3 Dear West Cobb Family, God is at work among us in extraordinary ways and we have so much to be thankful for. Our great God has called us to help people far from God find and follow His son Jesus. As we look to the future, no doubt, greater things are yet to come. As we make strategic plans for the next twelve months, we believe God wants to use our time, our talents and our treasure to grow His kingdom in new and exciting ways. My prayer is that God would be glorified as we feed the hungry, provide for the orphans, and love the least, the last and the lost. I pray that we will learn to love what God loves, so much so that we will never be the same. 7 PROVIDING RELIEF CHURCH AFFILIATIONS 2018 will be a year for discovering ways to provide relief to our community and beyond. First Responders Disaster Relief Orphan Care Anti-Sex Trafficking Refugees West Cobb partners with three organizations for the purpose of helping start new churches and reaching people far from God. On a local level, West Cobb cooperates with the Noonday Baptist Association, which is comprised of 125 churches, multi-site campuses and church starts in seven different counties in the Atlanta area. On a state level, West Cobb cooperates with the Georgia Baptist Mission Board, comprised of several thousand churches of all sizes scattered throughout the state. On a national level, West Cobb cooperates with the Southern Baptist Convention, comprised of over 45,000 churches. CHURCH PLANTING INITIATIVES West Cobb is shifting our missions efforts toward church planting in unreached parts of North America and the world. In 2018, we re prayerfully exploring partnerships (both new and continuing) with church planters in Las Vegas, Denver, Thailand, Haiti, Sierra Leone, and Belarus. 10 2018 GATHER FOR WORSHIP For many, our worship services and events are the front door to our church. 12 2018 DO LIFE TOGETHER Your faithfulness to give in 2018 will provide opportunity to make disciples and increase participation in groups for men and women at West Cobb. $307,045 Includes group curriculum and resources, along with costs for programming, staffing, facility use & other administrative costs to ensure we re able to encourage connecting in small groups. 13% of the Ministry Plan SMALL GROUPS SPIRITUAL GROWTH MEN AND WOMEN 156 in Women s Groups 358 Weekly in Adult Small Groups West Cobb is committed to spiritual growth. We believe that life-change best happens in groups, and that a believer s spiritual growth can be drastically stunted without the support that comes from such a community. 13 2018 INCREASE OUR MINISTRY CAPACITY Your faithfulness to give in 2018 will allow us to mobilize volunteers, build our cash reserves, steward our facilities and continue paying down our debt. $543,233 Includes facility maintenance and repairs, along with costs for programming, staffing, facility use & other administrative costs to ensure we re able to continue the mission of West Cobb. 23% of the Ministry Plan OVER 170 SERVING EVERY WEEK West Cobb is a church that serves! From parking lots to nurseries, our people continue to put others before themselves as they give of their time and skills. FACILITIES Maintaining and upgrading our facilities requires our constant attention and, unfortunately, takes resources. But it s an important undertaking to maximize our ministry capacity. CASH RESERVES Maintaining healthy cash reserves represents good stewardship and allows us to be prepared for the unexpected. Our operating reserve is currently 4 1/2 weeks (goal is 6 weeks). Our mortgage reserve is currently 4 months (goal is at least 3 months). REDUCING OUR DEBT We understand that sometimes debt is necessary, but we want to handle it wisely so that it doesn t handle us. At the beginning of 2017, West Cobb had debt totaling $3,471,536. By the end of 2018, our debt will be $3,116,495. We currently reduce our debt by approximately $180,000 a year through our regular monthly mortgage payments MINISTRY PLAN

17 How was the 2018 Ministry Plan put together? This Ministry Plan is a result of a collective team effort. Our staff developed and submitted budgets with the priorities established under Lead Pastor Stan Coleman s leadership. John Streetman led the budgetting process, which included input from our Executive Pastor, Lance Taylor & Financial Manager, Paige Long, along with discussion and approval by the Leadership, Finance and Personnel teams. What you have before you is the 2018 budget recommendation from our Leadership Team, which will be voted on on Sunday, December 17. Who oversees how the funds are spent? Executive Pastor Lance Taylor, Financial Manager Paige Long and Administrator John Streetman manage the day-to-day operations of the budget. Key church members on the Leadership, Finance and Personnel teams meet regularly for oversight, transparency and accountability, and to provide counsel and support to the staff. The effort requires lots of teamwork. What if our church gives more money or less money than the Ministry Plan requires? The Ministry Plan is a guide for us as a church. It s a prayerful agreement that God is leading us in a certain direction. As the year unfolds, He may provide more funds, or He may provide fewer funds. In either case, we will stay in close communication as a staff and with our key church members that help us administer our resources and will adjust as needed. Wise financial decisions are crucial to God s work at West Cobb. Does our church undergo a financial audit? Our church takes financial stewardship very seriously. Trust, accountability, accuracy, transparency, communication and maximization are principles we re committed to in handling money at West Cobb. An annual audit by an outside accounting firm is just one of the things we do to make sure we are doing things well. Our next audit is being scheduled for the first quarter of It s such a big church. Does my giving really matter? Every dollar matters and helps us make the most of our ministry year. You are a part of that! It s not about equal gifts, but equal sacrafice. 18 HOW MUCH SHOULD I GIVE? God has called us to live with sweeping generosity in light of the great needs in our city, in our nation, and around the world. Each of us should prayerfully consider how to respond. When someone has been given much, much will be required in return; and when someone has been entrusted with much, even more will be required. - Luke 12:48 In 2018, make it a goal to step out in faith and take the next step in your giving. Maybe that is for you, we believe that God wants to move each of our hearts to respond generously. MAKE GENEROSITY A PRIORITY #1 If giving/tithing is not part of your current budget, make it a priority to give to the church first. Some people use scheduled reminders on payday; others ONE PERCENT CHALLENGE END OF THE 1% YEAR GIFT If every family at West Cobb gave just 1% more, we would easily surpass our 2018 budget goal. A small change for your family can make a huge impact in the life of our church. CONSIDER ASSETS END OF THE YEAR GIFT Consider donating land, a house, a car, jewelry, stocks, etc. Perhaps you could have a yard sale and donate the profits. Get started at westcobb.com/give.
