This Sunday we read the first sending of the Apostles to preach, teach, and heal. For many of us, it can be easy to think we "just don't have enough" to be disciples and evangelists ourselves. We don't have enough education and training. We don't have enough experience talking to people about Jesus. We don't pray enough. We don't have enough faith. If you look at the Apostles in today's Gospel reading, they didn't have much either. "No food, no sack, no money in their belts." They didn't plan out their itinerary or book their lodging in advance. From what we know of the Apostles, they were not the religiously trained and educated ones. They were fisherman, tax collectors, and political activists. But what does being a fisherman require? Someone like Peter needed a strong work ethic to rise at strange hours. He needed patient calm to wait for the catch. Once ashore, he needed a savvy mind to fetch a good price for his labors. As Peter became a fisher of men, he would need diligence to persevere through the hard journeys, long days, and persecution that awaited him. He would need patient calm with those who disagreed with him. As the leader of the Apostles, he would need a savvy mind to navigate challenges facing the early Church. From one perspective, Peter has nothing to offer the mission of Jesus. Thinking more creatively, one can see that joined with faith and love perhaps Peter had everything he needed. Jesus sends you as well. As you take stock of your own talents, consider how they might be offered as a gift to others. Maybe you already have more than enough. 3 All Men of the Parish Invitation from Fr. Marc I will be leading a pilgrimage to St. Joseph Oratory in Montreal ontuesday, August 21st. We will leave right at6amand return that evening. It is "doable" as I have been taking the trip for a number of years and making it work. The day will consist of "praying the stairs," Mass, Stations of the Cross, paying homage to St. Joseph and his various titles, visiting the Oratory and getting a sense of the history behind Brother Andre's lasting memorial. Note Mass Time Changes at St. Michael Please note that there will be no 8AM mass at St. Michael on Friday July 27th. Instead, mass will be celebrated at 6pm on those days. Beginning Sunday, August 5th, the 7:30AM mass will be moved to 7:00AM. The sanctuary candle is lit this week for wellness for Noah and Family. Back to School Program Yes, it s July and the kids just got out of School a few weeks ago, so why are we promoting for school items already? In order to have everything ready for the backpacks to go out on August 11 th this year and with families that are going on summer vacations, we needed to start a little over a month beforehand to request for donations. The School House is up in the back of the Church ready for anyone to select any item to help with families in the SAU16 District who are in need. All items are color coded for your convenience. Please note that all items, except Gift Cards, are to go to the Stage Area in Cotter Hall regardless what the tag might state. All donated items must be in by First Sunday of August, which is August 5 th this year. We start sorting and filling in items that are missing that following Monday. Gift Cards can be dropped off at Gabriel House Monday thru Thursday 9:00 am 4:00pm or dropped in the Collection Basket at Mass. More information is provided on the Informational Sheet available by the School House. At this time, we have 54 families with 128 children who would greatly appreciate any help.
