WELOME AND WORSHIP Welcome to choir! We re going to start with a game. I love games! hristmas Present Relay (Before choir, wrap two or more presents, based on the number of teams you expect to have for the relay. The presents should be large enough for kids to balance on their heads. Add some weight to the boxes before wrapping, All boxes should be equal in size/weight, and wrapped in paper that a has nonslip texture.) Balancing things on top of your head requires good posture. To sing corrrectly, we must also use good posture. Let s play a game that requires good posture. (Divide your group into two teams [more if needed]. Give each team a present. On his/her turn, each team member walks from start line to the finish line, while balancing the present on top of his/her head. At the finish line, the team member takes the present off his/her head and runs back to tag the next teammate. The first team to finish, is the winner. If you want to make the game harder, tell kids they can t touch the gift once they start. Also, decide whether those who drop the gift must start over, or simply put it back on their head and continue.) When we sing Alleluia, Amen, you should stand up tall, with perfect posture, and sing. Let s try the horus together now: So I praise You, Lord. And I worship You forever. And I thank You, Lord. Alleluia, Amen. Great! Even when we are doing choreography, you can stand up straight and tall. Do every motion, using your great posture! Play demo of Alleluia, Amen. Show lyrics on the screen, or provide lyric sheets. (Lead the choreography as they sing.) MAKE SOME NOISE Younger hoir Semester 1, Week 11 Page 2

MESSAGE Show the words of Psalm 106:48 on an overhead screen, chalkboard, white board, or poster board. Look at our memory verse: May Yahweh, the God of Israel, be praised from everlasting to everlasting. Let all the people say, Amen! Halleluah! (Psalm 106:48, HSB). Scripture opyright 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2009 by Holman Bible Publishers. Used by permission. Holman hristian Standard Bible and HSB are federally registered trademarks of Holman Bible Publishers. We are thanking/praising God for how long orever! Everlasting to everlasting is a fancy way of saying always lasting. The word everlasting is used in Scripture to describe God: Even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God (Psalm 90:2, KJV). It also describes His love: But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting (Psalm 103:17, RSV). Scripture quotation taken from the Revised Standard Version of the Bible, copyrighted 1946, 1952, 1971, God also describes His faithfulness, His promises, His Word, His priests (preachers), and His kingdom as everlasting. Because everything about God lasts forever, we can praise and thank Him forever. If we believe in Jesus as our Savior, we can live forever with Him in heaven. In our song, the word Alleluia is ust another way to say Halleluah, which simply means Praise God. Amen means, Yes, I agree or You have my approval. So when we sing Alleluia, Amen, we are saying, Praise God, YES! (Pump your fist up in the air, and shout YES! ) MAKE SOME NOISE Younger hoir Semester 1, Week 11 Page 3

Let s sing the horus again. (Keep it simple a cappella or with piano/guitar accompaniment.) So I praise You, Lord. And I worship You forever. And I thank You, Lord. Alleluia, Amen. PRAY: Lord, thank You that You and Your love last forever. Your kingdom lasts forever, God. When we trust in Jesus as our Savior, we can last forever, too. Lord, we sing Alleluia, Amen, praising You always. Thank You for coming to earth, dying for us, and for coming back to get us one day, so we can reign with You forever! Amen. MAKE SOME NOISE Younger hoir Semester 1, Week 11 Page 4

MUSI elebrate the Birthday Think about what heaven will be like one big celebration of Jesus, a birthday party that lasts forever! Let s review some things in elebrate the Birthday to prepare for our program. (Rehearse the horus, a cappella. They should know every word and be able to enunciate crisply. Listen to the Bridge. This section should be sung smoothly and connected. Because the tempo is so quick, teach the kids to take deep, fast breaths in between phrases.) When we add motions, you still need to sing it ust like that. Play demo of elebrate the Birthday. Lead the choreography. Alleluia, Amen Today/tonight, we will add the verses to Alleluia, Amen. They will be sung by soloists, but I also want you to know the words, because they are very powerful. They tell the story of Jesus, from His birth to the cross and His coming again. Let s work on them now. (Sing through the Verses with the kids, a cappella, or with piano/guitar accompaniment.) Now, let s sing the whole song. When you listen to the soloists sing the story of Jesus, sing along in your heart. Play demo of Alleluia, Amen. Lead the choreography. MAKE SOME NOISE Younger hoir Semester 1, Week 11 Page 5

