And from here, you can only go forward, shaping your life story into a magnificent tale of triumph, healing, courage, beauty, wisdom, power, dignity, and love." -- Caroline Adams As you enter the prayer room and experience the Lord's presence with you, we invite you to visit each of the stations, allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you through each activity, and receive His guidance for your Lenten journey. Before you leave the prayer room, we invite you to leave your thoughts, your experiences, your observances, your comments on what this prayer room has meant to you so that we might make these offerings most prayerful and meaningful for you in the future. The prayer room will be available from now through Maundy Thursday. You are welcome to enter in solitude, or arrange for prayer time with Sue or Kathy by contacting either of them. 5 One Great Hour of Sharing Lent 2018 Lent began with Ash Wednesday on February 14. It is a time when we reflect on God s plan for us, a time when we practice intentional living. One way we can do this is by remembering our neighbors in need. Mission is an important part of our church, reaching out to others, offering a hand up. Funds gathered are used for Presbyterian initiatives in Disaster, Hunger, and Self- Development aid. Our assistance changes lives and communities. From the website onegreathourofsharing.org/, One Great Hour of Sharing supports projects that break the cycles of poverty, hunger and thirst, as well as providing aid during times of crisis. [ ] The bulk of the One Great Hour of Sharing offering goes to support water, hunger, disaster relief and empowerment programs. Focusing on these four areas allows One Great Hour of Sharing to address some of the root causes of suffering in our world. A story from NY, Organization: Project Genesis/Gods Disciples Location: Peekskill, NY Amount: $5, Description: This after-school education program seeks to help bridge the gap between school programs for economically poor youth and other surrounding communities school programs. The youth serve on the board and the program provides a haven for them as well as a place to be nurtured and to grow through music and dance and to share their common struggles and how to overcome them. Preparing Communion Elements On the first Sundays of each month and on some special occasions, we share communion with our church family as well as the Christian church families from around the world. In order for us to enjoy this sacred meal together, we need people who are willing to give a little time before the service to prepare the Let s Keep in Touch! Keeping in touch is important to church life here at NHPC and that means making sure we have the right contact information for doing so. If your address, phone number (land or cell) or address has changed recently, or if for any reason you think the church office might not have all elements and get them placed on the Communion Table in the Sanctuary. Being a part of this ritual is really a gift in itself. If you would like to offer your time to prepare the elements, please speak to Sally Kulow or Ginger Emmert. Fish Banks Are Available Fish banks will be available for those who would like one for part of their daily devotions and contributions, and may be returned on Palm or Easter Sunday. Envelopes will also be available in the pews on Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday. You may make any checks payable to: New Hartford Presbyterian Church and note One Great Hour of Sharing in the memo line. 7 To our Church Family, I'm starting to feel like a bear coming out of a long hibernation. Yes, there are rays of light coming into the cave. We could not have survived this darkness without you all. The cards, notes, phone calls, delicious food, transportation to appointment and treatments, gift cards, visits and most of all, the prayers, have fed, supported and strengthened us through this lengthy recovery. We thank you all-----our true church family. Laura and Jimmy Stewart To my friends at NHPC, Thank you so much to everyone for the cards, thoughts, prayers, during my hospitalization and recovery. I plan to be back in the thick of things in time for the rummage sale in May. Jane Anderson Your Cooperation is Needed When you come to worship with your NHPC Church family, it has been requested that everyone be scent-free. While perfume may smell nice to some, to others it becomes a reason for sniffling, sneezing, migraine headaches and a general all over sick feeling. You can help immensely if you do not wear any perfume or scent to worship. So we are asking for your cooperation so all of the NHCP Family can participate in and enjoy worship every Sunday.
