2 Loyal To Christ And His Church Counting On You Rev. Don Thomas The Finance Team is faithful in its task to oversee our budget of nearly $550,000. I am grateful for our leadership in seeking more precise and helpful reporting formats. Please respond to their request for updated financial pledges. So far, 45 have been turned in. We are counting on you! Trinity is a blessed church, deep in history and heritage. We must not be fixed on the past and fail to respond to the challenges of the future. Our greatest achievements are not yet done. A vital congregation is not possible without commitment. Children s Bell Choir: On Mother s Day, May 10, both of the Children s Bell Choirs will perform. I need all the children who are part of these choirs to come to the final practice during Sunday School on Mother s day at 9:45 a.m. Also, there is another practice on Wednesday, May 6. Please try to make it to both of these practices if you can. What do you say when the Lord calls on you? I pray you say, Count on me!" Don REMINDER! The Holston Conference Hands-On Mission Project for Backpacks for Liberia needs your help in filling the backpacks. We have found the small dictionaries, so that makes the cost for each backpack (with all the supplies) approximately $25. If you want to donate money toward the purchase just mark your check or envelope for Liberia project. All donations and/or supplies should be in by May All youth and children of Trinity: If your child would like to go to camp this summer, I need their registration forms turned in immediately so that we can see how many scholarships we will need to provide. 3 Rev. Brenda Dowell To all Confirmands and those who wish to be Baptized: Confirmation classes are almost over. We will confirm or baptize the youth who are ready to make this important spiritual step on May 24, Pentecost Sunday. So, parents please be in conversation with your youth who have gone through Confirmation classes concerning their spiritual walk with God and if they are ready to be confirmed or baptized. Let Rev. Brenda Dowell know of your youth s decision. Calling all Crossfire Youth: We are going to Sir Gooney s on May 23. The cost is $20. We will leave the church at 1 p.m. Go Carts here we come!!! 14 Our youth are finishing up Confirmation classes this month and they will be contemplating some important spiritual decisions. So, as they do some soul searching let us also reflect on religious conversion and what that means. In Galatians 4:19, Paul writes I am in travail with you...until you take the shape of Christ. My professor Dr. Robert Hughes says that conversion is a response to prevenient grace. It requires noticing, healthy shame, hope, healing, empowerment, and falling in love. Lonergan adds that conversion is self-surrender without conditions, qualifications, and reservations. It is God s love flooding our hearts through the Holy Spirit given to us. What at gift of grace as we fall in love without qualifications. Conversion is not just a one time event, but a path of psychological and spiritual formation that takes a life time. It is, as Dr. Hughes states, a first movement of entry into the spiritual Way of Christ and the movement of the Holy Spirit birthing in us the theological virtues, and their companion virtues, gifts, and fruits. Repentance (accompanied by healing and liberation) remains a theme of constant conversion. We never leave behind our need to be anchored in the humanity and flesh of Jesus. Conversion is all about love and being transformed by the Spirit of God at work in our lives, which is a life-long process. The G-Force VBS decorating team needs your help to make Trinity look like an Adventure Park. This is the list of items we need: Skate boards boogie boards pool noodles roller blades roller skates scooters bikes Bike helmets balls (any kind) hula hoops jump ropes pogo sticks We will take these items on loan or donation. We would like to have them by June 7 so that we can transform Trinity into an Adventure Park on June

5 Family Activities Tonya Jelf End of School Family Campout Friday, May 22 through Saturday, May 23. Family Activities Event - Bring your tents, sleeping bags, chairs, and teddy bears. Bring your favorite story book - The kids and the whole church family will be camping out on the lawn. We will use the Foley House for restrooms. Start setting up your tents on Friday. It officially starts at 7 p.m. We will have music, games, and story time. We will need the use of portable grills for snacks (so please let me know if you are able to bring one). If you play an instrument, bring it along. We should utilize our grounds as much as possible, and I hope that everyone will join us. If you own a camper, set up in the parking lot but remember we don't have hookups. Just saying...god will do powerful things during this family friendly event. Family Activities will provide the ingredients for s'mores and bottled water. What is left over from Spring Splash? Do you have good clothing that you just don't wear? On Saturday, May 9, we will have a Family Clothing Swap. Bring gently used, clean, clothing. Please ensure that there are no holes or tears in clothing (unless part of style, as in jeans). The CLOTHING SWAP will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The CLOTHING GIVEAWAY will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. If anyone would like to volunteer for the clothing giveaway that would be awesome. We will notify the public to come and receive clothing. We just need peeps in the hallway to direct people towards the gym. We may need them for swap, too. 12 Spring Splash Jean Fraley What a beautiful day we had for the Spring Splash! The most important thing about Spring Splash is all the volunteers who help to make this event happen. There aren t enough words to express completely our thanks for everyone who helped in any way. It takes a lot of people and prayers to make an event like this happen. The purpose of such an event is not just to raise some money for mission projects but to enjoy a day at the church greeting and meeting and eating and helping and washing cars and giving blood the fellowship! THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! At the present time (there is still some money out) our total for Spring Splash is just a little over $2000 which will be divided with projects the most in need, and the total for the Youth Car Wash is $261. A great big round of applause is due to the parents and youth who washed cars. This is great experience for them to serve the church and community. I am so thankful for everyone who came out. I must say I think we did well considering we were competing with all the yard sales, garage sales, and church events all over Knoxville. Trinity Crafters The next meeting date for the Crafters is May 14. We are working on projects for the next Craft Sale in October. The days slip away fast, so we have to keep working to be ready for that big event at Trinity. Thanks to all who continue to donate things we can use in our crafts, and remember you are an important part of this group. 5

6 Family Promise Liz Wright THANK YOU TRINITY FAMILY PROMISE VOLUNTEERS!!! Thanks to all of you that served during our Family Promise host week. What a blessing it was to provide shelter and food to four families with children while they receive assistance acquiring jobs and housing during difficult times. Our next host week begins on August 23. If you could not help this time or you have not been able to participate in the past, please consider volunteering a few hours. You will see what a wonderful mission that Trinity has been supporting and will continue to support with your help.
