It is a sobering thought, but one that helps us detach from our reliance on things and instead places our reliance on God.

2 THIRTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Campaign for Human Development 2016 Next weekend, our parish will take up a collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development - CCHD. CCHD was founded to break the cycle of poverty in the United States by funding organizations that help individuals help themselves. With the tradition of improving education, housing situations, and community economic development, CCHD continues to make a positive impact in communities nationwide, and 25% of the collection stays in our Archdiocese to fight poverty in our local communities. Your contribution will defend human dignity and reach out to those living on the margins. Luke 21:15 When Jesus speaks of the end times, he assures his disciples they need not be concerned about what to say in defense of themselves or his teachings. When I am with people who approach their own or a loved one s end time through terminal illness, I turn to this counsel of Jesus to not worry about what to speak. Trusting in divine guidance is always a necessity when finding myself with anyone coming to terms with mortality. I pray for the wisdom to leave behind a desire to defend God when someone is bereft with questions about life s unfairness or why a miracle of healing has not been given. I have learned that words are not always the most helpful. Speaking sometimes means keeping quiet, not trying to fix another s pain by what I say but by listening with the heart, entering into their sorrow, surrendering to the Compassionate One s caring presence, and entrusting the hurting one to this great love. Speaker: Amy Nace-DeGonda who works with Catholic Charities of Louisville as the Human Trafficking Case Manager where she provides educational workshops and training on human trafficking and how to recognize such situations when we come in contact with people we may suspect are victims of this modern day slavery. Invite your neighbors and friends. In 2013 fifty one cases were identified in Kentucky and in 2015 there were 125 victims identified. It s a growing problem and one that each of us can help stop if we are aware of the signs to look for. Celebrate the ending of the Year of Mercy with a Visitation of the Divine Mercy image and the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe in our parish. We ll come together on November 20, 2016, from 3:30 5:30 p.m. in St. Joseph Church to pray and venerate these images. These are powerful images and miracles have been known to happen from them. St. Joseph Montessori Children s Center will be selling Christmas Cash raffle tickets after masses on Nov 12 and 13. SJMCC was founded by Sr. Pat Hill in 1973 on the Nazareth campus. It was the first early childhood education program offered in Nelson County. 43 years and 1,000+ students later, the school (and Sr. Pat) are still going strong thanks to faithful support from the community.
