2 2015 ANNUAL MEETING & ELECTION The parish s Annual Meeting will be Sunday, January 25th. Reports will be presented, and four new Vestry members will be elected. On January 25th, the schedule will be: 10:00 a.m. Choral Eucharist followed by the Annual Meeting in the sanctuary, followed by a covered-dish lunch in the Parish Hall. There will be no classes for adults or teens, so they can attend the Annual Meeting. There will be no Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. The nursery will be open for children ages 0-5 years during the annual meeting. Child-care for school age children will be provided by volunteers in the Children s Gathering Room. Build on education programs and activities for children and youths. Vestry - At St. Philip s, I serve as a chalice bearer, greeter, and the lead usher. I have served on several committees, including the Vestry. In the community, I serve as the vice-president for the Arc of the Triangle and the chair of the Curriculum and Instruction Department at North Carolina Central University. Top priority in 2015 Our location downtown offers St. Philip s great opportunity and responsibility, and I would like to support our current outreach to our immediate neighbors. Vestry - I served on the vestry of my past church (St. John s, Roanoke) and I understand the complexities of operating a church with a similar-sized budget. While the operational needs are a significant concern, the largest issue that the vestry is tasked with is overseeing church life to ensure that we are healthy and can grow as a family. Church activities: St. Philip s: Habitat for Humanity, Parish Retreat at Kanuga, Vacation Bible School, Share Your Christmas and Habitat for Humanity and youth group in former church. 4 Valecia Wayhon-Diggs In-Reach: being ushered into the St. Philip s family left a lasting impression on me. I believe a communal effort to further this ministry will only enrich our church life. Growth of Catechesis of the Shepherd Children Ministry: enhancing the curriculum and providing additional support for catechist is key to attracting more participation in this much valued program. Prayer and Consolation: supporting members through difficult times should also be an essential focal point. 6 Michelle Lanier Grow adult education, ministry, and engagement opportunities specific to the needs of an increasingly diversifying parish, including but not limited to creating a People of Color Caucus and supporting parishioners in anti-racism work. Support youth educators in their ministries. Bridge the parish with other downtown congregations and deepen connections with our neighbors at Urban Ministries. Top priority in My top priority would be to work in conjunction with other congregants to create anti-racist programming and ministries. Vestry - I have worked in a Montessori setting. I teach oral history and documentary ethics at Duke s Center for Documentary Studies. I created a faith-based methodology to complete my Master s in Folklore at UNC. I founded and direct the NC African American Heritage Commission, which requires a spectrum of leadership-related skills. 7 Donna Rewalt To support St. Philip s as a diverse, growing parish with our strong sense of mission and community responsibility I believe we must: (1) Maintain connections to each other in our growing parish with a combination of the human touch paired with an expansion of our ability to use technology; (2) Continue to improve on our stewardship of our parish environment and facilities; and (3) Expand ways to involve and invest our youth in parish life and in our community. My background includes my current work directing a community development program for which I administer grants, develop communications strategy, coordinate volunteers, build community collaborations, and facilitate and lead workshops, advocacy trainings, and team building initiatives.
