulama have narrated this 1

2 incident in their books and Hakeem ul Ummah (ra) has also included it in his book Zaad us Saeed on page 17. It should be noted that Hakeem ul Ummah (ra) has mentioned this durod as Tunjina and not Tunajina. Since then many people have utilized this durood in times of distress and calamity or kept its daily recitation to ward off calamity and troubles and it has been found very beneficial for a lot of people. Many great scholars, including Imam Jazuli (ra) in his Dalail, have included this durood in their collections. Hakeem ul Ummah Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (ra) has also included this durood in his collection of Zaad us Saeed and has written that in times of trouble this durood should be recited 1,000 times. Shaikhul Islam Moulana Husain Ahmed Madani (ra) has said to have advised a daily 70 recitation of this durood for protection from calamities. This durood is commonly known as Tunjina or Tunajina, it can be recited as both. The difference in the wording is that tunjina means immediate relief from distress and tunajina means a slow, steady relief from distress. The reciter is free to recite it using either words. Durood Tunjina/Durood Tunajina appears in Zaaed us Saeed of Hakeem ul Ummah (ra) on page 17 in this way: O Allah! Shower blessings on our Leader Muhammad such blessings by means of which You may relieve us of all anxieties and calamities, You may satisfy all of our needs, You may clean us of all evils, for which You may grant us high positions and high rank and status in Your presence and You may lead us to the outmost limit of our aspirations and capacity in whatever is best in this world as well as in the world hereafter. Hakeem ul Ummah Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (ra) has mentioned that the following should be recited at the end of this durood: 2

3 And You have power over all things So the complete durood will recited in this manner: O Allah! Shower blessings on our Leader Muhammad such blessings by means of which You may relieve us of all anxieties and calamities, You may satisfy all of our needs, You may clean us of all evils, for which You may grant us high positions and high rank and status in Your presence and You may lead us to the outmost limit of our aspirations and capacity in whatever is best in this world as well as in the world hereafter. And You have power over all things. Along with Durood Tunjina this small booklet contains the last two ayahs of the Holy Quran which some scholars such as Sayyidna Ibn Abbas (ra) have said are the concluding ayahs of the Holy Quran: Surely there has come to you a Messenger from amongst you, hard on whom is your suffering, for the good of you he craves and for believers he is kind, merciful. So, if they turn away, say, Enough for me is Allah, there is no god but He, in Him I have placed my trust and He is the Lord of the Great Throne. 3

4 The above ayahs of the Holy Quran are said to be so blessed that if a person even jokingly recites them 8 times in the morning and 8 times in the evening he will still attain their blessings. Along with the above blessed ayahs of the Holy Quran the following couplet from the famous Qasida Burda have been included for added blessing: It is important to note that the above verses should not be recited with the intention that the Holy Prophet salallaho alayhi wa sallam is omnipresent, seeing and hearing, this is incorrect belief. The above couplet is included in this booklet so that we can reflect that our success is in following the way of the Holy Prophet salallaho alayhi wa sallam in word and action. We hope that on the Day of the Great Calamity, on the Day of Judgement, when the creation will have no else to rely on but the Holy Prophet salallaho alayhi wa sallam for help that he will intercede for our forgiveness before Allah swt. The reciter is encouraged to recite this small booklet daily from beginning to end in a state of wudhu and then make dua: 4

5 Surely there has come to you a Messenger from amongst you, hard on whom is your suffering, for the good of you he craves and for believers he is kind, merciful. So, if they turn away, say, Enough for me is Allah, there is no god but He, in Him I have placed my trust and He is the Lord of the Great Throne. 5

O Allah, I beg of You for all the good that our Leader Muhammad Your Nabi and Your Messenger (salallaho alayhi wa sallam) asked of You and I seek refuge from all the evil that our Leader Muhammad

The reciter is humbly requested to make dua for the compiler of this collection and his mashaikh, friends and family, may Allah swt accept this as a means of salvation for the reciter as well as the compiler, their friends and family, ameen. 28
