An Ark inheritance!, President, AiG-USA Proverbs 13:22 A good man leaves an inheritance for his children s children There was something about a fire hydrant that made it real! Let me explain I was visiting the site of our future Creation Museum to observe all the activity that was going on I counted 15 pieces of heavy machinery (scrapers, graders, etc.) working at one time. I also noticed the water lines and fire hydrants placed at strategic places. As I stood looking at the graded car parking lots and the massive hole where the museum will stand, one of the fire hydrants caught my eye. There was something about the hydrants that made me realize Wow, this is actually happening! It was quite an emotional moment for me as I pondered the massive undertaking right before me. You see, this project made me reflect on where we ve come in the AiG ministry. In particular, I immediately thought of an event seven years ago about an ordinary but very special model of Noah s Ark. That ark, to me, vividly represents a legacy that has led to this exciting growth step in a ministry the Lord called my wife and me to 30 years ago. I decided right there that our next staff devotion at AiG would center on explaining this Ark and what it represents. This is what I shared with the staff: First, I said that I praised the Lord for a father and mother who stood solidly on the inerrant Word of God, despite the opposition from liberal pastors and other Christian leaders. It was this upbringing that resulted in obtaining an inheritance more valuable than silver or gold a spiritual inheritance a love for the Creator and Savior and His infallible Word. I told the staff that in 1995, and just a few weeks before our American tourist group (which my wife and I lead to Australia each year) was to have a meal at my parents place in Brisbane, my father passed away. My mother still hosted all of us. When we arrived, in what was obviously a very emotional moment for her, she proudly presented me with a model of Noah s Ark that my father had made a few weeks prior. My father wanted to have this model floating in the swimming pool with US and Australian fl ags on it as a way to greet our tour group. Only your ministry has equipped me with very logical answers to these and other questions. I pray for your ministry and especially the Creation Museum. C.W., Flemington, NJ Creation Museum gifts When I first looked at the Ark, my mind immediately recalled the time my father received his daily devotional book from his church. When he read the devotion on Genesis 6, and found that the Christian organization responsible for the devotional claimed Noah s Flood was just a local event, my father became upset. He immediately sat down and wrote a letter to those responsible for the devotional and showed them from the See the middle pages of this newsletter for information on this wonderful Noah s Ark painting. Meanwhile, the museum team, with the help of many volunteers, has begun clearing debris around the lake Scriptures that Noah s Flood was a global event. He then went to the deacons at church and challenged them to stand up for the Scriptures and to rebuke (gently) those who wrote this devotional. That was just a glimpse of my upbringing, I told our staff. There s no doubt in my mind that the legacy my father (and mother) gave me, together with the Lord s calling on my life, is the reason I could stand there and observe the Creation Museum take shape. 3 Complete story on the Web, Evolution challenged in Cobb County! fi ght has been brewing for A months about the proper teaching of evolution in Cobb County, which has the secondlargest school district in Georgia. The ACLU has filed suit to force the schools to remove a new textbook disclaimer, which says: This textbook contains material on evolution. Evolution is a theory, not a fact, regarding the origin of living things. This material should be approached with an open mind, studied carefully, and critically considered. Remarkably, the ACLU called the disclaimer a fundamentalist Christian expression that foists religion on students. The day after the ACLU lawsuit, the school board lobbed another bombshell, voting unanimously to consider a new school policy that discussion of disputed views of academic subjects is a necessary element of providing a balanced education, including the study of the origin of the species. If implemented, the ACLU has vowed to fight the new policy as well. School teachers in Georgia have long expressed confusion about what they can teach in class. In 1987 the US Supreme Court ruled that public schools cannot mandate the teaching of creation as science, but the courts have not yet clarified what school boards can allow. As a high school student, it s nice to know that after being blasted by the evolutionary mud slung at me every day, I can go to your Web site and reaffirm my belief in God s Creation. Thanks a lot! 6 6 DID YOU KNOW? Do scientists really just make up information? Where s the missing link? Did you know that evolutionary scientists like to portray themselves as unbiased researchers? But are they very good at reconstructing the fossil record of human ancestors? A student approached me once with an illustrated book on evolution in his hand. He opened to a picture of one of our supposed ancestors called Lucy. Lucy looked somewhat human, but yet ape-like. The student asked me, How do they know Lucy looked like this? I replied that this was a good question. I explained that if someone were to dig up his own skull in a hundred years, they could find an artist to draw a picture and make him look ape-like or human-like. The student wondered: Do scientists really just make up information? I responded, Actually, sometimes they do. I shared with him the account of a medical illustrator who was contracted to produce drawings for a biology text. One of the drawings was to be of Lucy. When the illustrator finished his drawing, the book s authors rejected it, claiming it was too human-like. He was told to make Lucy look more ape-like. Keep this story in mind the next time you read a book on evolution or visit a science museum.
