2 Memory Verse: He is not here, but he is risen. Luke 24:6 Lesson Aim: Student will learn that Jesus lives in Heaven today. Life Application: I know Jesus loves me. Destination: Calvary (Golgotha-the place of the skull, it was a place of death and sadness.) Lesson Purpose: Students will learn that Jesus lives in Heaven today. The account of Jesus s death is found in all four gospels. Each account is told by the apostle of what stood out to them. Love: 1. An intense feeling of deep affection. A deliberate choice to show care or feeling that results in giving and action. John 3:16 2. a person or thing that one loves(he was the love of her life.) Jellyfish: a feeble or weak-willed person Characters Jesus: Savior of the world Pilate: Roman Governor of Judea Herod: King of Judea Barabbas: criminal whose life was spared for Jesus. Thief 1: accepted Jesus Thief 2: mocked and rejected Jesus The Women: Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Jesus. John: disciple

3 Joseph of Arimathaea: asked Pilate for body and helped bury Jesus Nicodemus: helped prepare body for burial Roman Soldiers: arrested Him, tortured Him, crucified Him, and guarded the tomb Judas: disciple that betrayed Jesus Background leading up to the crucifixion 1. Jesus was in Jerusalem for the Passover 2. As Jesus entered the city the people cheered and worshiped Him. 3. Jesus and his disciples met in the upper room for the last supper. 4. Jesus took his three closest disciples (Peter, James, John) into the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. 5. Roman Soldiers come to arrest Jesus in the garden. Events after the crucifixion 1. Joseph of Arimathaea went to Pilate to ask for Jesus body 2. Joseph of Arimathaea and Nicodemus prepared the body of Jesus with Myyrh and Cloves. A large amount was used for the burial of Jesus. 3. Soldiers guard the tomb so no one would steal his body. 4. On the 3 rd day the Mary s went to the tomb with spices for burial. 5. He was GONE!!!!!

4 6 Attention Getters: Pre K/Kindergarten- Jesus Loves Me Finger Play With my eyes(point to eyes) on my teacher(point to teacher) My mouth as quiet as it can be(point to mouth) I will listen closely so I can hear(hand cupping ears) How much Jesus loves you(point to others) and me(point to self) Beginner- Crown of Thorns Using a thorn bush make a crown of thorns. Pass the crown around and let the kids touch it. Barb wired could also be used if a thorn bush can t be found. For the younger kids you could use the leather barb wired. Primary- A Bad Taste Ask the kids what they want when they are thirsty? Explain to them what Jesus got to drink. When He tasted it He would not drink it. Have a small bottle of vinegar and let the kids smell it and even offer them a drink. Junior- Paying Your Debt Have a table set up with small trinkets or candy. Allow children to purchase what they want. Let the kids who don t have money still pick out something and you pay for it. Explain to the kids that when purchases are made there is always a price to pay. Let them know you paid the price for them to have a small piece of candy or something they want. Jesus paid the ultimate price we each owed. Jesus paid for us with His life. God demanded a payment for sin and Jesus was willing to be the sacrifice for our sin. Young Teen/Teen- A Bad Taste or Paying Your Debt

5 Bible Account/Visuals Pre K/Kindergarten- figures use your figures to tell the Bible account. Attach figures to toilet tissue tubes. Figures can also be attached to popsicle sticks. Beginner-Bible teaching poster will help you set up a way to tell the story of Jesus death. Use long strips of linen or cotton fabric to explain how they wound up Jesus in burial clothes. Primary-the events of the resurrection of Jesus are huge because each act shows His great love for us. Make banners. Banners can be made in any size you choose to make them. As you show the kids the banners, discuss what impact the verses have. 1. Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. Luke 23:34 2. THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. Luke 23:38 3. Lord, remember me. Today shalt thou be with me in paradise. Luke 23:42, The veil of the Temple was torn in two. Luke 23:4 5. Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit. Luke 23:46 6. Jesus body was placed in a tomb. Luke 23:53 7. They found the stone rolled away. Luke 24:2 8. He is not here, but he is risen! Luke 24:6 Junior- place the visual for the juniors on a black piece of foam board or cardboard. Read the account from Luke 23:33-24:6. You could also use the same thing you used for Primary. Young Teen/Teen- take your time and read. Go in depth as much as you can and give as much background as you can. Use your posters.

6 Memory Verse Games Pre K/Kindergarten-The Path to the Empty Tomb Cut out and arrange the stones in the correct order on the floor. Have the kids take turns stepping on each word and saying it out loud. Beginner- fill a large trash bag with packing peanuts or something to help give it the shape as a rock. Line students up and have them pass the stone from student to student as they say the memory verse out loud. Primary- call out the kids names and at random times say the name Jesus. Students are to respond all together He is not here, but is risen. Luke 24:6 Junior-Write each word on a separate piece of paper and separate kids into two teams or kids individually (if not a big class). Cover each word with some type of candy. Have the kids race to eat candy and place memory verse in correct order. Young Teen-activity found in the front of the Young Teen Student book. Extra Memory Verse Ideas Pre K/Kindergarten- You could put memory verse on some form of a sea creature. Beginner-Type out or write the memory verse down and make a hop scotch pattern on the floor and have the kids say the memory verse as they jump.

7 Crafts Mason Jar Aquariums- All Age Groups Materials Needed: Mason Jars or Plastic Bottles(tea bottles work really well) Blue Food Coloring, Gallon Water(tap water tends to give water a cloudy look) Aquarium Figures, Aquarium Rocks or Sand, Blue and White Glitter(optional), Hot Glue Gun.
