I find God in nature, or I pray on my own. These are both good. So what difference does Church make? As Jesus was ascending to the Father, He entrusted His mission to us. He promised to be with us where two or three gather in His name. He also promised to leave us with the Holy Spirit, who would guide us and imbue us with His power. So, why do we go to Church? Ephesians 1:17 We love and serve a God we cannot see, yet we see Him in everyone and everything around us. Being good stewards of all that is around us is how we show our love of God. Canned goods can be brought to St. Joseph Church every weekend to benefit the Bread for Life Food Pantry. do we gather as a community? It is this community that Jesus has formed and empowered. The community now continues Jesus presence and work. Church is not so much a building but a dynamic presence of Jesus among his followers. To me, this sounds like a pretty exciting place to be! Msgr. Stephen J. Rossetti, Living Faith, Terence Hegarty, Editor Msgr. Rossetti is a priest of the Diocese of Syracuse, N.Y. He teaches at the Catholic University of America and the Gregorian University in Rome. He is the author of many books, including his latest, Letters to My Brothers: Words of Hope and Challenge to Priests, from Ave Maria Press. Men s Club Golf Tournament Calling all golfers!! The St. Joseph Church Men s Club will host its annual golf tournament on Sunday, June 3 at Maywood Golf Course beginning at 8:30 a.m. (via a Shotgun Start) This year s tournament is dedicated to long-time member, and previous club president Ralph Diaz, who recently passed away and will be long-remembered. The entry fee is $85/person which includes breakfast, lunch, beverages and prizes. Prizes will be awarded for : longest drive, closet to the pin and 1st & 2nd place team finishes. Smith (502) To the People of St. Joseph Parish, During my recent stay at Flaget Hospital and after care at Life Care Nursing Home, many of you sent cards and even came by to visit. I was personally touched by the love and concern and prayers for my recovery. It still remains to be seen whether I will be able to return in service to you. That is up to God s plan for me and the wisdom of a brace of Doctors. Thanks for the visits, cards, prayers and good wishes for recovery.. I would like to send each of you a personal word of appreciation but do not have the energy to write so many responses. Please accept this general word of appreciation. I offer this time of recovery as my prayer of thanksgiving. For all of you, Fr. Joe Batcheldor

3 The New Life Center Our pregnancy resource center that helps new mothers, is in need to personal hygiene items, diapers and laundry detergent. Please bring items to church on weekend of May 19th and 20th. The St Joseph School BETA Club is holding a $250 grand prize raffle to be drawn on May 24th, 2018 at 3 p.m. in the St. Joseph School Office. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at St. Joseph School or the Parish Office. Lic# 0580 The BETA Club is raising funds to help offset the travel costs for their trip to the National Convention in June. This was the first year for the BETA Club so they were thrilled they make it to Nationals! Donations are also accepted. The BETA Club is a service and leadership organization designed for those students that achieve above average academically. Through meetings and conferences, we hope to instill a sense of community and provide opportunities for student leadership to emerge. Celebrate the 200th year of our Church with a special edition 30th Anniversary of "A Taste of Tradition." If you are interested in reserving copies of the first St. Joe Cookbook, please go to our Church website or stop by the Parish Office to complete the pre-order form. Reprinting of the Cookbook will be determine based on the number of pre-orders. *Payment will be due at a later date* May 16, 2018 Maloney Room at St. Joseph's Parish Office 7 to 8 p.m. Fran Brown, an Advisory Council for St. Elizabeth's Catholic Charities will present information regarding this ministry. St. E's serves women and children who are in need of housing and other services due to crisis pregnancy and other situations. There are 8 ministries of service at St. Elizabeth's. Youth and adults do service projects, tours, contribute by prayers, funds, or other needs in kind. St. Elizabeth's is the only Catholic ministry offering residential services in the area. Persons do not have to be in residence from Kentucky or Indiana to receive services. Marriage Moment Complaining can poison your marriage. Sure, there are times when your spouse does something you don t like, and you should honestly share that. Other times you may just want to vent. Occasional complaining is OK, but repetitive or more than once a day makes you a sourpuss. It s hard to love a person with a bad disposition. Parenting Pointer What does it mean to be a mother? Does it mean to give birth? That s only one day. If your children are old enough, brainstorm with them the things that a good mother does. Think of the mothers who preceded you. To those who are single and long to be married and mothering your own children - we mourn that life has not turned out the way you longed for it to be. To those who step-parent - we walk with you on these complex paths. To those who will have emptier nests in the upcoming year we grieve and rejoice with you. To those who placed children up for adoption we commend you for your selflessness and remember how you hold that child in your heart. And to those who are pregnant with new life, both expected and surprising we anticipate with you. This Mother s Day, we walk with you, we remember you, we love you, and we pray for you.

5 YOUTH MINISTRY ACTIVITIES Year-End Pass the Torch Party, Friday May 18th (7-9pm). All incoming Freshman from all area schools and home schools are invited to join us for volleyball/kickball, hotdogs/marshmallow roast and lots of fun. We will also have a farewell tribute to our graduating seniors as they pass the torch to all rising students behind them. Holiday World June 1. All high school youth welcomed see website for permission forms. Payment due by May 14. TEC (Together Encountering Christ) Weekend June High school seniors through young adult are encouraged at attend this spirit and faith-filled weekend. Held for the first time at Bethlehem High School. See website for application or contact Ellen for funding assistance.
