1 A CHURCH COMMITTED TO CHRIST AND HIS CAUSE FULFILLING THE GREAT COMMISSION Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28: 19 Jesus said Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men. Mark 1: Demarest Avenue, Englewood, NJ Church, fax mcbceng@aol.com Web Site Dr. Vernon C. Walton, Pastor
2 A Word From Pastor Walton Dear Calvary Family, Greetings in the only name that matters, Jesus Christ! I am delighted to have another opportunity to welcome you to our Leadership/Vision Conference. It is hard to believe that another year has passed so quickly. Let me take a moment and first thank you for your willingness to serve and for sharing with us over the next couple of days. I pray that you are blessed by the experience. I am prayerful that each leader and member attending will leave with a greater understanding of our collective witness together. Each of us has a role to play. How we function in that role determines the success or failure of our ministry. We need each other. Our theme for 2012 is Each One Reach Some. This is the year of evangelism. Our desire is to become better equipped to win lost souls. We clearly understand that the Gospel must extend beyond the Walls. I am excited that Dr. Anthony M. Chandler is sharing with us in this experience. His gifts and talents are extraordinary. He has provided a wonderful model for ministry and I look forward to his insight. Committed, Pastor Walton

6 Reverend Dr. Anthony Michael Chandler is a native of Baltimore, Maryland. He is the son of Thomas Chandler and Queen Jones. He was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System, having graduated from the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute. He earned the Bachelor of Arts Degree from Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia in May of While at Virginia Union, he also served a two year term as President of the Student Government Association. In the year 2000, he earned the Master of Divinity Degree from Howard University, Washington, D.C. and in 2003, the Doctor of Ministry Degree, focusing on Preaching and Leadership in the Black Church from the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. At the age of 18, Reverend Chandler was licensed and in 1995, ordained by the Great Dalton Baptist Church in Baltimore. In addition, he has served as the Youth Pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Supply, Virginia, the Whitestone Baptist Church in Baltimore and the Dalton Baptist Church also in Baltimore. In March 2000, while a graduate intern at the New Psalmist Baptist Church, Reverend Chandler was elected as the second pastor of the New Bethlehem Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland. In less than seven years, the church grew from less than 50 members to more than 600 members, necessitating the need for an additional morning service. Under his anointed leadership, New Bethlehem expanded its territory to now include a newly-renovated Family Life Center/Administrative Building which opened in December 2006 and in April 2007, the church purchased six vacant lots, which now provides additional parking. In December 2007, the Cedar Street Baptist Church of God located in Richmond, Virginia, after 52 years of being led by their former pastor, accepted God s will to have Dr. Chandler serve and lead them as their new shepherd. His charismatic, innovative and stellar leadership abilities have led this congregation of members to pursue a deeper relationship with God while renewing relationships, replacing religiosity with spirituality and leading them in reclaiming their God ordained destiny. The Cedar Street Baptist Church continues to flourish. In just two years of leadership, Dr. Chandler developed numerous ministries, outreach/volunteerism, educational and spiritual opportunities. An additional Sunday morning worship service at 8:00 a.m. was also established and a total renovation of the sanctuary was completed in August of The church also purchased an additional vacant building which is now connected to the current property. With the support of this loving church family, Dr. Chandler is Building ANEW on a Good Foundation. Dr. Chandler s favorite Scripture is Proverbs 18:16, a man s gifts will make room for him. This is what the Lord has done as God has enlarged Dr. Chandler s territory. He has preached in the Holy Land (Israel), Kenya, East Africa and in Johannesburg and other areas surrounding that region of South Africa. In addition, The African American Pulpit published in their Fall 2009 edition his sermon entitled, There s a new kid on the block! Dr. Chandler is also a proud and active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. Dr. Chandler s greatest joy is being married to his high school sweetheart and dream-girl, Taleshia Lenshell Chandler. Lady C, as she is affectionately called, is currently completing her PhD fulfillments in Educational Psychology. Their joy has been made complete sharing as the proud parents of Anthony Michael II, Alysha Michelle and Andrew Maxwel ll. Stay tuned, there is so much more in store!
7 If our church is to thrive, the leaders must be actively involved and be dedicated to its well being and the spiritual growth of every member. The vision and mission of our church must remain a priority. The leaders can accomplish this goal through effective leadership. It all begins with selfexamination of motives and goals. As servants of God s people, all the leaders say and do should be done to the Glory of God. The following are expectations of every MCBC Leader: Love the Lord Love the Church Love and respect your Pastor Be involved in the multiple ministry opportunities provided Be good stewards of their time, talents and treasures. Every leader should be a committed tither and must be of good financial standing Must attend some form of Christian education. All are requested to attend Bible study weekly Must attend monthly Presidents/Leaders Council Must host monthly meetings to discuss ministry activities and to invite new members participation Must submit monthly minutes to Pastoral staff designee Must ensure that the Vision is appropriately shared and supported within their respective ministry Must establish and hold ministry members accountable to standards of ministry participation, support and implementation Must be responsible for ministry planning, execution and budget management Must be committed to growing your ministry Must be committed to sponsoring, providing or assisting the entire congregation in the following: (1) Fellowship Opportunity; (2) Community/ Evangelism Opportunity; (3) Spiritual Development/Ministry Opportunities Be responsible for making sure that your ministry presents a minimum financial gift of $500 to the church operational account on the Annual Ministry Day Celebration in September.
