It seems such a simple choice; yet you stumble over it almost every day of your life. Let Me help you become more grateful so you can receive bountiful blessings through those openings into eternity. 5 P A G E 5 Young at Heart This month s dinner will take place at Greek Isles Grille and Taverna, 309 Central Expy. #370, Ruisseau Village, Plano, TX The event is on Thursday, October 18 at 6:30 PM and all are welcome to join in! Please be sure to RSVP to Jan or Mark Mueller if you ll be attending. Women s Book Club The October Book Club will meet Tuesday, October 23rd at 7:00 pm at Atria Canyon Creek (NE corner of Independence and George Bush). This month they are reading "Circling the Sun" by Paula McLain. God in Sharing How do you share the love of God with others? Do you do it verbally; sharing your story of faith and what God has done in your life? Maybe you do it by sharing what God has provided to you; by opening your home to someone in need, emptying your closet when disasters strike, sharing your time and talents to help others. And maybe, for you, the best and easiest way is to share in the form of gifts. Those might be checks made out to a non-profit, coins dropped in a red bucket or boot, or maybe it is an amount given regularly to your church. Whichever way you share the bounty of God s love, thank you.

6 P A G E 6 Stewardship Time Have you noticed that every Fall you get a letter in the mail asking you to pledge part of your hard earned income to the church? Every single Fall. And every single Fall, someone will get up in front of the church and tell you how important it is, how vital it is to the life of the church that you give what you can. Mention will be made of it being scriptural and then on one wonderful Sunday you will be asked to bring the tangible proof of your promise and place it in the offering plate or come forward in front of everyone and place your pledge card in a basket. And for many, this is the absolute least favorite time of year. And a lot of it is going to happen again. You see, we base our budget for the church off of those pledge cards. Not just the things like supplies, salaries, utilities and stuff like that. Those pledge cards let us know how much we can do for our community and our members. It allows us to plan for outreach, evangelism, to promote our church and to build it up. Please, prayerfully begin to consider what you can do now. Yes, the card will come. Yes, whatever you can give is not only going to be appreciated, but needed. And yes, giving is scriptural. However the love of Christ and the love of this church is not based on what you give, but on you being you. Please don t tie the love we have for you and what you give together. Love comes with no price tag. Be in prayer, and if you would like to have some scriptures to look at regarding giving, here are a few: Proverbs 11:25, 22:9, 28:27 Sirach 35:1-13 Matthew 5:23-24 John 6:1-14, Acts 5:1-11 Romans 12: Corinthians 4:1-2 2 Corinthians 8:1-7, 9:6-9 Ephesians 5:2 Hebrews 10:14 Thank you

7 P A G E 7 God in Being We were designed by a master craftsman. I mean, just look at the complexity of blood, skin, bone, organ and tendon that makes up the human body. Art at its finest; so complex, so inarguably masterful and made in the image of God. And then, we were taught, by a world class teacher on how to be the best we can be. Jesus Christ taught about acceptance those who are different, being there for those who have less, giving everything you have for the good of all. A master craftsman, a master teacher and the challenge to be as Christ-like as it is possible to be so that you might more closely mirror the God who formed you. How do you do this? What do people see in you when you talk with them, in how you shake hands, in how you offer yourself to them? Do they see Christ? Do you, in being who you are, show others the beauty of God and the love of Christ? Can you do more? Will you? Thank you

8 P A G E 8 God in Caring There are so many examples of God caring for His children in the Bible. We see it in Exodus, where manna from heaven is provided to feed the hungry. We see it in the parting of the Red Sea, in promises being kept, the blind being given sight and the lame walking. We see it in the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. God cares for each and every one of us. How do you show God s love through caring? Prayer is a wonderful way to care for others and for you. Another way is to put thought into action and do for another. For some of you that might mean volunteering at a food pantry or building a house. For some it might mean being part of a service organization or participating in activities to raise funds to change lives. Caring, by its very nature is a action verb and in whatever way you mirror God s care for this planet, His children and His gifts, thank you. T H E L I N K

9 P A G E 9 We should try to live in such a way that if the Gospels were lost, they could be re-written by looking at us. ~ Metropolitan Anthony of Sourozh God in Giving We are children of God. Each of us accepts that, as we also accept that God is creator of heaven and earth; that He gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not die but have eternal life. It is easy to see God in glory of nature, in a child s laugh or in the love we share with family and friends. But what about seeing God when we give? It is my prayer that when you bring in a stuffed animal for Adams Animals, bring in a few canned goods for the food pantry or something for Mikes Kids that you know God is acting through you. It is my prayer that when you give what you can to the church, you celebrate God s abundant gifts to you and give thanks that you are giving back. God gives us all that we need, and wants the very best for us. Please prayerfully consider what you give back to God. Thank you

10 P A G E 1 0 Senior Moments Coming! No, I don t mean those moments when you can t find the glasses that are perched on top of your head, or locate your car keys in the fridge. Not those kinds of moments. I would like to plan for a series of discussions on things that everyone, but especially seniors, need to deal with or prepare for. To that end, I am planning on bringing in people who can talk about: Medicare, Medicaid, Supplements and Parts Recognizing and living with Alzheimer s DNR s, Living Wills and Power of A orneys Home Assistance Recognizing Scams Keeping Healthy In-Home Health Care Caretaker Support Difference between Assisted/Memory Care/Full Care facili es I will keep you updated on when these will be happening and hope for this to be a source of assistance and knowledge.

11 COOL BEANS YOGA: every Tuesday and Thursday from 6-7 pm We are a fairly athletic yoga group who practice integrating the body, mind, and breath. We have many different levels in the class and everyone modifies as they need; no experience is needed and everyone is welcome! We try very hard never to cancel so when the instructor is away, members of the class participate in leading. In order to follow Jesus and worship God: We will live and tell the good news of Jesus Christ in all we do; we will serve our neighbors; and we will minister to our fellow Christians.
