4 A Note from pastor dwayne Our mission at PORTICO is to Help People Find Their Way Back to God! What a privilege it is to partner with God and what He is doing in our community, region, country and around the world to fulfill this mission. In the same way, it s an honour to come alongside other like-minded people who feel called to do the same. In the pages of this booklet, you will be introduced to the many global workers and ministries that PORTICO supports through our GLOBAL MISSIONS. Together we can do more, reach more, and accomplish more for the Kingdom of God! Ephesians 3:20 says, God can do anything, you know far more than we could ever imagine or guess or request in our wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us. (MSG) I love this portion of scripture! God is telling us that He can do more than our wildest dreams! He can go far beyond what we can IMAGINE! Over the years PORTICO has always been generous in giving, sending, and going, to help people find their way back to God. BUT, what if together we trusted in God to work deeply within us to look at a future without limits? What if together we begin to IMAGINE this possibility, to take up a God size dream or vision? Imagine what we can do together for the cause of Missions! Imagine the impact you can make on an STM (Short Term Missions) trip? Or the impact an STM could have on you? Can you just IMAGINE? So, as we allow the Holy Spirit to work deeply and gently within us and take off the limits of our imaginations, let s pray for the workers and ministries in these pages. Each of them, in their unique way, brings the message of Christ to the nations and they help people find their way back to God in the process. We invite you to PRAY and then GIVE. If you already support PORTICO Global Missions with giving over and above your tithe, thank you! Could we be so bold as to ask you to imagine what God could do if you increased your giving this year? 5 PORTICO Missions INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS ilya & janet bantseev Siberia Ilya and Janet Bantseev moved to Novokuznetsk, Russia, in 1993 to the city where Ilya was born and raised in an underground Pentecostal Church during the Soviet regime. In spite of great opposition, they are now pastoring a church of over This congregation is reaching out to orphans, prisoners, drug addicts, as well as doctors, teachers, athletes, etc. Their vision is to reach every level of society with the gospel. They have established 15 other churches and have a vision to plant 200 new churches by They also started a Teen Challenge ministry that is reaching hundreds of men and women who are addicted to drugs and alcohol. sergio & nancy bersaglio Zambia International MISSIONS Sergio and Nancy are the Directors of Villages of Hope - Africa (VOH-A) currently providing care to orphaned and vulnerable children in eight African locations: Burundi, Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia (Chongwe, Kitwe, Mongu) and Zimbabwe. VOH brings Hope for Today, Tomorrow and Eternity by providing education, health care, feeding programs and when necessary housing. Working very closely with national leadership, the Bersaglio s work to develop strong Christian leaders at each VOH location to ensure that the ministry is sustainable and well managed and that all children are loved and cared for and exposed to the gospel message. 3

6 PORTICO Global Missions INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS DAVID & CONNIE BUZIKIEVICH Tanzania the david foudation Pakistan Pamoja Ministries is all about Christian discipleship and growth, and how it is done with modern media that is relevant today. It meets people where they are at, with media that is relevant to where they are. Whether it is the plain, powerful Gospel, pastoral support materials, financial literacy programs, or media productions to share the gospel, we strive to make the materials available to language groups (translations) throughout all of Africa. murray & cindy cornelius International PAOC IM NOW (International Missions New Opportunity and Global Workers Fund) is the Where Most Needed Fund allocation for International Missions. There are always special projects and needs that arise around the world that require funding that is outside the scope of the funds committed to Global Workers and their ongoing support. IMNOW enables International Missions to respond in a timely fashion to emergencies and unique open doors as God leads. Each Christmas, PORTICO helps to provide a community Christmas banquet for people in Pakistan who are being reached through the ministry of evangelist Whaqar David (Ronaq Massey s brother). ERDO (emergency relief & development overseas) International ERDO is the humanitarian agency of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada (PAOC), which focuses on four main areas of work: child sponsorship, crisis response, food assistance and community development. PORTICO has and will continue to respond to crises around the world. We also have many families who sponsor children through ChildCARE Plus and we encourage others to do so as well. 4 5

