2 THE MESSAGE Could It Happen? Pastor Debbie Marion INVITATION TO THE LORD S TABLE UMH, page 12 PRAYER OF CONFESSION Redeemer God, you came as one of us to free us from our sin. You promised that we would be filled; that all our needs would be met, if only we would have faith. But we are so often a faithless people. You made us one people of many tongues, but we use our differences to divide us. You have poured out many gifts for all, but we do not trust their variety. Forgive us our selfish and destructive ways and renew the face of the earth. As you poured out your Spirit in the creation and again on Pentecost, so fill us once more with that same Spirit that we might receive and use your power to build up your Church on earth and to recover the unity which we have lost, that all may proclaim one Lord. We pray in Jesus name. Amen. Transgender Speaker Receives Warm Welcome On behalf of the Church and Society Committee I want to thank those who turned out to hear the program presented on Tuesday, May 23, by Tracey Swinarsky. Tracey was an engaging speaker who spoke openly about her life as a transgender and thus provided the audience with a better understanding of the transgender population in general. After her presentation Tracey said everyone made me feel so welcome. It was my pleasure to tell my story to such a warm group of people. WELCOME, VISITORS! We are delighted to have you worship with us today. We invite you to participate as fully in our worship service as you feel comfortable. Bethany Church offers a full range of study and fellowship opportunities for children, youth, young adults, and older adults. Sunday school, in session from 9:45-10:45 a.m. each Sunday morning, features several different classes for adults, one class for youth, three classes for children, and a nursery. We invite you to come back to Bethany and get to know us better! 4 PLAY BALL!!! ALTAR FLOWERS The flowers on the altar are given to the glory of God in memory of Pat Kearney on his birthday today and in honor of his finest achievements, children Laura Glaze and Will Kearney. CHRISTIAN LOVE AND SYMPATHY are extended to Wendy Harrison, sister of Mike Harrison, in the sudden loss of her fiancé Craig on May 26. Please remember Wendy in your prayers. HUGS MINISTRY Thank you so much for the prayer shawl! It is beautiful and ever so thoughtful. It matches my furniture perfectly, so I drape it on the loveseat and then wrap it around me when I take Aidan to the bus. It also reminds me to start the day counting my blessings. Thank you. Kristen Collier Big, huge "Heart-y" thanks to all that volunteered their time and donated to the EOW Red Cross Blood Drive honoring State Trooper Chad Dermyer. Thirty-five (35) pints of blood were collected. What a success! So much so that Michelle would now like to host another blood drive this fall with later hours to attract the working folks. Special thanks to Creekside Catering, Juan's Mexican Cafe & Cantina and Chick-fil-A for their generous donations! And extra kudos to Dee Dee for her great advertising and those who shared the event on Facebook. We were honored to be a part of such a special day. It s time for the District UMM s Night at the Ballgame, Monday, June 19, Tickets are only $1.00! We have been taking a van load the past few years and everyone has a great time! If you are interested in joining us for an evening of fun and excitement, please contact: Alan Harvey ( ) or Milton Hudgins ( ) or David Chapin ( ) for tickets. Van will depart the Bethany parking lot at 5:30 p.m. Most Gratefully, Kris and Dawn NURSERY NEWS With summer coming soon, families will be traveling. If you know our nursery will be blessed with visiting children, please call me at so I can arrange for extra help in the nursery. I will be away July 2 and the nursery will need volunteers for that Sunday, as well as Sundays to come! Also, I have surgery scheduled for July 24 and I will be out at least 6 weeks. I will post sign-up sheets outside the nursery door for those Sundays. Please stop by and volunteer as you are able. With our services now piped into the nursery you will be able to worship and experience the blessing of serving Bethany s little ones! Thank you, Jeannie Meisner, Nursery Attendant
