1 SEPTEMBER 2018 THE EPISTLE of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church September 2018 Volume XXXIX, No. 1 SUNDAY WORSHIP SCHEDULE SEPT 2 9:00 A.M. WORSHIP SERVICE 10:15 A.M. FELLOWSHIP TIME SEPT 9 9:00 A.M. WORSHIP SERVICE 10:15 A.M. FELLOWSHIP TIME 10:30 A.M. GOD S WORK-OUR HANDS SEPT. 16, 23, 30 9:00 A.M. WORSHIP SERVICE 10:15 A.M. FELLOWSHIP TIME 10:30 A.M. FAITH FORMATION HOUR For everything there is a season Ecclesiastes 3 For me, the beginning of the school year was always exciting, but laced with anxiety. It was a new schedule, in a new classroom, with a different set of peers, and new rules. I loved school. I loved my friends. But I did not like the first week of the school year. In fact, for weeks prior to the first day, I would have anxiety dreams. You know the kind; the ones where you leave your shoes at home and they won t let you come into the school building or when you would forget your lunch money and have nothing to eat come lunch time. I m not sure why I had those dreams, they never came true, but they were always there, in the back of my mind. In a way, this month is kind of like the beginning of a new school. Together you and I are embarking on a journey into the unknown. There are new rules. New friends. New routines. New pretty much everything. We don t know what to expect with one another, but we are excited and filled with joy at the opportunity to be together and experience Jesus in this place. Please know in this season of new beginnings, I am praying desperately for the Holy Spirit to be present among us; to show us our path, to help us in our anxiety, and to love us in our mistakes. I know there will be a time of learning; after all, that s pretty much what we ll be doing this first year, getting to know one another better. However, even in our learning we will experience growth and joy and happiness and love and the abundance of God s blessings. Our future is so good. I give God thanks! For God is at work, and I for one cannot wait to see what he has in store for us, here at St. Paul! Simon, Titus and I look forward to being with you and journeying alongside of you in this gift of ministry.

Stewardship of our work life And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. -- Colossians 3:17 The priesthood of all believers has been characterized as Martin Luther s most underappreciated theological insight. Simply put, Luther observed that God calls all Christians -- not just pastors -- to lives of holiness. Every one of us, not just priests, accomplishes God s holy work, regardless of what we do for work, whether employed or working at home. It s a simple idea, and one that certainly elevates our job to a new status, but it can be hard to live out. Here are some tips: Think service: Every workplace holds challenges for your employer, coworkers and customers. How can your experience and gifts help? Think priest: You are called to be a holy person 24/7. How does this awareness invite you to change your behavior and attitude toward your work? We spend so much of our lives in our jobs, we can t park our faith at the door. Instead, we bring the light of Christ to the workplace as holy people of God s reign! --Rob Blezard Copyright 2018, Rev. Robert Blezard. Reprinted by permission. Pastor Blezard serves as an assistant to the bishop of the Lower Susquehanna Synod and works as content editor for * Purchase Giant or Kennies gift cards in increments of $50 * Use the cards when you do your normal Shopping * Youth receives 5% of card sales directly from the supermarket Details: 1. Questions, call Sue Williams at The vegetable soup will then be distributed throughout the year to people of our community who are ill, hospitalized, experiencing a death in the family, new to the community, or in some way need to feel God s love. Special thanks to Sandie King, Cheryl Onelius, Iris Graybill, Connie Harvey, Fay & Wayne Wagaman, Mim Kessler, Brenda Bowersox, Lora Marks, Pat Lobodinsky, Kim Leber, Tina Becker & Carolyn Diehl for volunteering their time to make the soup deliveries!! Thank you for your continued support of this outreach program!! Think disciple: You may know to be a disciple in church, but prayerfully imagine how you can be a follower of Jesus at work, too! Think excellence: There s satisfaction in doing your best. Knowing that your work is holy can provide not only incentive but also a satisfaction boost. Think relationship: They re not just your coworkers, they re also the neighbors whom Christ commands us to serve and to love as ourselves.
