CULTURE and Character CULTURE AND CHARACTER relates to how we instill a positive emotional reaction, and build a positive emotional connection, with our congregation and visitors. Our Vision for Culture and Character: At Emmanuel, our worship is an outward and visible sign of our culture. We practice on Sunday what we believe about our role in the community. We are committed to outreach, diversity and pastoral care. Although we may attend different services, we are one congregation. Members are aware of niche fellowship opportunities and can readily find a niche within the church. Members feel comfortable enough to initiate new forms of fellowship and take responsibility and ownership of them. Make necessary changes to attract families with children and youth to our church Move decisively to provide high quality education for every age and stage of life Expand outreach ministries that provide direct services to those living on the margins of society Work as an advocate for social and institutional change Empower the congregation to initiate new forms of fellowship
COMMON LIFE Common Liferelates to how we deliver a valuable experience to our congregation. Our Vision for Common Life:Worship is central to our common life. Increased opportunities (worship, leadership, tasks, fellowship) lead to increased congregational involvement and more consistent attendance. We move from a hierarchical structure to flatter decision making. The Vestry role changes from oversight to provision of resources and permission giving. Personal roles are not always and forever but for a time and a season. We sustain an active youth-driven youth group which is social as well as mission-oriented. Small groups have opportunities for extracurricular fellowship, using our facilities or elsewhere. Create more opportunities for adults and youths to form meaningful relationships Move decisively to provide high quality education for every age and stage of life Expand outreach ministries that provide direct services to those living on the margins of society Adapt the opportunities provided by the church making them more accessible Deepen our sense of connection to God and one another through stronger and more worship services Change, improve and expand the music of the church to deepen our worship experience
COMMUNITY Community relates to howwe create and leverage partnerships external to Emmanuel. Our Vision for Community: In a larger community where people self-select uniformity, we are increasingly known as a church which seeks diversity: racial, economic, theological, political, and with respect to gender and identity. We practice diversity in worship. We have robust strategic relationships with the local community, business community and the County Government. We coordinate fully with county social services and sponsor community projects. Work to renew and revitalize the community around the church by forming strategic relationships with the local community and government Expand outreach ministries that provide direct services to those living on the margins of society Deepen our sense of connection to God and one another through stronger and more diverse worship services
PASTORAL CARE AND FELLOWSHIP Pastoral Care and Fellowship relates to how we attract new parishioners and develop the congregation. Our Vision for Pastoral Care and Fellowship: Emmanuel fosters a culture in which Pastoral care is proactive, not just reactive keeping in touch before crisis erupts. We are safe place whichencourages people to be forthcoming. Pastoral care is delivered by both clergy and laity. There are ample opportunities for the congregation to become pastoral care providers for the community. The congregation is the organizing principle for fellowship events. The congregation considers the Parish Hall as everyone s dining room and creates fellowship opportunities around it. Develop ministries that work toward healing those broken by life circumstances Strengthen the process by which members are called and equipped for ministry and leadership Expand outreach ministries that provide direct services to those living on the margins of society Strengthen the management and support of persons in various ministries Strengthen the pastoral response of the church in serving people with special needs
STEWARDSHIP Stewardship relates to how we generate the resources needed to run Emmanuel. Our Vision for Stewardship: Emmanuel strikes a balance between pledge, endowment and fundraising. We conduct an annual pledge campaign for annual expenses, develop an endowment to cover facilities maintenance, and have occasional capital campaigns for new initiatives. Our stewardship efforts foster a sense of collective ownership and responsibility. We also emphasize that time and talent can be just as valuable as treasure. Develop the spiritual faithfulness of the people to support the ministry of the church through time, talent and treasure Enlarge or improve the physical facilities of the church to expand or enhance our ministries Expand the international mission of the church with both financial resources and personal involvement
