Tom will be buried in Jacksonville, Florida. A Memorial Service will be held here at Chatfield UMC TODAY at 2:00 pm. A luncheon will follow the service. Our prayers of peace and comfort surround his spouse Gary, and Tom s brothers and sistersin-law, nieces and nephews. August Ushers are Andrew Bernard, Tom & Drew Ferrier, and Rod & Pam Nelson. August Coffee Fellowship will be hosted by the Worship Committee. Members are: Sandy Bratcher, Sheila Erickson, Kathy Kamnetz, Bobbie Kehret, Kathy Lange, and Steve Strickler. 3 My notes and thoughts about worship PRAYERS OF THE CHURCH/SHARING OF JOYS AND CONCERNS At this time, anyone who has a joy or concern for prayer is invited to lift it up before the congregation and God. After each petition the Leader will say: O Lord in your Love, The congregation will respond: Hear our prayer. If you would like your prayers spoken by the leader, please give them to Pastor Debra, in writing, before the service. HEBREW SCRIPTURES Genesis 32:22-31 GOSPEL LESSON Matthew 14:13-21 SERMON How do we help people find God s reconciling grace and love? INVITATION TO THE LORD S TABLE In the United Methodist Church we celebrate and observe an open table. All are welcome, just as Jesus welcomed all to eat with him. Saint and sinner, male or female, skeptic or wise, slave or free no one was turned away at the meal. It is only required that we come with open hearts to this table, realizing that God might do something miraculous in our lives and the life of this community as we remember, honor and marvel at this gift we are given through the limitless grace of God, the self-giving love of the Christ, and the life giving power of the Holy Spirit. SERVICE OF THE TABLE THANKSGIVING OVER THE MEAL God of Abraham, Sarah, and Hagar, Rebekah and Isaac, Jacob and Esau, Leah and Rachel, there is no pain that does not echo in your heart, and so we pray:

4 for all the grief and for all the losses, for the tears shed and the cries unheard, for all the half goodbyes, relationships without resolve, and for all the things that we have left unsaid, we pray. Broken, tired and hungry, we come to you seeking healing, strength, and nourishment knowing that you will make us whole. So we, a diverse group of people, gather around to break and share this bread together as a way of remembering the one whom we follow. The one who was fully who God created him to be; the one who loved God with all his heart, with all his mind, and with all his understanding. The one who taught us about love; the one who taught us to pray; the one who wrestled and struggled, as we often do; the one who has freed us from the vices of this world. We look at the cross and remember the one who died a cruel death because of beliefs, because of love, because of faith. We take the bread and remember the one who loved us all and taught us to live peacefully together as one community, the one who reminds us that we are never alone, the one who is the Christ. May the memory of the Christ in this meal, and in each other, sustain us for the struggles we face now, and in the journey ahead.