7 PORTICO Global Missions INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS jeff & sharon futers First Century Foundations hope connexions Trinidad First Century Foundations has been turning hearts around the world towards the land, people and God of Israel since We seek to educate and enlighten the Church about the Hebraic roots of their Christian faith and the Scriptural mandate to pray for the peace of Jerusalem and to bless Israel. In addition, it is our goal to engage the Church in the mission of over 70 ministries we partner with in The Land and to help believers experience the land of their spiritual heritage. wayne & ann hilsden Israel Wayne is the president of King of Kings Ministries in Jerusalem, and recently established a ministry called FIRM, the Fellowship of Israel Related Ministries. FIRM is a global initiative to help educate, inspire, and connect people to ministries that are making a difference in Israel and among the Jewish people around the world. Established in 2002 by June and Kris Taklalsingh, who are a part of our PORTICO family, Hope Connexions is a ministry that develops a pathway for spiritual growth in Trinidad. HC focuses on evangelism through the Alpha program and discipleship through Community Bible Study International. noel & marnie hutchinson Southeast Asia The Hutchinson s have lived in Hong Kong, Thailand and Cambodia. Noel leads Asian Outreach in North America, building partnerships, developing resources and sharing the needs and vision with churches and donors. Spending greater blocks of time in Southeast Asia will give the Hutchinsons more time to work directly with both PAOC and Asian Outreach teams and projects. 6 7

8 PORTICO Global Missions INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS kirk & shelley kauffeldt International the k family Restricted Access Nations In 2015 Kirk became the new director of PAOC s Global Education. GlobalEd assists international churches in equipping leaders in over 30 countries through 35 partner institutions and numerous extension programs. GlobalEd places a special focus on untrained, but actively functioning pastors. The country we are in is 99.6% Muslim, 27 out of 31 people groups are unreached and do not have a representation of Christ. As we work towards planting churches via indigenous believers, more and more individuals get the opportunity to be introduced to Jesus Christ. the k family Restricted Access Nations paul & lynn kohls Kenya This family served for several years in a restricted country and has now moved to Southeast Asia where they will serve as the Regional Director for all of PAOC s Restricted Access global workers and ministries. Paul Kohls is the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academics at Pan Africa Christian University in Nairobi. He is developing graduate programs to help grow the university, whose vision is to train Godly leaders at all levels of influence in both the church and the marketplace. Their desire is to bring Christ and hope to the continent of Africa. Lynn is currently the Member Care coordinator for all of our global workers in Africa, as well as an Associate Minister at Nairobi Pentecostal Church in Parklands. 8 9

9 PORTICO Global Missions INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS mukti volunteer village red shawl Mukti means freedom. Mukti is working here in Mississauga through a Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) in the GTA and also helping newcomers to Canada by providing education classes, employment aid, counseling, and workshops as well as a dynamic High School volunteer program. In addition, they offer free education to disadvantaged children living in the red light districts in India. Red Shawl s vision is to build strong and vibrant communities by engaging, inspiring and transforming the lives of women. Their goal is to create opportunities for underprivileged women by instilling self-confidence and awareness of their capabilities. They are working in this way with women both here at home and in Pakistan. stewart & monique Shaw India Stewart and Monique have worked faithfully in Kolkata, India for many years. Here is what they say about their work there. God says, My ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts (Isaiah 55:8). We never imagined that we would be living on the field for the past nine years and doing the work that we are doing. It is truly a joy to serve the Lord here as we reach out to the street children, addict children at the train station, and minister to the sex workers in the red-light area. jeffery & akiko sonnenberg Japan Jeffery and Akiko are Church Planting global workers in Japan. They live in Toda City, which is on the north edge of Tokyo. Jeff is a part of the Japanese Field Leadership Team for Asian Access and also serves on the staff of JCGI Networks (which is a network that provides Leadership Development for pastors and also focuses on Church Multiplication)

10 PORTICO Global Missions INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS the s family Restricted Access Nations s. wright Restricted Access Nations The S Family works in an area of North Africa where persecution of the church is a reality. They are involved in the training of young leaders and pastors through a Bible College in their region. They are also doing some very creative ministry through a business as mission model that provides helpful products for society as well as job creation and potentially, income for ongoing ministry. S. is working in the Middle East where he focuses on students at the university. He engages in language and cultural studies so that the truth of Jesus can be communicated wisely and effectively. john & audrey van belle El Salvador John and Audrey are working with King s Castle Ministries. John oversees the construction projects, along with construction teams. Audrey works in the pharmacy at the onsite Medical Clinic and organizes the medical teams that come to work in the rural areas. As they continue to do hands-on ministry, they are reaching the local community with the love of Jesus Christ