Happy Birthday, Jesus What does the choir director do If the choir knows a song, why do they need a director Another word for choir director is conductor. The conductor helps the singers remember what they learned. The conductor often mouths the words. He/she makes big motions when the choir should sing loud and small motions when they should sing softly. He/she helps keep the choir singing at the right speed or tempo. The conductor shows the choir whether to sing smooth or choppy. He/she brings everyone in, and cuts them off at the right time. A conductor is very important! onducting Game Sing the Happy Birthday song as you follow my conducting. (Be very dramatic. Stop the singing in unpredictable places. Have kids sing loud in some places and softly in others. Lead them to sing smooth as well as choppy. Be silly and have fun, but make them watch you!) When we sing for worship/our program, you MUST watch me. This song is simple, but it also includes some tricky parts, so you must pay close attention as I conduct. Stand up, and we will sing the entire song. We will be using the accompaniment track, not the demo, so watch me carefully. (This song requires working with the track because kids tend to rush through the Happy Birthday to You section. It has some tempo changes with big ritards. amiliarize yourself with the track and how you will conduct these areas. Use this rehearsal to practice conducting and getting the kids to follow you.) Play the stereo instrumental track of Happy Birthday, Jesus, and conduct the kids. MOVEMENT See horeography Movements. Watch Video for Happy Birthday, Jesus, and teach the choreography. MAKE SOME NOISE Younger hoir Semester 1, Week 11 Page 6

Jesus Loves Me Remain standing, and let s sing Jesus Loves Me. We will sing it in our hristmas program, so we need to review. (If you are presenting the hristmas music in a oint presentation with the Older hoir s WS material, this song will not be in that program. If you have time, you can sing it for fun.) Play demo or stereo track of Jesus Loves Me. Lead the choreography. MAKE SOME NOISE Younger hoir Semester 1, Week 11 Page 7

(me of Kid 4) and I had an idea. Kid 1: (sarcastically) Great. I don t know, (me of Kid 3). You two are always full of ideas. Kid 2: And they re not always good. Kid 4: But this idea is awesome! We thought that while you two tell the story, we could act it out! Kid 1: Actually, that s not bad. People seem to like hristmas pageants. Kid 2: Yeah! I mean, every choir program needs some pizazz. Kid 3: We knew you d love it, so we came prepared. (Kids 3 and 4 put headdresses on. Kid 3 has a halo; Kid 4 has a shepherd headdress.) Kid 4: Places everyone! (Kids 1 and 2 look at each other, shrug their shoulders, cross to stage right, and put their binders on music stands. Kid 3 hides offstage left. Kid 4 stands center stage, acting as though he/she is watching a flock of sheep.) Kid 4: Aaannnd ATION! Kid 2: (reading) Our story begins one evening in a field outside a town called Bethlehem. Some shepherds were watching their flocks, when suddenly an angel appeared. (Kid 3 enters and flies toward Kid 4. They are smiling at each other.) Kid 2: The shepherds were terrified! (Kid 4 quickly shifts gears and turns his/her smile into a look of terror, and screams.) Kid 1: (shakes head at their overacting, then reads) But the angel said to them, Do not be afraid. (Kid 3 pats Kid 4 on the head as though to comfort.) I bring you good news of great oy. It is for all the people. Today in the town of David, a Savior has been born to you. He is hrist the Lord (Luke 2:1011, NRSV). Scripture taken from the Holy Bible, New Intertiol Reader s Version. opyright 1973, 1978, 1984 by Biblica, Inc. All rights reserved worldwide. 18 (Kids 3 and 4 run off stage left. Kid 3 switches halo for shepherd headdress. Kid 4 keeps same headdress.) Kid 2: After the angels left, the shepherds went to visit the baby Jesus. (Kids 3 and 4 enter from stage left carrying a manger, and set it center stage. The soloist for Alleluia, Amen steps out to stand behind it. Kids 3 and 4 step back.) Kid 1: Just like the angel told them, Jesus and His parents, Mary and Joseph, were in a stable in Bethlehem. Baby Jesus was wrapped in strips of cloth and lying in a manger. Kid 2: Surrounded by animals and everyday people, God made sure it would be clear that Jesus was here for ALL of us. (Start the Alleluia, Amen track.) He gave up everything to come to us that hristmas night! ALLELUIA, AMEN (Soloists exit.) Solos on mics: Verse 1 Speakers on mics: Verse 2 Verse 3 #1 #2 #3 #4 Kid 1: Being the first people to visit the Son of God must have been a big honor. Kid 2: They were more than the first visitors; they were the first worshipers! After that, the shepherds couldn t wait to share the good news. Kid 1: (to Kid 2) They must have caused a big scene that day, running through the streets, shouting and telling everyone they met that the Savior had been born.
