A long line forms to enter the famed Natural History Museum in London and its Darwin exhibition. As I lined up with hundreds of others to get inside London s famed Natural History Museum to visit its new Darwin exhibition (England is celebrating Charles Darwin s 200 th birthday this year), I couldn t help but wonder: was this going to be some kind of attempt at mind control? Ken ham Worldrenowned speaker, author, and president of AiG U.S. After I went through the exhibition, there was no doubt! The Darwin exhibit reminded me of one of those bizarre science fiction movies where people line up to be placed in a special machine and emerge like robots; these people now can t think for themselves, and they end up being like those people who brainwashed them. In a related way, I found the Darwin exhibit to be a very clever form of mind control, basically consisting of: Setting up straw-men arguments that totally misrepresent what Bible-believing Christians accept. Showing how wrong Christians are for believing the things they supposedly believe (which they don t believe in the first place!). Convincing visitors that Darwinian evolution is true, and that one is a fool to believe otherwise (and certainly foolish to believe the Bible). Actually, this kind of mind control is already being used constantly on America s children through the public education system, the secular media, and science museums (even in many Christian schools and colleges, sadly). Using London s Darwin exhibition, let s look at how they are using mind control: 1. Visitors read this display: Before Darwin was born most people in England accepted certain ideas about the natural world as given. Species were not linked in a single family tree. 2 continued from page earth itself was thought to be so young, perhaps only 6000 years old, that there would not have been time for species to change.... Before Darwin, it was still possible to see the world as timeless, eternal and unchanging. Wrong. That s a straw man. People who know and believe their Bible are aware that the earth has indeed changed because of what s recorded in Genesis (the entrance of sin, the event of Noah s Flood, and its account of the Tower of Babel). Those who believe God s Word know that two of every kind (seven of some) of land-dwelling animal were on Noah s Ark. All the different species (there can be thousands of species within one kind) of land animals that are alive today descended from the kinds that got off the Ark. Yes, animals have changed and the earth has changed drastically since Adam sinned. In fact, before Darwin Over 600 already registered! Even in the Darwin exhibit, it is stated that he [Darwin] was aware that people often bred animals with desirable traits and that over time such breeding exaggerated small differences. Dogs were dogs but a tiny lap dog and a large lean greyhound look nothing alike. I just wonder how many visitors noticed this gross inconsistency. Of course, everyone knows that animals change. The exhibition s straw-man argument that Bible-believers think that animals within a species can t change is set up so that the trustworthiness of the Bible can easily be knocked down. 2. Now that the museum visitors are beginning to have their minds controlled to think that Bible-believers don t accept that things have changed, the exhibition s mind controllers state: Discoveries in geology had already challenged the idea that the world and all its species had been created at the same time a few thousand years ago. Fossils clearly show that in past ages the world had been inhabited by different species than those existing today... So, Bible-believers supposedly don t believe animals change, but Darwin figured out that they do, proving the Bible wrong. These changes were his evidence of evolution (e.g., ape-like creatures turning to people). This, too, is designed to make London s museum visitors think that they have to reject the Bible s account of origins and a young earth. 3. Now, here was the final step in indoctrinating visitors to disbelieve the Bible through mind control. They are indoctrinated to believe in an additional straw-man: creationists don t accept that new species can form. But we do. We have stated innumerable times that speciation occurs and that natural selection happens (as we show in a new exhibit at the Creation Museum). But we declare that speciation cannot result in Darwinian evolution the idea that one totally different kind of creature (not species) changes into continued on page 13...

