The Donnybrook Fair was an annual event held in Donnybrook then a suburb of Dublin, Ireland from the 13th to the 19th centuries. The fair was legendary for the vast quantities of liquor consumed there, for the number of hasty marriages performed during the week following it, and, most of all, for the frequent brawls that erupted throughout it. Eventually, the fair's reputation for tumult was its undoing. From the 1790s on there were campaigns against the drunken brawl the fair had become. The event was abolished in 1855, but not before its name had become a generic term for a free-for-all. Page 5

9 CLOSING NOTES.. This and That: Another MBCC Cruise! Check out the flyer above and plan on attending the information session on Thursday January 3 rd at 4p. Our own Terry Thomason is a veteran cruiser and will make it as easy for those of you for whom this might be your first cruise as he will make it interesting for those of you who are more experienced. Traveling with a group you know is a wonderful way to get away and is very likely to be much more convenient and much less expensive. Don t forget --- the trip is not at all limited to MBCC Members --- You are encouraged to invite your friends and family! Check out the photos --- this is one very special ship! Newsletter: Don t forget to me with any notices etc. that you would like to see in next week s and future Newsletters. It is nice to come around the corner and see both Christmas lights and the lighted American Flag. While I know there is no connection between the two -- for me at least the two seem to go together wonderfully. It has also been nice to see the candles in your windows both front and rear. And so it is that I hope you had a very special Christmas (and for some of you I know that Christmas only begins on Christmas Day and continues as I write this!).
