Several times over the years I ve encountered worshippers in what I would call the I Can t Know religion. Last year, when I was in Shrewsbury, England, the birthplace of Charles Darwin, I walked past a Unitarian Church which had a plaque on the wall declaring that Darwin attended this church when he was a child. Bill Maher of the film Religulous, who is described on the movie s website as a person who "applies his characteristic honesty" to the project, sneaks inside the back door of AiG. Then on the door of the church I read a sign: No one has the only truth. (See photo above.) Now that s an interesting statement. I felt like going inside and asking if this was a true statement itself and see what kind of a reaction I d get! This declaration is one that says that people can t know for sure if they have the truth the I Can t Know religion! Of course, if people claim they can t know, then how can they be sure they do know they can t know? I came across a devotee of the Can t Know religion while watching a film in a movie theater last month. Because of impending media interviews (the Creation Museum was featured in the film), I had to view what turned out to be a vulgar and blasphemous movie featuring the God-mocking comedian, Bill Maher: Religulous. Even though Maher mocks Muslims and Jews in this movie, his venom is mainly directed against Christianity. 2 continued from page 1... what happens after one dies is that one simply can t know. Maher apparently doesn t realize that he is committing what s called a logical fallacy. When he states that you can t know, he is insisting that he himself knows that a person can t know. This is the same fallacy as a Unitarian church saying no one has the only truth. Or like the person who once told me that there are no absolutes which, as I pointed out to him, was an absolute statement! Now, Bill Maher thinks he is non-religious but he really has a religion: the Can t Know faith! That s his belief system. Maher thinks he can determine whatever truth he wants to believe. It is ultimately a trust he puts in man and his reasoning instead of trusting in God. He thinks he can be his own god. At Answers in Genesis, we proclaim a Can Know religion, Christianity! 1 John 5:13: These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may [continue to] believe in the name of the Son of God. 1 John 5:20: And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true. The Can t Know religion destroys lives, leaving people with no purpose and meaning and it ultimately separates them from their Creator forever. It is illogical and ignores the facts of both science and Scripture. It is a rebel s refuge most frequently disguised in intellectualism. The Can Know religion changes lives. (See the testimonies below). People can know Christ now and will spend eternity with their Creator forever. That s what Answers in Genesis is all about changed lives for now and eternity. Wouldn t it be great to see a testimony from Bill Maher one day, showing that he s changed from the Can t Know religion to the Can Know one? An 11-year-old girl recently received Christ as Savior after watching the film. Someone in Tennessee wrote us: "[AiG's seminar] renewed my realization of how indescribable our God truly is. I totally agree with your analysis regarding the foundational basis of Christianity (the first eleven chapters of Genesis) being relinquished by the church. Without the firm foundation of Genesis describing man's sin, the saving message of Jesus Christ is irrelevant." We don't just get positive comments, of course. But even then, some negative statements can be quite illuminating about heart attitudes. An anti-aig professor and frequent talk show guest, Dr. Arthur Caplan, said recently that creationism "may pose the greatest threat to the future of our children, your health, and the nation's economy." 2

3 The Creation Museum seizes the imagination, then releases it to roam effortlessly throughout its exhibit halls. Life has been breathed into history. Christmas at the Creation Museum by Stephanie McDorman The wonder of that first Christmas is depicted in this sculpture made for last year s Christmas Celebration by staff artists. I love almost everything the Christmas season brings the music, lights, memories, big smiles on my kids faces. But I admit that in all the excitement it s difficult at times to keep my family focused on the most exciting and important part, the birth of Jesus. To be honest, many of our family traditions have little to do with Him. That is why I m so excited about a new tradition we ll add this year the live nativity at the Creation Museum! If you haven t been to the museum, you may wonder what creation has to do with Christmas. One is in Genesis; the other is in the New Testament. You may think the Creation Museum is about scientific evidences, and Christmas is about the warm and fuzzy stuff of Christianity. Actually, you might be surprised. The New Testament makes it very clear that Jesus is the Creator. The Gospel of John opens with, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. Colossians 1:16 states, For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. The wonder of Christmas is that the Creator Himself became human, and that He entered the world so humbly, as a little baby sleeping in a feeding trough for animals. As John puts it, the Word became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14). What is surprising for many first-time museum visitors is that the Creation Museum is really about Jesus. Sure, scientific explanations are presented throughout the museum, but the account of Jesus s life and death is continued next page... Did you know? In the "Last Adam" movie, we meet Mary, who tells of the angel appearing to her with the news that she would give birth to the Son of God. Then the story dramatically unfolds as His purpose in coming, as the sacrificial Lamb of God, is revealed. Guests frequently comment about the powerful effect this movie has on them, and how they were pleasantly surprised to see that the museum presents the whole gospel, not just Genesis. Since the Creation Museum is the perfect place to be reminded of the glory of Jesus, as Creator and Redeemer, we decided to offer a very special Christmas event called Bethlehem s Blessings. Bethlehem will be set in the museum s beautiful gardens. The lighted nature trail will lead the way to a live nativity, featuring several of the petting zoo animals. 