Let us be in prayer for Nancy as she struggles to care for her and help her regain her strength Lord, Hear Our Rebecca asks for prayers upon the death of her former son-in-law, Dan. Her daughter and granddaughters are struggling with the unexpectedness of his death and unanswered ques ons Prayers for Pat Brown upon the death of her brother-in-law last Wednesday. Pat s sister remains in ICU but is improving Walt is s ll struggling with his back pain but is beginning to get answers. Prayers for healing. My friend Douglas s husband Daniel is making great strides (literally) in his stroke recovery. He s ll cannot speak or swallow however. Prayers for Pa s mother as she transi ons from the hospital to skilled nursing. The prayer requests in The Link each week are recent updates. 3 P A G E 3 Lenten Devotional Prayer When you feel unable to pray, remember that the Spirit Himself intercedes for you with groans that words cannot express. Some of your prayers that you consider frantic and unintelligible are actually quite profound. They rise from the depths of your heart all the way to heaven. To form these deep prayers, you need only turn toward me with the concerns that lie heavy on your heart. I want you to watch in hope as you wait for Me, your Savior. Wait expectantly: confident that I will do what is best. The longer you have to wait, the more you must rely on your trust in me. If you start to feel anxious, seek my help with short prayers such as Jesus, fill me with Your Peace. You may breathe these brief prayers as often as needed. As you put your hope in Me, My unfailing Love rests peacefully upon you. From Jesus Lives by Sarah Young Thoughts to ponder on your Lenten Journey What are you searching for? Knowledge? Is it health and happiness? Money and power? Faith? Answers to questions you don t even know? Many of us find ourselves lost in the darkness of the un- known. Remember, the Light of Christ cannot be over taken by the dark, and Christ is with you. Therefore, no matter how much your thoughts and searching leave you feeling in the dark,, there is Light. Grab it, lift your lantern high. The answers will come, and, if you let God lead in your search; all you need will be provided.

5 P A G E 5 Journey into Lent The word Lent might bring to mind a me of self-denial, of freely choosing to stop/give up something that is important to you or that you seem to have li le control of. Maybe Lent is simply having fish on Fridays or fas ng during the week. Some might automa cally see a journey that alludes to the 40 days our Lord spent in the wilderness. Some have almost no experience with Lent at all. So what does it mean? What are we supposed to do? Are there rules? Is it supposed to be about giving up or denial? Do you have to do it? Lent is technically the 40-day journey into Lent. Maybe Lent is simply having fish on Fridays or fas ng during the week. Some might automa cally see a journey that alludes to the 40 days our Lord spent in the wilderness. Some have almost no experience with Lent at all. So what does it mean? What are we supposed to do? Are there rules? Is it supposed to be about giving up or denial? Do you have to do it? Lent is technically the 40 days before Easter Sunday (no Sundays count in this me frame). Just as Jesus spent 40 days and nights in the wilderness following his bap sm, we are asked, as His followers, to willingly travel with Him. It is your choice what, if anything, you give up or if you do that at all. Maybe you might choose, instead, to take on something new, something challenging or difficult. Maybe you will pray more, give more or just sit with God more. Either way, Lent will happen and Easter does come. During this me, you will no ce some changes in the sanctuary. The cross will appear and change will take place every Sunday. Stories will be shared, and the mood will be different each me. You will be asked ques ons through the Link and during service that hopefully will lead to though ul and prayerful considera on. On Easter, as we celebrate the resurrec on of our Lord, you will be asked to come forward and place flowers on the cross. Trumpets will sound and bells will ring. And through it all, from beginning onward, Christ will be with us. May this journey change you. May you be li ed and find new life in the Risen Lord.

P A G E 6 What did you see? And what did it mean? At the front of the sanctuary was a scene. I know you all saw it. But what was it you were looking at? What stood out to you?

Did you find any meaning to it at all? Did it have any connection to the scripture? To the sermon? To you? Each item here was symbolic of something. The black material symbolized the darkness of not knowing Christ. The grey was laid over the darkness because darkness cannot overtake the Light. The red material symbolized the richness of our Jewish heritage, and the blood of Christ. The lantern was a symbol of Nicodemus search and the fact that he sought out Christ at night. The light inside of it was the light of knowledge, the Light of Christ who is The Light of the World. The scrolls represent the Torah, the first word of God and the fact that Nicodemus was considered the best teacher of Hebrew there was, yet still did not understand. The butterfly represented hope. 7 P A G E 7 Common Symbols of Easter: Christian or Commercial? The Easter Bunny The Easter rabbit has it s origins in the pre-christian era where rabbits were recognized as the most fertile of God s creatures, and were considered harbingers of new life. As Christianity spread, the belief that rabbits could bear young without loosing their virginity (hermaphrodite) led to an association with the Virgin Mary, and pictures of hares occurred in illuminated manuscripts and paintings fo the Virgin and Christ Child. Early German Lutherans supported the thought of the Easter Hare playing the role of judge and evaluating how well behaved children were during the season of Eastertide. Those children who were good were brought colored Easter eggs on Easter Sunday. In this, the Easter Hare was shown as very similar to Christkind (Santa). Today, the use of the Easter Bunny is almost totally commercial, with rabbits appearing in the form of chocolate, marshmallow, commercials and cartoons. Luckily, there is nothing un-christian like about eating the ear off the chocolate bunny!

Bags are $5 each, will be delivered free of charge on March 25th beginning at 8am, and they will even spread it with a donation to the troop. You have a choice between Cyprus/Cedar and Hardwood. Why Mulch? Adds nutrients as it decomposes Keeps down weeds Will not float away Each bag covers 12 sq. ft. at 2 deep. How much mulch do you need? Recommend 3 5 total mulch depth to conserve moisture, suppress weeds and regulate soil temperature. Add this much to new or neglected bed areas in your yard. For existing mulched beds, recommend adding at least 2 depth of new mulch as spring top off.
