2 It is that time of year, when as a Muslim you might be asked What are you doing for Christmas? Usually our response is always the same, We celebrate Eid. But why do the other communities celebrate Christmas? Christmas is an occasion in which the other communities commemorate the birth of Jesus (Isa a.s.). They believe Jesus was the son of God. Muslims believe in Prophet Isa,(Jesus), however, they do not believe that Prophet Isa was the son of God. He was a Prophet like other Prophets. Every religion has ther own days of celebration and holy days. As Muslims we have been given the two days of Eid as our days of celebration. Many people will greet us in different ways during the Christmas period. Islam teaches us manners therefore if a person does wish you or greet you with by saying merry Christmas, then we should also greet them positively in return with words such as, may the Lord bless you or wish you a pleasant holiday. Our Beloved Prophet (s.a.w.) and his beloved companions have always shown us as Muslims, we must always remember to show respect for every religion. We must make sure to always treat other people and their beliefs with respect just as we would expect them to treat our religion and beliefs.

3 The family of Imran was a blessed and pious family. Imran (a.s) was an imam of Masjid-ul-Aqsa in Jerusalem, Palestine. His wife, Hannah, supplicated to Allah to grant her a son. It was a practice of People in those days for them to give their sons to a place of worship to show their love for Allah. When Hannah s supplication was accepted and she found out she was going to have a baby, she took an oath to do the same. However, when she gave birth, it was a BABY GIRL! She named her Maryam and dedicated her to Allah s worship. Maryam was put in the care of her uncle Prophet Zakariyya (a.s), who was also a guardian of Masjid-ul-Aqsa, where Maryam would stay. Maryam (r.a) grew up to be an extremely pious lady. She devoted herself to Allah s worship and Allah favoured her with miracles- when Zakariyya (a.s) would enter her Mihrab (room) he found fruits. Surprised, he asked about it and Maryam (r.a) replied They are from Allah!. Once, when Maryam (a.s) was in Masjid-ul-Aqsa, Angel Jibraeel appeared to give to her the glad tidings of a son. Maryam (a.s) asked How can I have a son when no man has ever touched me? Jibraeel (a.s) replied Allah is the Almighty. When he wishes something to happen, it happens. It is easy for him. You will have a son. His name will be Isa, the son of Maryam, He will be a sign of Allah and a Prophet to mankind. Allah chose Maryam(a.s) for a great miracle. He wanted to show humanity that he could create a child without a father, just as he created Adam(a.s) without a father or mother! Maryam(a.s) was worried about what people would say. She left and came to Bethlehem, where she gave birth to Isa(a.s) When she returned, Jibraeel(a.s) told her to stay silent. People were shocked! They asked where Isa had come from so Maryam pointed to Isa, who said, I am the servant of Allah, He has given me the scripture and has made me a Prophet. Peace be on me the day I was born and the day I die and the day I will be raised up alive.

4 Isa (a.s) grew up to be a kind and gentle human. He loved the poor and weak and worshipped Allah. The Injil was revealed to him and he preached amongst Bani Israil. Not everyone accepted his message. Some wanted him to prove his prophethood! Allah granted Isa (a.s) miracles such as curing the blind and lepers, bringing the dead to life and bringing a clay bird to life with the permission of Allah. As more and more people accepted the divine message of Prophet Isa ( a.s), the leaders of Bani Israil started to plot to kill him. They went to the Roman ruler and claimed that Isa (a.s) was a threat to the government and he didn't obey the law. This convinced the governor to arrest Isa(a.s). However, Allah informed Isa (a.s) of this evil plot. He gathered his followers and gave them the responsibility of preaching the message of Allah. Soldiers surrounded the house of Isa (a.s), however, Allah came to his rescue and raised Prophet Isa (a.s) up to the heavens. A soldier came into the house to search but could not find him anywhere. Whilst he was searching, Allah changed the appearance of the soldier to look like and resemble Isa s (a.s). More soldiers entered and arrested that very soldier thinking that he was Isa (a.s). He pleaded with them that he was not Isa (a.s) but the soldiers laughed and crucified him on a cross. This is what Muslims believe about Isa (a.s). He was born without a father and was raised up to the heavens and was not crucified on a cross. He is alive in the heavens and will remain alive until he will return to the world again as a follower of Prophet Muhamad (s.a.w) and live for some time before passing away.

5 Maryam (a.s), is the only woman who is mentioned by name in the Quran. She is known as one of the most righteous women in Islam. Prophet Isa will come down from the heavens with his hands resting on the shoulders of 2 angels before Qiyaamah. He will destroy the Dajjal, marry, have children and die a normal death. He will be buried alongside Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in Madinah. The title Al-Masih is used to refer to Prophet Isa. It translates as the Messiah. One if its meanings is a person who is wiped over with goodness. Along with curing the ill and bringing the dead to life, another miracle Isa (a.s) was given was that he could tell people exactly what they had eaten and what they had stored hidden in their homes. This was all by the permission of Allah SWT! Masjid-ul-Aqsa in Jerusalem, Palestine, is also known as Al-Bayt -ul-maqdis. It was the first qiblah (direction of prayer), for muslims, before it was changed to the Kabah in Makkah. According to narrations, Prophet Muhammad (SAW) met Prophet Isa and Prophet Yahya in the second heaven during the miraculous night journey Al-Mi raj. The name of Prophet Isa(a.s) is mentioned a total of 29 times in the Holy Quraan. The name of Prophet Musa (a.s) is mentioned 136 times.

6 We do hundreds of sins a day, Yet we do not repent, And then we say, Allah, Allah!, when a calamity is sent We know death is sure to come, Yet we do not prepare. When told about hell, We say, Oh! I don t care. Too busy in worldly things, Too busy with our money. When told of Jahannam We laugh and say its funny. We have no time to say Allah's name, Nor to give money to the poor We turn away beggars who come knocking at our door. We sit and eat plentiful, Whilst other people die. We ve forgotten the salaam But say Hi, hello and bye We say, Heaven is nice, It is surely made for me! But with all the sins we do, we shall have to wait and see. So be prepared, Oh Muslims! Ask for forgiveness from Allah The Great. Do not sit there lazily waiting, For then it will be too late!

The campaign was all about getting involved in cleaning our neighbourhood and also working to improve the cleanliness of our hearts and minds, to make us great ambassadors of Islam.