11 PORTICO Global Missions NATIONAL MISSIONS maury blair Breakthrough Ministries Maury Blair, himself a survivor of horrible child abuse, has dedicated his life to sharing his story of how he overcame his tragic past to become an inspiration to other victims around the world. He continues to do this through his book, Child of Woe, a movie of his story, a weekday radio program, and through the Internet, as well as speaking at churches, schools, youth groups, prisons and more. matt janes The STM Network National The STM Network is the PAOC s ministry for short-term mission engagement. Their mission is to coach, mobilize, and nurture global volunteers to be awesome! Our donations to their work help 2 things happen: mission volunteers get valuable training and mentoring, and STM team leaders receive incredible resources and support. Matt Janes from STM Network has been and continues to be instrumental in helping train our Short Term Missions teams and has also assisted mid-term missionaries from PORTICO to get on the field! 12 PORTICO Global Missions NATIONAL MISSIONS bera & bonita ledua Ontario Northwind Family Ministries paoc 2020 initiative Bera and Bonita have been through a challenging time of transition but remain as passionate as ever to reach the First Nations community in northern Ontario. Currently their focus is ministry to First Nations children through a number of play days and they are looking for a suitable location to host camps or to run programs on the First Nations reserves where they have connections. masters college & seminary MCS is the PAOC s training institution in Eastern Canada for pastors and Christian leaders. They exist to create a learning community that provides programs and services which equip Pentecostal leaders for ministry. Next Gen Campus Coordinator, Mission Canada Robb is the Next Gen Campus Coordinator for Mission Canada. Campus Mission Canada acts as a catalyst to advance God s Kingdom by bringing together the right people and resources to bring about the right result. Their role varies with the opportunity. They initiate. They support. They empower. They network. They resource. They coach. They help cultivate transformational communities. They do whatever the situation and the leading of the Spirit calls for. And it is bearing fruit. A lot of it

13 PORTICO Global Missions NATIONAL MISSIONS david & shirley sawler Glace Bay, Nova Scotia (Lighthouse Community Church) David and Shirley Sawler have planted a church that is reaching their community and impacting nearby communities as well. The Lighthouse Youth Centre operated out of their church serves between 200 and 250 youth a week. The Sawlers have also planted churches in the nearby communities of New Waterford and Sydney and are excited about new opportunities that are coming their way! 18 19

14 PORTICO Global Missions LOCAL MISSIONS david burke Ryerson University David Burke is a Mission Canada Campus worker to Ryerson University, situated in the core of downtown Toronto. Ryerson is home to over 38,000+ students, the majority of whom do not know Christ as their Saviour. David and his wife launched a ministry called LifeLine on campus to help fill a spiritual need. LifeLine exists to be a vibrant faith community that is actively introducing people to Jesus Christ, and discipling and mentoring those who do know Him. jim craig The Lifestream Initiative Local Jim Craig, a long-time member of PORTICO, connects the churches of Mississauga with each other and with the needs of our city. Current areas of city engagement include creating local monthly gatherings of ministry leaders, supporting a challenged neighbourhood, facilitating assistance for lonely mental patients as well as developing local supported housing for them, enabling churches to serve as shelters in emergencies. 15 PORTICO Global Missions LOCAL MISSIONS the dam mylife centre The Dam is a safe community for youth and young moms in Mississauga, offering love, respect and dignity for all. Since 1995, they have been a relational presence in the lives of youth. Through the relationships they form, they develop, assist and mentor youth and young moms along the journey towards reaching their full potential. trevor & rebecca gingerich Ontario (The Humber) With excitement, Trevor and Rebecca Gingerich planted The Embassy at Humber, presently the only Christian ministry on this Campus. The Embassy exists to help students discover hope, purpose and life to its fullest through the message, mission and living person of Jesus Christ. It s a place where students can gather to worship weekly and be exposed to biblical teaching that s applicable to their surroundings and pertinent to their unique stage in life. MLC s mission and mandate is to encourage and empower young women to make positive life changes. They provide programs and support services to women 25-years-old and younger to facilitate personal growth and development, to achieve accountability for their lives and actions, and to create a sense of hope for their future. Their goal is to see young women grow and make positive life changes. MLC seeks to help young women believe that they can change negatives into positives in their lives and overcome any setbacks that they face. It s their goal to see young women create and achieve positive goals for their future and fulfill their full potential in life
