Many times I ve heard people tell me something like God could have used evolution or God could have created over millions of years. Also, some say: As long as we believe He is Creator and Savior, He could have created in all sorts of ways. My answer back to them has always been, It s not a matter of what God could have done, but what He said he did! A major theme for AiG in 2004 is Operation: Refuting Compromise. We declare from the start that our emphasis in examining the fallible ideas of fallible scientists should follow (if we truly believe that the Bible is the inerrant, revealed Word of God) that of the Bereans in Acts 17:11: These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. After I had spoken at a conference, the wife of a pastor came up to me and said, I m not like you literal creationists. I don t limit God to six days of creation. I allow Him millions of years. I answered her by saying, I don t limit God to six days, but I limit myself to letting God tell me what He did and not try to tell God what I think He did. And may I humbly suggest that you should stop telling God what He did and instead listen to what He is telling you? If God s people truly adopted this way of thinking, compromise that is so rife through the church (teachings like the gap theory, progressive creation, theistic evolution, day-age theory, framework hypothesis, etc.) would disappear. There is another compromise position prevalent in the church. In fact, probably the majority of prominent Christian leaders in this country claim that Christians can (and should) accept the big bang hypothesis as long as you say w w w. 2 2 continued from page 1 that God used the big bang to create the universe. A Berean approach to Scripture, however, quickly makes it obvious that God did not use this way to create the universe. Those who teach the big bang idea declare that our sun came long before the earth formed. Also, the earth was formed from a hot molten blob for millions of years before it cooled down. Eventually water formed on the surface. Now, if we read Genesis 1 in a straightforward way (taking it as it is written literal history), then we find that God clearly tells us that the earth was created before the sun and it was not a hot molten blob, but was covered in water on the very first day of creation. One other vital aspect of truly understanding Genesis concerns the nature of God (which we also learn about from God s Word). A holy, loving, merciful God could not have progressively created over millions of years anyway. The fossil record that, according to the majority of secular scientists, was supposedly laid down over millions of years, is a horrible record of death, disease (like cancer, brain tumors, etc.) and suffering. The God of the Bible, because of His very nature, could not create using (or permitting) such a horrible, wasteful process of death, struggle and suffering before sin came. And besides, His Word tells us He created everything very good in six literal days and according to all the data from the Bible, it occurred only thousands of years ago. So, as we proceed through 2004 with Operation: Refuting Compromise, let s get the message out: It s not a matter of what God could have done, but what He said He did. The Beagle has landed? To much fanfare, the European Space Agency s first mission to Mars the Beagle 2 landed on Christmas day (but then lost radio contact). Ten days later, the fi rst of two US rovers Spirit landed on the planet. Will these missions succeed? They re not just gathering data. The name Beagle 2 is a not-so-subtle reminder of the real goal. Just as Darwin s ship the Beagle provided data from the New World that he used to build his evolutionary theory, these modern voyages seek to bolster an anti-biblical view of origins. Specifically the Mars rovers are looking for evidence of water. But this would not bridge the gap between H 2 0 and DNA molecules. In fact, the Bible itself implies a watery origin of all things (Genesis 1:2, 6-10). It s a shame that our tax dollars are used to fund schools, museums and now an $820-million Mars Spirit project to indoctrinate Americans in false evolutionary beliefs. 9 Geologists in an uproar! Demand book s removal from Grand Canyon National Park 9 What provoked the presidents of seven geological societies representing around 100,000 geologists and paleontologists to write a letter of protest to the superintendent of Grand Canyon National Park? A picture book offering a different view on the origin of the Canyon. Tom Vail s new creationist coffeetable book Grand Canyon: A Different View (see details on p. 6) is being sold at the Park Service bookstore. The book-ban letter lashed out at the Park Service for supposedly undermining the scientific understanding of Grand Canyon geology by promoting the anti-science movement known as young Earth creationism., AiG president, declared that the effort to ban the book is remarkable. Although Tom s beautifully illustrated book is low key, it still has managed to shake up the evolutionary community and its view regarding the Grand Canyon and its supposed millions of years. I hope the controversy will lead to the book s increased popularity and therefore more people will read its alternative, creationist scientific viewpoint of the Canyon s formation. 12 DID YOU KNOW? Our perverse behavior is all just genetic? Valentine s Day product of evolution? Did you know what evolutionists are saying about romance and evolution? Imagine my surprise when I opened my daily paper on Valentine s Day to find a front-page article entitled, Your animal-flirting is not just human behavior. This piece, specially written for Valentine s Day, was telling readers that men chasing women is all part of our so-called animal instincts in the evolution of life. The article stated that it s best for the species, from an evolutionary perspective, if men actually have relationships with more than one woman. This helps spread the genes, they say, enabling the survival of the fittest. A popular TV program in America once featured a scientist justifying men being unfaithful to their wives on the basis of evolution! In fact, there have been many articles lately justifying drug use, homosexual behavior and murder and more on the basis of our animal ancestry; and that our perverse behavior is all just genetic! When people compromise on the Bible, they think they can do anything. They won t acknowledge there s such a thing as sin and absolute standards, and that man is in rebellion against God. So what s the truth about Valentine s Day? God created man from dust and a woman from his side, and they were one flesh. Thus, it s one man for one woman.