CONFUSED ABOUT CONFUSION? by Stephanie McDorman I have to admit that when I first heard of the Seven Cs of history as explained by Ken Ham and Answers in Genesis, I was a bit confused about why the Tower of Babel, the fourth C called Confusion, was included. Obviously we cannot fit every major event of history into the Seven Cs, so why was Confusion included rather r than Commandments, Covenant or something like that? Perhaps some museum guests wonder the same thing when they first encounter the Confusion exhibit of the museum. I soon came to realize that what happened at the Tower of Babel (Genesis 10 11) is the key to answering many of the questions that people have about the world today. It is a wonderful example of how biblical thinking contrasts with thinking based on man s ideas. A philosophy of science known n as uniformitarianism holds that the present is the key to the past. However, while we can get clues about the past by observing present-day natural processes, we cannot assume that those same processes will explain how the world of today came to be. In reality, the past is the key to the present. Why are there different (so-called) races of people in the world? Why are there so many different languages? Should we live separately? Are we equal? Should we intermarry or not? Wrong answers to the race question have led to terrible suffering and violence over the years. People have incorrectly applied both science and the Bible in this area, with painful consequences. For example, Adolf Hitler used Darwin s evolutionary ideas to justify his actions to promote the superior race. Sadly, many Americans used distortions of the Bible to justify slavery and other abuses of people of African descent. We all have intrinsic and equal value because we are all made in the image of God. Notice one major difference between these two examples the idea of a master race is a logical conclusion based on evolutionary thinking, but justification of slavery was based on a twisted understanding of Scripture. A straight-forward and logical application of the Bible would never allow for such atrocities. So what is the correct answer? We find The Babylon exhibit at the Creation Museum focuses on the 4 th C of history Confusion. it in the fourth C of the Seven C s Confusion. We have different people groups with different genetic characteristics because of what happened at the Tower of Babel. Let s back up to the first C to fully understand. Adam and Eve were the first and only humans created directly by God. This is the main event of Creation, the first C in our timeline. Adam named his wife Eve because she was the mother of all living (Genesis 3:20). All humans descended from Adam and Eve. When they chose to rebel against God, which launched the world into Corruption, the second C of history, the consequences affected all of creation. When humankind had continued in wickedness for many generations, God decided to destroy every living thing on the face of the earth except Noah s family and the animals He spared on the Ark. This Catastrophe, the global Flood, is the third C and is also important in correctly understanding the people groups of today. The only survivors of the Flood were Noah, his wife, his sons, and their wives. Therefore, everyone on earth today is a descendant of Noah, who was a descendant of Adam. 4

A straight-forward reading of the Bible to this point tells us the most important thing we can know about the people groups: we are all one blood (as confirmed in Acts 17). From this alone we know that we should treat all people with respect and dignity. We all have intrinsic and equal value because we are all made in the image of God. But why do we have the different people groups today? As I mentioned earlier, the answers lie in the historic event of the Tower of Babel. Several generations after the Flood, Noah s descendants had still not obeyed God s command to fill the earth. They found a plain in the land of Shinar and dwelt there, and there they began to build a great tower to make a name for themselves. God confused their language there, so that they could not understand one another, and they were forced to disperse by families. When each family went off and settled with their relatives who could understand them, they carried whatever genetic characteristics that were prevalent in their family group with them. The Confusion exhibit of the Creation Museum tells about what happened at the Tower of Babel, and illustrates how Babel explains our differences. An exhibit called Who s Your Brother? shows how we are all one blood and how the Bible condemns the mistreatment of fellow humans. The exhibit touches on genocide, racism, and also abortion, since unborn babies are humans deserving the same respect as all people. We are currently working on an addition to this exhibit that will display historic items from the Holocaust. The past is the key to the present. In other words, history as recorded in the Bible gives the answers we need for our world today. No matter what scientists, political leaders, or other influential people of any decade have said, God has revealed unchanging truths in the pages of real history to show us how we should regard and treat all people of the world, no matter how different they might seem. 13 Signed, Sealed, But No Longer to be Delivered It s the first of its kind in our 15-year history: Answers in Genesis and Creation Research Japan have signed an agreement that allows CRJ not only to translate our creation/gospel materials into Japanese, but also to print AiG books and duplicate DVDs in Japan. It s the delivery part that makes this agreement different than what we ve done in the past. The new relationship with CRJ will be a great means to get Bible-affirming resources more quickly and inexpensively into a nation that desperately needs the gospel. This is because we will no longer have to produce the Japanese-language materials in the U.S. and then ship them all the way across the Pacific. The London exhibit says: Darwin s theory of evolution by natural selection is the only scientific explanation for the spectacular diversity of life on earth. It provides a powerful framework for understanding nature and is one of the essential theories of the very core of science.... As Darwin himself anticipated some people have held to the conviction that species are the result of special creation through the action of a Creator. Some find incompatible with their religious beliefs the concept that humans share a common ancestry with earlier primates and that humans and other species evolved over immense spans of time. Creationism, including Intelligent Design, does not offer a scientific alternative to the theory of evolution by invoking the act of a Creator or an Intelligent Designer as the explanation for large diversity. Sad, isn t it? The Bible warns us about such mind controllers at the Darwin exhibition: it is they who suppress the truth in unrighteousness (Romans 1:18). One Race But Why the Differences? If there is only one biological race of people, as we teach on our radio program, at seminars, in books, and inside the Creation Museum, why do we see so many differences in humans including skin color? Actually, there are only minor surface differences among humans. Every person has basically the same skin color it s mainly a brown pigment called melanin. If you have a lot of it, you ll have a dark shade; however, only a little of the pigment will result in a light shade. It s more complicated than that, but that s the gist. Now, why are there people groups with a dark shade of skin... and another group with, let s say, almond-shape eyes? The Bible has the answer! In Genesis chapters 10 and 11, we read about an event called the Tower of Babel. God gave people different languages, which caused confusion and ultimately forced groups to separate and move over the earth. This separation resulted in different combinations of genes from the original human gene pool, characterizing each of these groups thus we see these external differences today that distinguish the people groups. Even most secular scientists of our day agree with us that there s only one biological race of people.