5 The Last Adam Presentation The Last Adam presentation at the Creation Museum is a powerful film about the life and death of Jesus Christ. The film encompasses the final three C s of biblical history which are Christ, Cross, and Consummation, and is a moving depiction of Jesus s ministry on this earth. The Last Adam has touched many lives, and is portrayed in such a sensitive and informative way, that even young children can understand the message. It was one such young 11-yearold girl, who after viewing The Last Adam recently, committed her life to Christ. She was here with her mom and dad, brother and sister, and they all went in to see the film. After the show, they exited with everyone else, and the show host in the theater started the next presentation. When he opened the door to let the next group in, he found that her parents had returned to share the news that after discussing the film with their children, the girl asked to receive Jesus Christ as her Savior. We all rejoiced, stated a museum employee, It s why we do what we do here every day. Moments like these make it [the ministry of the Creation Museum] all worth while. We are certain there are many more lives being touched, things happening every day in the Museum that we don t even know about, we may never know about. One thing we know, we serve a God who is constantly at work in people s lives, even when we don t see it. We enjoyed the botanical gardens and outdoor lunch, but we were especially awed by the planetarium show about the cosmos. He noted that their size and beak shapes were suited to the different diets and lifestyles of the finches. Darwin later suggested that all the finches were descendants of an original pair, and that natural selection was responsible for the differences. The problem came when he extrapolated the power of natural selection to effect changes within a kind to changes that supposedly transformed one kind into another. The first is observable, the second is not. The first follows from the teaching in Genesis 1 that God created all things after their kind. This suggests that great variation exists within the various animal and plant kinds, but animals and plants cannot and do not change from one kind to another. As Darwin s proposed mechanism for molecules-to-man evolution, natural selection simply doesn t work. Science has shown us that natural selection causes a loss of genetic information within a population and can only act on traits that are already present. Instead, observed instances of selection confirm the biblical view of variation within a kind. So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 21 The Malaysian Surprise by Dr. David Crandall, Director, Answers Worldwide My computer s unusual ring signaled that a call was coming to me via the Internet on a system called Skype. This audio/video call was from Malaysia (I was amazed at the clarity of the images and the voice, coming half way around the world the world is indeed getting smaller!) and it was Joseph Tan, a Christian leader in his country. With the passage of what s called The Tax Extenders and Alternative Minimum Tax Relief Act of 2008, Congress has extended the IRA charitable rollover for both 2008 and So, if you have been contemplating how you might be able to support Answers in Genesis with a year-end gift, this new law may provide you the opportunity. IRA owners who are 70 ½ or older can again make direct transfers of their traditional (or Roth) IRA funds to charity. The transfers may be up to $100,000 per year and should be made directly from your IRA custodian to AiG (or other qualified charities of your choice). Although there is no charitable deduction for these rollover gifts, the transfers are not subject to income tax and the gifts count toward your minimum required IRA distribution (on which you would otherwise be taxed). So for 2008 and 2009 combined, the new law permits you to rollover up to $200,000 directly to charitable institutions without first having to recognize the assets as income. Austin Mount St. Helens after it blew and created incredible geologic features Formations like these don t need millions of years to be laid down they can form quickly. What in Earth are Varves? Varves are layers of fine sediment we can see exposed in the ground. They are of varying thicknesses, and are found in many places around the earth. Secular scientists usually make the assumption that each layer represents about one year. Back in the 1800s, the layers of varves seen in many places were one of the evidences used to popularize the idea that the earth was very old, for there were so many varves piled up. It s not well known, however, that varves can form quickly by catastrophic events, having been observed to result from massive floods and volcanic eruptions. One varve therefore does not need a year to form. The Flood of Noah, for example, could have easily laid down varves all over the world in just one year, especially with all of the volcanic activity occurring. Also, the Mount St. Helens eruptions in 1980 resulted in catastrophic processes that produced over 25 feet of finely layered sediment in only a few hours. This illustrated that such formations don t need millions of years to be laid down they can form quickly. And think of it: Mount St. Helens is a small volcano by comparison to all the volcanic activity that occurred during the Flood. Imagine the number of varves that could have been produced from all the geological catastrophism during the time of Noah s Flood. No, the earth is not millions of years old.
